How frequently do you get your hrt script?

crispinglovershighkick · 24/01/2023 14:22

A letter from the menopause clinic asked my GP to prescribe three months of hrt but I'm still getting two months' at a time (an improvement on one month, how it used to be prescribed).

I'm curious about how frequently others are getting their scripts.

Every 3 months for me.

I pick mine up monthly

I pick mine up monthly

Sorry, I misread - my GP prescribes six months at a time

Imtryingnottobother · 24/01/2023 15:18

Last check up I had the nurse mentioned getting a script for 6 months and told me there was talk of 12 months worth in some circles ? duly put in request for 6 months and came away with regular 3 month supply.
Feels like you are being infantilised when it comes to hrt, like you can’t be trusted to make good decisions when it comes to your health.

crispinglovershighkick · 24/01/2023 15:36

Ah ok, maybe there's more than one thing at play here. I can collect two months' supply from the pharmacy. I'm not sure how the repeat prescription is handled because normally I request the script from the online pharmacy. I don't know if they hold more than two months of scripts.

Three monthly for the Oestrogel and monthly for the Progesterone. Since I take them both continuously I really wish they'd prescribe them both three monthly (or longer).

Yes absolutely. I only got hrt after years of asking and being told I could have antidepressants. It took an appointment with a locum (about something completely unrelated) to get the referral.

Three monthly , I asked for 6 but they said they had to follow some prescription guidelines and 3 was the maximum at the moment.

Oh god, how ridiculous!

Three monthly.

maranella · 24/01/2023 15:40

I get a six-month prescription, but how many I get dispensed at once varies according to supply. Sometimes I get all six months in one go, other times it's one or two months at a time. Last year was particularly bad for supply, but this year it seems to have been sorted out.

Blueuggboots · 24/01/2023 15:40

I did get 6 months but they've told me from now on, I can only have three months "to make sure everyone gets some"

JinglingSpringbells · 24/01/2023 15:50

Because of the shortages of some types of HRT , mainly gel and spray estrogen, the limit per woman is 3 months.

This has been going on since August (or earlier) last year.

Anyone who is getting more than 3 months shouldn't be, as it means some women can't get any.

(Not my guidance but that's the rule.)

Oblomov22 · 24/01/2023 16:18

Press GP. They may try and fob you off, but you can say no, the consultants letter prescribed 3 months and I'd like 3 months prescription please. Don't back down. Polite but firm.

JustDrama · 24/01/2023 16:21

My last was for 6 months.

OpportunityKnockss · 24/01/2023 16:22

Every two months, it used to be every month so I emailed the doctors and asked them to change it.

KnittedCardi · 24/01/2023 16:25

Every two months. I did however, push and push, and despite not being their protocol, I recently got 3 months, woo hoo! I then had to go to three pharmacies, as apparently Ultrogestan is now short supply.......

Flippettyflip · 24/01/2023 16:28

The nurse said I'd get 6 months on the next repeat, I got 2.

Then I called the surgery and they liaised with the Dr, who apparently said 3 was the max, but that they'd update it to 3 on repeat. Then in reality on ordering I actually got 2 months 🙄.

crispinglovershighkick · 25/01/2023 00:51

Thanks for replies, useful to know how this is going for others.

I get one month at a time. It was very annoying when I had to pay but I now get all my prescriptions for free as I am on thyroid medication.

RowenaCoxwell · 25/01/2023 21:18

6 months (Evorel Sequi)

astrowars · 25/01/2023 21:26

I had a moan about prescription charges and got 6 months worth of patches on my last script. Just questioned why I could get 6 months of contraception which is free but only 2 months of hrt which I had to pay for

LaMariposa · 25/01/2023 21:28

6 months - I’m on patches.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 25/01/2023 21:29

One month at a time here so I've had to sign up for direct debit scheme to save money.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 25/01/2023 21:30

Well. The prescription was for three months I didn't check how much I got. I will next time.
