Over 50 and still in Perimenopause?

Junebuddy · 03/06/2025 20:18

I am 54 years old and still menstruating every month. Should this be a concern?
Are there any ladies here who are still having periods over the age of 50?
Thanks for reading.

Yep, me. I'm 53. Not totally regular, but almost. I don't think it's that unusual tbh.

SummertimeFeelingFine · 03/06/2025 20:23

It's not unusual.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 03/06/2025 20:28

I was still having periods at 55. They only stopped because I had a mirena coil fitted. Hopefully they will really have stopped by the time it gets taken out!

51 is the average age, which means there's a broad range either side of that.

EggandStress · 03/06/2025 20:29

I’m 56 and I’ve now gone 12 months without a period. Up until a year ago I was still having them - not every month in the end but for most of my 50s they were regular.

Seeline · 03/06/2025 20:36

I had my last one at 55, but they were very irregular by then with months in between.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 03/06/2025 20:39

I’m 51 and still going strong. Turns out my sister and my mom didn’t stop until they were 60. I guess someone has to be at the far end of the curve …

EmeraldJeanie · 03/06/2025 20:47

I started hrt at 55. I was still having periods. I assume I wouldn't now at 59 but have regular bleed due to sequential hrt.

kkneat · 03/06/2025 20:56

I’m 54 still every 4 weeks, not got any signs at all of any changes

BruFord · 03/06/2025 20:58

Yes, I’m 51 this year and still having monthly periods.

mrsfollowill · 03/06/2025 21:01

I'm 54 and until last year I was 2 weeks on 2 weeks off for about 5 yrs. I've come out the other end and have not had a period since last August so coming up a year. Other symptoms like anxiety/brain fog have gone and I sleep well again with no hot flushes. I have my fingers crossed this it and I'm done!

hyggetyggedotorg · 03/06/2025 21:04

Yeah, slightly younger but over 50 & still as regular as clockwork.

Mum & older sister both had hysterectomies before 50 so I have no rough guide to go on.

Topseyt123 · 03/06/2025 21:08

I'd just turned 57 when I had my last period. It was about 2 years ago now as I am 59 in August.

MaryTheTurtle · 03/06/2025 21:49

52 here and day 80 since last period, longest I’ve been without is 102 days. I sincerely hope I’m done with them but I cried early when I had 2021 holiday memories come up in my phone - 4 years on and my youngest is final year GCSEs. Feelingvery nostalgic and my bra hurt today so I’m expecting Aunt Flo to pop and say hello Deary

madamegazelle1 · 03/06/2025 21:53

53 and monthly period still

ASkarsMissus · 03/06/2025 21:56

I’m 54 and still having periods. I started sequential HRT age 51 and now on continuous HRT but still bleeding albeit lightly every couple of weeks. I keep hoping it will all stop, even considering stopping HRT to see if that works. So sick of periods!

DorisTheFinkasaurus · 03/06/2025 22:00

53 here and my periods run like clockwork. It’s a bit tedious now. I have the same one- sided conversation with my period every time: “The factory shut ages ago, we don’t make babies here anymore, this town’s coming like a ghost town, bands don’t play no more, and yet you’re still clocking in every month like you own the place?” Both my period and I have lost our sense of direction!

Junebuddy · 04/06/2025 20:57

I appreciate all your answers, ladies.
According to some websites, menopause typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, but late menopause is rarely mentioned.

I was 58. I reckon I was in peri for at least 18 years!

Watto1 · 04/06/2025 21:01

I think so! But I haven’t had a period in 9 weeks so I may have had my last one without knowing yet 🤞. I’m 52 and my periods have been erratic for about 2 years.

Mightyhike · 04/06/2025 21:02

I'm 51 and still having regular periods. My mum was 54 when hers stopped.

Cynic17 · 04/06/2025 21:03

I have no idea what the flip "perimenopause" is supposed to.mean, but I had regular periods from the age of 48 right up.to 56.

I had gaps of 9 MONTHS three times before finally stopping....

dynamiccactus · 05/06/2025 17:04

Not unusual, mine were regular until I was about 51 and a half, and then I started getting them every 3 months. I am 53 and my last one was in about January so might be at the end now though I see the message above about 9 month gaps so who knows?

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 05/06/2025 19:21

I didn’t get to menopause until I was 56, so it’s not unusual. Unless I’m unusual. Which wouldn’t surprise me 😜

RainBow725 · 05/06/2025 19:25

55 and still going. Had enough now. More than ready for the pause in menopause…
