Go to bed earlier??? I’m a life long early waker, you just need to get to bed earlier the night before.

KangarooKenny · 29/04/2022 06:32

I go to bed at 10pm, if I go any earlier the dog will have me up in the night for a wee, if I go later I still wake at 5.30.

Sounds silly, but earplugs.
I was always up at 4 and since wearing earplugs sleep until my alarm.
I think I must sleep really lightly at that time of night now, and any tiny noise was getting me up.

Rina66 · 29/04/2022 06:39

If I know I really need to sleep and for special occasions only 😂 I take Night Nurse - otherwise I'm awake after 4 hours, always. Might give the ear plugs a whirl, I was such a good sleeper, I can not believe it's come to this.

KangarooKenny · 29/04/2022 06:41

I’ve tried ear plugs before due to snoring DH ( now we have separate rooms so it’s not a problem ) and they gave me itchy ears.
I might try an antihistamine as they knock me out

Me too!

Upside is I get a huge amount done by 7am, I did used to wake up in the night too but since I've been on oestrogen patches I do sleep through.

I'd love a lie in but 5.15am, ping, wide awake.

Notonthestairs · 29/04/2022 08:54

I thought HRT would sort this out but no...
However after review my oestrogen has been increased and I have one pump bed (that sounds wrong...)
Anyway sleep is definitely improving- now I can sleep til 6!

MintJulia · 29/04/2022 09:02

No, I embraced it instead. Used the early hours for laundry, ironing and housework. It was nice, no rush, a quiet house, coffee and the radio. And it meant I only needed to hoover round and prep food during normal hours.

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 29/04/2022 09:03

3am for me. I cried down the phone to the GP this week and she's tweaked my HRT dose. I'm really hoping it works, I can feel my mental health declining steadily, but I know it's menopause rather than depression so trying to power through and not being v successful.

WildCoasts · 29/04/2022 09:11

5am here. I've been taking magnesium before bed. The last few days it's been closer to 6am.

Caminante · 29/04/2022 09:16

Wearing a sleep mask really helps me, especially in the summer months.

Okbutnotgreat · 29/04/2022 09:16

I increased my patches from 50 to 75 and that did the trick for me. On the whole sleeping better now than I have for years.

KangarooKenny · 29/04/2022 09:23

I have an Epsom salt bath a couple of times a week, so get magnesium there, but maybe I need to swap to a tablet.
Funnily enough I had a bath last night but was still awake early.
I had a bit of a bad dream and that’s what woke me up today. Yesterday I think I was maybe anxious about work.

OP posts:
KangarooKenny · 29/04/2022 09:24

I could do with a dream analyst 🤣

I slept until 6am today, feel like I’ve won the lottery !
Somehow 6am feels better than 5.30.

OP posts:
Rina66 · 30/04/2022 07:24

What did you do differently to make you sleep until 6 @KangarooKenny ?

KangarooKenny · 30/04/2022 07:29

Nothing !
But yesterday I had a couple of things I had to do, so I think that I was maybe slightly internally stressing about it. Plus, I’m not working today.
I love my job and I’ve been doing it for years so I’ve no worry about it, but maybe, due to my age, I do worry a bit but don’t realise.

Powerpotpie · 30/04/2022 07:30

I kind of like waking at 5:30 😁 just embracing it, but then I’m asleep by 10:30 pm, so a good 7 hours sleep.

ValerieDoonican · 30/04/2022 07:30

I've needed a sleep mask in summer since the menopause...to think I used to like sleeping with the cirtains open so the sun would help me wake up 🙄

weekendcookie · 30/04/2022 17:04

I often wake up at 6:30am and wake often in the middle of the night. I can't remember the last time I slept right through the night and was woken up by my alarm.

My dreams are really hard work as well. I often dream I am trying to overcome things like going out with no shoes on and trying to find them.

KangarooKenny · 30/04/2022 18:14

My DF was having what I would describe as agitated dreams, he was waking up tired. So the GP prescribed phenergan, and he can tell the difference if he’s forgotten it.

OP posts:
Rina66 · 01/05/2022 21:34

I've got some phenergen, I'll try that tonight!

KangarooKenny · 01/05/2022 21:35

Good luck 🤞🏻

Magnesium malate has helped me enormously. However there's still days I wake up at 4:30 and then cannot get back to sleep. It normally happens when DH has come to bed very late due to having to work in different time zones. I normally get up at 6 but god I hate those days I miss out on my last 1.5 hours of sleep.
