Hello, I'm a 30 year old woman and been having some health issues lately. Been to the doctors multiple times. I've found out I have urine retention, I've been having pain in my groin with a lump that felt hard that went down my leg and found out it's a swollen lymph node. The doctor said he wasn't worried about it but can't give me antibiotics because already had some and dismissed it. I've also been having night sweats that's on and off that goes behind my neck, back and under my breast that wakes me up. I've had itchy arms on and off but doctor just said to take piritin.

Go back to your Doctor. Night sweats should not be dismissed.

LostittoBostik · 29/01/2025 10:31

Agreed. Ask to see a different doctor

cathyandclaire · 29/01/2025 10:32

I echo the pp- list the symptoms as you've mentioned here and he should do some tests or refer you. Have any other lumps/ lymph nodes come up?

Tiny19944 · 29/01/2025 10:42

Not what I know, the reason they found out it was a swollen lymph node was I had a scan on my groin because of the pain I've been having for months. He first tried inflammation tablets and didn't work

What sort of scan @Tiny19944? Ultrasound or something more useful for diagnosis?

Tiny19944 · 29/01/2025 10:48

Ultrasound only did it because I asked because been months and didn't feel any better. Keeps giving me antibiotics for uti even though I haven't got one because I have burning after I pee with white stuff in.

Go back to doctor and flag the night sweats. Ask for second opinion or a referral.

Tel12 · 29/01/2025 10:51

You need to see a different GP. Your symptoms shouldn't be ignored.

Tiny19944 · 29/01/2025 10:53

Ok, i will contact him tomorrow. Everything is online know and is full. Thank you so much. I feel like the doctor hasn't been listening to me. I've been up more times then I remember and still feel at a loss.

I agree this needs investigating further. Have you had any blood tests?

Tiny19944 · 29/01/2025 10:58

No blood tests

I think this is one that you need to be really robust on. Night sweats is a symptom for a lot of minor but also some really serious conditions.

But according to Dr Google, when a UTI spreads to the kidneys it can also cause night sweats so most health professionals would start with the most likely candidate rather than scare the crap out of you by ordering biopsies.

Why do you think you don't have a UTI if you have a burning sensation after peeing?

Tiny19944 · 29/01/2025 11:06

I've had multiple urine tests and every time comes back fine. I have urine retention which waiting to see an urologist.

I would ask for a different GP and bloods including liver function , U and Es (kidney) full blood count, thyroid, LDH, serum immunoglobulins, CRP and viruses while we're at it.

I would also ask for a referral for further investigation as his treatment plan of antibiotics is dragging on now.

Tiny19944 · 29/01/2025 11:19

I already have underactive thyroid

Tiny19944 · 29/01/2025 11:20

I will mention for a full blood work up. If he says no I will look at a different GP thank you

As someone who had very similar symptoms ~10 years ago I would highlight the single enlarged hard lymph node (say how many weeks it's been there), the night sweats (especially if you're having to change PJ's or bedding at the time), itchy skin, any tiredness, susceptibility to other infections etc. definitely push for more investigation, hopefully it'll be minor, good luck!

Tiny19944 · 29/01/2025 11:30

Thank you, what did your end up being if you don't mind me asking.

OP posts:
Tiny19944 · 29/01/2025 11:31

My sweating isn't to the point I need to change clothes and bedding. But is waking me up and is noticeable to me. I've never experienced it before.

I mean I will say that I'm still here 10 years on, couple of kids, a house and a dog later to try and not terrify you... Mine was Hodgkin's disease.
It's probably not but that would be the one I'd ask them to rule out, or explain their reasoning for why they don't think it is that.
Disgusting but mine was literally full bed change, it was like I'd gone bath to bed without ever bothering about a towel...

Tiny19944 · 29/01/2025 11:39

Thank you, did you notice the sweating gradually get worse. Or did it start like changing the bed. If you don't mind me asking what was your first sign? I was worried it might be that.

You need blood tests and further investigation. I always try and remind myself that I’m 5 mins in their day and therefore it’s for me to manage my health and to keep saying if things aren’t right.

not saying you have but You can have uti that comes back negative. I had that. GP did nothing but give me more courses of antibiotics when I went in. When I asked them what was stopping them doing a blood test l, they said nothing stopping them and did one. Then had urgent referral to urologist as have elevated white blood cell count. 6 month course of antibiotics sorted me out.

biscuitsandbooks · 29/01/2025 11:41

You need to insist on blood tests - those symptoms are very concerning.

Lymph node enlargement was first symptom. Night sweats were pretty bad from when they started iirc. Like others said UTI that's not showing up is probably more likely but good to rule out the worse scenarios (or know why they already have but haven't explained it)

Tiny19944 · 29/01/2025 11:45

I will mention to my gp tomorrow about wanting a blood test
