Four months on HRT and breasts growing

Katie000 · 13/03/2023 17:03

I’m on two pumps of Oestrogel and continuous Utrogestan and I’m wondering if I need to adjust the dose as my breasts are growing every month!
When I started HRT back in October last year, I was a 34b and I’ve just been measured today and they say I’m a 30g!
The bra they sold me fits well and is comfortable but it’s huge, it’s making me very self conscious as well.
Should I reduce the Oestrogel?

Hi - I feel your pain! My boobs are constantly fluctuating and I have about 3 different sizes of bras that I wear.. I have a new addition from www.loung-erie.com it's a comfort bralette that is stretchy and supportive, really good!

Not sure on the oestrogel dosage? Have an appointment coming up about my HRT next month xx

This is basically why I had to stop HRT - massive tender boobs, so painful.

RudsyFarmer · 17/03/2023 22:29

Yep my boobies are MASSIVE

I’ve gained weight since being on HRT but I swear a chunk of it has gone on my boobs alone. I now have to wear an ordinary bra under a sports bra to keep the puppies above my waist.

GCWorkNightmare · 17/03/2023 22:32

I’m 6 weeks in. Starting at a 34J so hope this isn’t something that is inevitable!

ItsNotUnusualToBe · 17/03/2023 22:37

Did you go to bravissimo? It’s a regular thing that women have a shock when they get measured properly for the first time. A better way to assess would be if existing clothes are fitting drastically differently. Apologies if this isn’t your situation.

I am on oestrogel and have not experienced this. Maybe speak to GP ( or healthcare rather than MN?

SamR36 · 17/03/2023 22:37

Same! Mine are huge, i was originally a 34E but have outgrown all my bra's, spilling out, its driving me mad as i already looked top heavy. I've also put weight on elsewhere. I train hard at the gym, eat well within my calories, the only answer is the hrt.
Im in 2 pumps oestrogel & daily 100mg utrogestan
Some say that this regime does not cause weight gain 🙄. I beg to differ

RudsyFarmer · 17/03/2023 23:00

I know. On mumsnet people like to say they haven’t experienced weight gain yet in all the groups everyone else has.

Xrays · 17/03/2023 23:18

Yeah mine have increased by a couple of cup sizes.

But I would bet money you weren’t a 34b before - if you’ve gone somewhere like Bravissimo or done the boob or bust calculator it’s very common for women to think they’re a b or c cup and come out as a G or H.

SamR36 · 17/03/2023 23:45

@RudsyFarmer 100% agree. Some also say that we couldnt possibly have gained through the hrt as its body identical. Nonsense i know ive gained through the hrt.
One lady stopped and started just to prove it actually was the hrt causing the gain

RudsyFarmer · 18/03/2023 06:23

In every other regard though I am
happy. So I’m going to put up with it 😬

It's a nightmare

MintTeaAndChocolate · 18/03/2023 06:45

I'm seriously considering stopping to weigh up the difference

MintTeaAndChocolate · 18/03/2023 06:45

I'm 18 months in and feel enormous

Mammillaria · 18/03/2023 06:59

I suspect mine is caused by the Utrogestan.

I'm on cyclical hrt: estrogen patches and Utrogestan 14 days on / 14 days off. I only get enlarged/swollen breasts in the 2 days final days of the Utrogestan.

I wonder if it makes a difference if you take the Utrogestan orally or vaginally? I take 1 capsule vaginally (as orally made me feel sedated)

Incidentally I have not experienced weight gain, so wonder if that's a continuous hrt thing or if I've just been lucky?

RudsyFarmer · 18/03/2023 07:37

I think it’s really dependant on the individual and your starting point. Feel enormous too. Like early pregnancy enormous.

Stepuptowardsinfinity · 18/03/2023 07:42

I was a size 8 before I went on HRT. It did absolutely nothing for me apart from give me a belly and massive breasts. The private clinic I was at just kept saying I needed to up the oestrogen to tackle the mood swings etc. Actually I think I needed a lot less. I came off it after 6 months and felt much better and am now dealing with the peri with diet, exercise and supplements. Unfortunate the breasts are still massive and I look like bloody Barbara Windsor as I'm so short.

PamelaDawes · 18/03/2023 07:48

i’ve been on hrt for two years so very stable now, and I’ve lost 25 lbs through diet and fasting. My boobs are the smallest they have ever been since I was 13. It is like they are done and just left after 3 babies and 8 combined years of feeding. I do not miss them.

I think the hrt improvements to mood and energy helped me lose weight, but it took a while to get everything steady.

stilldumdedumming · 18/03/2023 08:13

@PamelaDawes that's interesting. I'm about a month into gel and continuous progesterone tablet orally. My breasts are so painful. I was overweight to begin with but losing and now it's all going up again. I cannot afford any more bust. I'm like the front of a ship and it's making me more self conscious than ever.

I'm seriously considering coming off but I do think it's also helping me focus on daily exercise and my nutrition has never been better.

Do you think it will settle down and then I can reap the rewards of my bloody virtuous lifestyle!!!

SamR36 · 18/03/2023 08:15

Its all hit or miss i think. Everyone reacts differently. Im not even sure if its changed me at all apart from flushes..
I take continious, im 50 & been on it a year. Definetlty gained, bloated feeling. Not sure if its the utrogestan or the Gel, utrogestan vaginally as it messes up my other meds otherwise. I wish i did know as i could change 1or the other. Im determined to get this weight off. Ive never been able to deal with weight gain 🙈 have to start cutting more calories & putting extra in at the gym

Stressybetty · 18/03/2023 08:19

Yes same here, went from a 32HH to a 34J. Now fluctuate between 34J and 36HH. Boobs also tender and sore. Started on 14 day Ustrogen and 2 pumps oestrogel. Dropped to 1 pump months ago which has helped the tenderness. Really need to speak to GP I suppose

Tatapie · 20/03/2023 07:31

I'm the same! Massive massive boobs and weight gain, my thighs , hips belly . I'm on 2 pumps and continuous utrogestan. Seriously thinking what to do. I can't wear anything without looking shit. My skin is lovely tho and moods improved. Hair and scalp awful. I feel such a mess.

UsernameNotAvailableNow · 20/03/2023 07:46

This sounds awful for you all. Bloating and very sore boobs were one of my peri symptoms, and continuous patches helped hugely once I was on the right dose. Maybe it is a gel thing?

stilldumdedumming · 20/03/2023 08:07

Yes I didn't have it with the patches. I felt much better. But was allergic to the glue. The gel is completely different. I feel the benefits brain fog wise. But I was already overweight and I can't decide on the benefits of HRT

JinglingSpringbells · 20/03/2023 08:30

I think it depends on how many estrogen receptors you have in your breasts and that is probably linked to how much breast growth you had in puberty too.

I spent years as a 32A cup, moving up to a 32B after pregnancies, and HRT moved me up another cup size.

I've noticed many of the posts here are from women with larger boobs to start with, which possibly means your breasts responded in puberty and now to HRT.

A lot of breast tissue is fat, post meno, so being overweight will mean bigger boobs.

Katie000 · 20/03/2023 12:22

I’m wondering if my dosage is wrong? Or whether I just need to give it more time for my body to adjust?
