I found my libido!!!!!

BerryMummypudding · 30/01/2025 15:09

I've been off my pill for 6 months. Periods are regular and manageable and this last fortnight I've found my libido - BOOSH!!!

Husband is delighted and so am I.

Except I had to get the morning after pill on Monday and I was totally mortified.

I'm afraid if I go back on the pill I'm going to loose my libido again.

I'm looking for advice, what can I use that isn't the pill? I'm 50 and husband is 58. (Condoms don't really work for us)

Thanks.

I think mine is at the bottom of the laundry basket...

This made me properly guffaw 😁

Gatekeeper · 30/01/2025 19:45

My friend's sister fell pregnant naturally with her one and only child and she was 50. Just saying...

Too soon to drop contraception, I think a vasectomy for your DH also not needed at this stage

I have a caya diaphragm (£40 from Amazon, much more comfortable than an NHS diaphragm) - I find this a very good method

Sorry to ask, but does it come with idiot proof instructions?

WinterSun20 · 30/01/2025 20:03

Get the copper coil. It's got no hormones in it.

margegunderson · 30/01/2025 20:19

Hate to break it to you but the sudden libido thing is often peri hormones going mad and not lasting long. Fun while it does! Testosterone can help later

LostittoBostik · 30/01/2025 20:24

Get hubby to have a vasectomy

Really? Do ye think it's ok to wing it?

I spoke to GP on Monday morning after a Sunday morning of pure fab!!! (Sorry can't quite believe it) she told me to take the morning after pill.

Do ye think she's just being cautious- I took it! But how liberating to shag away with no need for worry!

No. Unless you're very comfortable with abortion.

And if you're anything like me, the (however minor) risk will see your libido vanish as quickly as it was found.

Vasectomy, condoms or coil.

That’s great news OP! Now, put it on a string through your coat sleeves so you don’t lose it again 😆

Yes, the caya diaphragm is idiot proof, easier than a tampon to put in. Comes with a leaflet which is v clear

it is shaped so there is a clear right way/wrong way (this is something I found tricky with the nhs ‘flying saucer’ type diaphragms), I found it easy from the first go

You have to leave it in for at least 6 hours after DTD, preferably a bit longer

You use them with a spermicide gel, I like their brand of green gel, which is also available on Amazon (£10) and lasts a couple of months if you are using it say a couple of times a week.

Literally get him to have a vasectomy? I’m so done with men wtf

mistymorning12 · 30/01/2025 21:05

At 50 I wouldn’t bother. It’s less than a 1% risk.

whatisforteamum · 30/01/2025 21:11

Mirena.
No periods.
Progesterone part incase you have hrt.
Never have to remember it.

justasking111 · 30/01/2025 21:11

My libido surge at 44 is 23 now 😁

ladygindiva · 30/01/2025 21:46

Bit retro but I got on well with a diaphragm/ cap... Still available, to my friends disbelief. I couldn't cope with hormonal contraception at all.

Talulahalula · 30/01/2025 21:53

Thrive25 thank you so much 🙏🏻😊

SantasLargerHelper · 30/01/2025 22:07

I got this with the menopause. Wonderful. Still going strong 5 years later I'm pleased to report 😀

RitaFromTheRanch · 30/01/2025 22:10

Been risking it for 3 years. No babies yet. Seriously at your age I wouldn't be bothering. He certainly doesn't need a vasectomy.

Lost.mine years ago. How did you find it?.

If anyone knows this let me know currently lost mine somewhere (early peri menopause).

Sunshineandrainbow · 31/01/2025 10:09

For those that are still struggling to find theirs and would like to, on this morning yesterday there were trying different supplements and gummies!

Sunshineandrainbow · 31/01/2025 10:11

Not sure why my post was hidden, but check out this morning from yesterday where they tried different things with women to regain libido.

Did any of them work?

My libido fell of a cliff after menopause, which was a bit of a shock!

I am 7 days post surgery and it was on in the background, I wasn't completely concentrating! I think the gummies were the most successful, the results were quite near the end of the show on 30th Jan.
Maybe I will rewatch it!!!

Interesting about those saying not to worry about pregnancy as my copper coil is 10 years old next year and I have been worrying what to do after, never thought I could just have it removed and carry on.
