Shakes etc before period

Orchidflower1 · 19/06/2023 14:26

I think I’m peri- but each month the week before my period is getting worse and worse and bringing more symptoms.

This week I have the shakes. I feel like I’ve had 3 coffees( I don’t drink coffee anymore). My arms and legs are shaking and whenever I exert myself it’s worse.

In addition to this I’m bloated, have a constant headache and have cramps. My tolerance for other people is at zero and I can cry at the drop of a hat!

My questions are:

  1. Did anyone else have this.

  2. What things can I take that may help me feel better going forward. Morrisons has just been and I’ve ordered magnesium. Going to take some later.

Any suggestions?

Also ( I forgot to put this because I’m so bloody forgetful!) I feel dizzy a lot in the week before and the first few days of my period.

You're looking for herbal remedies only? I'd be down theGP for hrt if I were you. The only lifestyle things that make a difference are a balanced diet and exercise, which are tricky when you're feeling so rough.

Orchidflower1 · 19/06/2023 14:49

Tbh @Summerhillsquare I was I originally thinking herbal ( I’ve seen various drinks etc on Instagram) but I’m feeling awful. I think it maybe time for the dr if I can’t improve it any other way.

I'm nervous of hrt though as I never got on with the pill.

Low iron?

Summerhillsquare · 19/06/2023 14:52

At least get your blood pressure checked and blood tests to rule out anything else.

Orchidflower1 · 19/06/2023 17:00

Yes I think I’ll get my blood pressure checked. I had a text saying my local chemist is doing BP checks so I’ll pop there.

@Totallyconfusedperson I take a multivitamin with iron already so I don’t think it could be low iron but I’ll see if I can get tested.

I have just started feeling like this a few days before my period! Like I'm going to faint .. especially worse in the morning too!

This week I've had really light bleeding for over a week combined with the dizziness and it's been hell!

Did you speak to your doctor?

Orchidflower1 · 21/06/2023 14:27

@areyouhavinglaugh
so sorry to hear you’re going through this too.

I have booked a blood pressure check with my chemist next week.

My period arrived today but I still feel awful so I did an e consult with the GP. GP phoned me back about an hour ago. It wasn’t a doctor I was familiar with ( I usually try and see the same ones). He didn’t appear to have read the e consult very well as kept asking me about my heavy periods.

I hadn’t even mentioned that my periods are heavy ( they aren’t), they are just long- 11days on average.

The dr said I needed to come in for a face to face app.

Ah I think I'll go to my doctor too, as have a very light period for nearly 2 weeks now.. I'm thinking my iron must be low as I feel like all the blood has left my head and dizzy.. very odd!

Orchidflower1 · 26/06/2023 12:27

Got an appointment tomorrow with the dr- a face to face appointment.

Sounds like a dip in your blood pressure. If it is drinking salted water should help.

Totallyconfusedperson · 26/06/2023 14:40

Hope it goes well!

My friend had some weird shaking and found out internal tremors are a meno symptom.

SamR36 · 26/06/2023 15:29

I get internal tremors. Im on hrt, gel & utrogestan. It comes & goes but floors me. I dont want to bother with anyone or do anything, my anxiety is through the roof.
Dont know if its down to changes in the gel but thats another story or if hrt just doesnt work for me.
Im 50, one & half years post meno so cant be natural hormone surges. Fed up of it all 🙄
And i know im really difficult to live with right now 😬

Essexgirl80 · 26/06/2023 17:40

I have exactly the same! My hands shake the worse and I have internal tremors.

I have been told it's anxiety.
Like you it gets worse the more I do.

Tried patches but caused awful migraines.

My mood is also very low.
Pretty sure it's peri but everyone around me says mental health?!

So tired even when I do sleep.

Orchidflower1 · 26/06/2023 17:52

So sorry to hear that others feel this. If I’m honest though I’m glad it’s not just me.

@Essexgirl80 I have anxiety but it doesn’t “feel” like my anxiety iyswim - i have had anxiety most of my adult life but never this.

I will update tomorrow once I’ve been to GP.

I also have my BP check at the chemist tomorrow @Nousernamesleftatall

Orchidflower1 no I completely agree, even when I am relaxed I shake it's awful. Because I have a history with poor mental health every one assumes it's that then I doubt myself.
I also get like internal vibrations, it's such a weird feeling.

I feel like my body has been taken over and even though I know lots of people are going through it, feel so alone😔

MurielThrockmorton · 26/06/2023 18:08

It may be a B12 or other B vitamins issue. But don't supplement before a blood test or it could hide a deficiency.

SamR36 · 26/06/2023 19:08

@Essexgirl80 i suffered for 6 years, peri, same symptoms as you. Dr wanted to put me on antidepressants, i knew it was hormonal. Don't be fobbed off. Hrt may work for you. Its worth a try. I still get surges, tremors, anxiety ut not as often as before the hrt. Now i just need to find balance with my hrt. Im on gel, every month the gel comes in different packaging, besins say the ingredients are exact, i beg to differ, as my symptoms return, then i increase or decrease my gel to try find happy medium 🙄

Essexgirl80 · 26/06/2023 19:11

SamR36 what gel are you on?

SamR36 · 26/06/2023 19:37

Oestrogel or oestrodose & daily utrogestan (vaginally) cant tolerate it orally . Everyone raves about estrodot patch, may be worth a go for you.
Im strapped with what i can take as some interact with my meds.

declutteringmymind · 26/06/2023 19:39

It could be all sorts or a combination. Hopefully the GP will do some bloods to rule out a few things.

Essexgirl80 · 26/06/2023 21:15

SamR36 patches gave me horrendous migraines had to stop.
Everyone else I know seems to be breezing through with not many symptoms.
I need to try something else, just want to feel like me again😞

SamR36 · 26/06/2023 21:50

Im happy for the women that breeze through, i also wish i did. We cant all be the same unfortunately. My flushes were so bad it was embarrassing. I would soak through my uniform at work 🙈 thankfully they have stopped. But the anxiety, internal tremors are a little off, but not all the time.
Its bloody hard going being a woman

Essexgirl80 · 27/06/2023 09:20

I have suffered with depression but never on this level and never anxiety before.
How long have you been on the gel?

Orchidflower1 reading your post I could have written it myself.
I constantly cry, I wear sunglasses ALOT even when it's not sunny!!
You are not alone, happy to talk whenever you like.
