I don't know why this has never occurred to me.

https://drbeckycampbell.com/why-perfume-is-toxic/

Am I the only person who didn't know this?

OP, if you aren't this charlatan yourself (because frankly, with each link you're convincing me more that you're either her, or one of her MLM sellers) then maybe apply a little critical thinking.
What, let's say, are the chances, that a substance which has gone through almost, if not an equal amount of, stringent safety procedures is allowed to be sold, OTC, to the unsuspecting public?
What would you say?
Cosmetics, skincare, and perfume are 3 of the most highly regulated in terms of safety tests in both the US, and Europe.

That old chestnut about chemicals v "natural" is such total bollocks it doesn't even need to be commented on. Essential oils can poison you. Water is a chemical.

Before spaffing this conspiracy theory bollocks all over the internet, educate yourself.

I haven't read the link, but iirc when I did IVF I was told not to wear perfume on collection / transfer days.

That's basic hygiene, not hormones.

OP- you posted with an agenda with a capital A.

If I put into Google "chemicals and hormones perfume" the first hits are the EXACT links you've posted. You went looking for other "evidence" to prove your unscientific codswallop.

That your links are ALL from "anti-chemical" "pro-natural" lentil weaving woo nonsense groups and organisations and further googling shows not one person cited has any scientific/toxicological/endocrinology background tells me all I need to know.

(Plus "Dr" Becky being a bit of an all-rounder obvs. Is there any medical speciality she's not involved in? Call me old-fashioned but I'd quite like a thyroid specialist looking at my thyroid and a gynae looking at my uterus rather than an MLM blagger looking at both)

Calm down. I don't have any agenda.
I do think it's strange how worked up some of you are getting about this.

I'm just sharing some information which I thought might be relevant.
I'm not "lentil munching", or "pro-natural " (whatever the hell THAT means)

I have perfumes myself. I love the smell of them. But I am wondering about this issue. Especially since my peri menopausal hormones are all over the place.

You can just crack on and ignore it you know. It's really not worth getting in such a flap about.

Is it? Are you saying wearing perfume is unhygenic?

I assumed it was something about the perfume they didn't want around the embryos.

OliveViolet · 16/04/2023 15:52

Perfumes, colonies, deodorants,… contain substances harmful to embryos

No, of course not. I have over 200 and write about them.
I mean, that in sterile surgical type situations, you're told to nor wear make up, perfumes, jewellery etc.
Any surgical situation.

TeenDivided · 16/04/2023 16:01

On the back of this I have googled:

Please avoid using perfumes, aftershaves and scented soaps for the duration of your treatment which can be toxic to embryos.

and also

For the embryo transfer, the embryologist takes the embryos out of the incubator and therefore they get to be in contact with the air. Perfumes, colonies, deodorants,… contain substances harmful to embryos. These substances will remain in the air and the embryos can make contact with them.

It's just a site selling products.
At very high prices!

She isn't a 'doctor' and on one page she says she isn't recognised as a naturopathic dr, or licensed to practice in wherever she in the US. There is nothing about her training, where she trained, what in fact she is - but she is a business woman.

Certain chemicals have been linked to some medical conditions for a long time, especially things like plug-in air fresheners and similar room fragrances.

I think the problem with the link is that there is some truth in the negative effects of synthetic chemicals, but the site is really using the topic to sell other products (I expect there is some commercial link to the products- organic oils- she says she uses.)
