I am suffering with peri-meno symptoms of heart palpitations & early waking/ feeling of doom/unwarranted panic - on hrt but heard magnesium is good too. But there are so many types/doses. Can anyone advise me on which is best for my specific symptoms. The Holland & Barrett staff are lovely but not the best qualified I fear!

Clinical Nutritionist here.

OP when is the last time you had your HbA1c checked, Low blood sugar can cause the symptoms you’re describing.

The Better You magnesium spray and body lotion is often in TK Maxx for anyone wanting to try it.

Topical magnesium does absolutely nothing for me.

I pretty much need horse tranquillisers to knock me out. 😳

Topical magnesium works for my ectopic beats, but doesn't get me off to sleep. 5 squirts of Better You magnesium lotion at bedtime.

I had a load of bloods done in the summer.. not sure if for that you mention specifically, but came back showing slightly low iron only.. I will try & speak to another doctor to find out more though. Thx

How long before going to bed do you take the magnesium - I have been taking it in the morning but am very interested to move to the evening. Thanks

Magnesium glycinate. Magnesium citrate also ok. Avoid magnesium oxide unless you are constipated.

watch for cheap fillers.

for palpitations, mention to your GP? Consider a test for ferritin levels.
