Perfume disrupts your hormones

I don't know why this has never occurred to me.

https://drbeckycampbell.com/why-perfume-is-toxic/

Am I the only person who didn't know this?

Some randomer who isn't a doctor but calls herself one!

I'll take that with a pinch of salt and carry on with my perfume I think!

Fuerza · 15/04/2023 07:16

Well, I only like very fresh green (often unisex) perfumes. I think my own sense of smell protects me from the harm of perfumes that wouldn't be right from me.
Can't believe that a bit of ck one or a bit of Elizabeth Arden Green Tea is messing with my hormones.

Bitterestpil · 15/04/2023 07:16

I used to love my perfume, can’t wear it now it gives me a headache!

Fuerza · 15/04/2023 07:18

ps, that article is basically an advert for essential oils

SquashPenguin · 15/04/2023 07:21

It’s well evidenced that artificial fragrances are endocrine disrupters.

Fuerza · 15/04/2023 07:23

oh and if you're suffering from hair loss, weight gain, or unexplained fatigue, ring this number to schedule an appointment with Dr Becky

Will spritz as normal this morning I think.

I'm going in to town this morning to buy a birthday present for my daughter and I will have my usual browse around BT and douse myself in new scents Grin

There's a lot to worry about I know and I do take a lot of things seriously. But I need the joy of perfume in my life.

barmycatmum · 15/04/2023 07:27

Oh god- thank you to the level headed ones- this sent me down a rabbit hole, looking up my favorite fragrance in a panic, wondering how I’d find out if it was disrupting my hormones!

i like smelling like a birthday cake … it would so depress me to try to be happy with anything else
(Comptoir sud pacifique Vanille Abricot. I smell cupcakes and frosting all day. 😂😂)

SunshineGeorgie · 15/04/2023 07:28

@barmycatmum that perfume sounds amazing!!

pickledandpuzzled · 15/04/2023 07:42

There are people with multiple chemical sensitivity, but they tend to know already.
I get horribly car sick if someone is wearing perfume.

pickledandpuzzled · 15/04/2023 07:44

Strange how we've been living longer and longer, despite exposure to all these dangerous substances.

TeenDivided · 15/04/2023 07:51

I haven't read the link, but iirc when I did IVF I was told not to wear perfume on collection / transfer days.

Strange how we've been living longer and longer, despite exposure to all these dangerous substances.

Arguably that’s down to improved medical care, not natural health in old age.

Meem321 · 15/04/2023 07:57

So basically a thinly veiled advert for Young Living which is a MLM. Scaremongering people into buying their products. FFS.

pickledandpuzzled · 15/04/2023 08:00

Right, squash, but if the ever increasing levels of various toxins in perfume, cosmetics and pesticides in food were that bad, it would be hard to see life expectancy growing.

I mean, I avoid a lot of this stuff anyway, but I can't see it as directly harmful given our success at surviving it.

HouseByTheSeaside · 15/04/2023 08:15

There's lots of other sources if you google it

They aren't saying it's going to kill you. Just that it can throw your hormones out of balance.
I thought that might be of interest to women who are taking hormones to try to balance theirs 🤷🏼‍♀️

Essential oils can disrupt your hormones too.

Right in the last five years, no. But perfume hasn't suddenly emerged in the last five years. Commercial widely available perfume hasn't coincided with outbreaks of poor life expectancy.

Disrupted hormones does not mean lower life expectancy.

I posted on the menopause board because there are a high percentage of people here trying to balance their hormones.

Seems a bit silly to take HRT then spray something all over you which will disrupt your levels again.

OP posts:
SunshineGeorgie · 15/04/2023 17:07

Perfume doesn't 'disrupt' all your levels again though?

It MAY do but it's not a given.

And silly?? We are all adults who can do what we want and use our own judgement here

@HouseByTheSeaside Dr Becky C is a 'board certified dr of blah blah...' See About and the Team

she's not a doctor.

Always check out the qualifications of anyone posting this kind of stuff.

Forget the first article. There is plenty out there confirming this:
