Have my periods ended for good?!

I’m 46 - periods have been regularly irregular for about 3.5 years now (eg 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 3, 5, 4 etc) but now I’ve had nothing since October. Nothing at all - no spotting, discharge, nothing. Also getting major hot flushes on a daily (& nightly 😭) basis but other than that nothing else has changed. Is that it for my periods? Is this the end? Or could they still come back at this stage? I know to be truly menopausal it’s a year but this is quite a long gap now. (I’m not pregnant btw!)

Anyone has a long gap like this for them to come back again? Or can I pass all my tampons onto the kids finally?!

Periods can play tricks during perimenopause. You think that’s it and then bang! Six months later one appears. Unless you have a period for a year or more, they could reappear . Perimenopause can last up to ten years , so maybe keep hold of the tampax for now.

TellySavalashairbrush · 02/02/2023 22:21

Haven’t not have!

IwasToldThereWouldBeCake · 02/02/2023 22:25

I m soon to be 44, I didn't have a period from end of September until Xmas day (!!), then got another one exactly 2 weeks later....... Hmmmmm

Did some onli e research and apparently once you go 60 (or maybe it was 80) days without a period you are I. Late stage peri with only about 7 to 10 periods left, so potentially 2 more years of oddly spaced out periods before menopause.

IwasToldThereWouldBeCake · 02/02/2023 22:27

I must go to docs and see if she suggests HRT.

Catlover1705 · 02/02/2023 22:30

Mine stopped for 6 months and then started again in my late 40's. I remember my last period went on for about 3 weeks and seemed like a final clear out I was 51.

Pigeonchested · 03/02/2023 06:18

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I’m not probably quite done yet then… that’s annoying! It just seems so sudden after having them regularly (but not regularly IYSWIM) for so long and then bang- Nothing!
ill keep hold of the tampons just in case then!

I was like you and then got one after about 8 months.

I have about 1 or 2 a year now.

They're a delight and don't make me feel like I'm going to bleed to death at all.

Pigeonchested · 03/02/2023 11:56

Are the one or two a year mega heavy? Like it’s saving them all up at once?! I’m not sure what’s worse!

RuthW · 03/02/2023 12:15

I had a couple of years of one every 8
7-8 months before I went 12 months.

SirVixofVixHall · 03/02/2023 12:19

I found the last few really horrendously heavy yes. Having had fairly light to medium periods since they started , it was a bit of a shock.
Have a chat with your GP about HRT if you think you might want to try it.

Beenmum · 03/02/2023 12:22

I’ve had a horrendously heavy one followed by 175 days without to have two very light ones … I’ve got my fingers crossed that’s it .. I was gutted when I got one on day 175

Pigeonchested · 03/02/2023 13:46

175 days! I’m impressed with your precision on dates 😁
I was REALLY hoping mine might have gone for good. But think I’m being too optimistic judging by everyone else… dammit. I don’t feel any different other than some sweaty nights though which I think I can suck up so don’t feel the need to take HRT at this point.

Can everyone say their age? Nosiness from me!

discobrain · 03/02/2023 16:01

I am almost forty-six, and I am still (dammit) having regular periods. They went a bit wonky before I managed to get hold of some HRT (perimenopause started at forty for me). I'd be thrilled if mine stopped. It's like the sodding elevator scene from the film The Shining, every time.

Sleepybear1234 · 03/02/2023 22:57

I'm nearly 45 and just had my first gap of 78 days x my af eventually arrived out of the blue just as I was hoping they may have been gone for good I didn't get much warning either slight grumpiness the night before and it lasted 8 days rather than the three days it's lasted the last few years x I'm wondering what's in store next x

Sugaspunsista · 03/02/2023 22:58

I'm 52 and still having regular periods
My mum has been promising me the menopause since I was 40.....

Aquamarine1029 · 03/02/2023 23:02

Be very, very careful with contraception. My great grandmother thought she was in menopause. She got pregnant at 49 and had the baby at 50, two months before her granddaughter, my mum, was born.

Pigeonchested · 04/02/2023 12:30

@Aquamarine1029 crikey! That’s my worst nightmare. Still using contraception for that very reason!

Hi im 51 and my periods used to be bang on 25 days. Last four cycles have been 23, 37, 25 and currently on day 48 and no period as of yet. I've had the pre period cramps for 3 weeks now and excuse the tmi but my nipples feel like they've been set on fire, but boobs not sore!
Bored of precautionary pads.
Is this it?

BatshitCrazyWoman · 19/02/2023 18:10

I was going 6 to 8 months between them in my early fifties 🙄 and started HRT at 56, when I'd not had a period for nine months. Until you've gone a year if you're over 50 or 2 years if under, then assume you're fertile and keep using contraception.

Sewaccidentprone · 19/02/2023 18:11

Mine just stopped one day and nothing since.

Rowgtfc72 · 19/02/2023 18:19

@BatshitCrazyWoman I'm on the mini pill and will be staying on it till I'm 55!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 19/02/2023 18:38

Rowgtfc72 · 19/02/2023 18:19

@BatshitCrazyWoman I'm on the mini pill and will be staying on it till I'm 55!

The pill didn't agree with me, so I was the oldest woman at the family planning clinic (for my diaphragm) 😂

gogohmm · 19/02/2023 18:39

Possibly but I've had 3 month breaks a few times, it's coincided with covid for me too and the vaccine messed with both my DD's cycles so don't discount that too as a possibility

dontwaitforever · 23/02/2023 21:12

I've just got my first period in eight months this evening.
I am gutted! I thought this was finally it!
My cycles have been increasingly erratic over the last 5 ish years (I'm 49). I've gone 3-4 months with nothing several times, only to then have three every three weeks.
I can't bear the thought of having them again, especially if, like some pps, I get a blood bath every 8 months. I wish they would just bugger off!
Maybe you'll be luckier than me, op.
