4am for me. If I go back to sleep at that point I feel so much worse when the alarm goes off at 6 😴

I have recently started magnesium sleep spray by betterYou. I use 3 squirts per shoulder 10 minutes before bed and rub in in. I did take the magnesium tablets but had to stop, I was disappointed as they really worked, but, I have found the spray amazing. It's available on Amazon.

I'd be happy with 5:30, if I slept thru to 5:30. What irks me is waking at 2am unable to sleep for 2.5-3 hours. Then I need to sleep in later to catch up. so much time wasted in bed not sleeping. Getting up at 5:30am is fine, though, especially this time of year when dawn is so pretty.

Lifetime of insomnia has taught me many things. The best strategy is to rest in bed in the dark, podcasts are ok, & sleep may take me unexpectedly. The worst strategy is getting up at 2:30-3am and start doing stuff... I never go back to sleep that way. Getting out of bed and into activity, the light, is a sure way to have the least sleep possible.

I have an Epsom salt bath a couple of times a week, so get magnesium there, but maybe I need to swap to a tablet.
Funnily enough I had a bath last night but was still awake early.
I had a bit of a bad dream and that’s what woke me up today. Yesterday I think I was maybe anxious about work.

You can buy pure magnesium flakes. Put a few cups in a bath.
Stay in bath as long as you can. It's pretty cheap. Pound shops have 2 kg usually on offer about £3 to try.
Then if it works for you buy large amounts. Amazon have 25kg for around £25 other suppliers are out there. It does make the water hard. If you are worried about water meters, use a tub for your feet instead.

I used to take magnesium tablets which do work for me, but I was up to 8 tablets a day and the side effects were not pleasant.

As for the sleep thing, I am awake for 2 or more hours sometime through the night. My fitbit tells me this, I'm not actually aware of being awake so long. Which is very odd. Somewhere between 11pm and 3am I'm always awake. I'm aware I'm awake just doesn't feel like it's so long a time.

Sorry for the wall of text, I had a lot to say

Is there a big difference between Epsom salts and magnesium flakes ?

OP posts:
KangarooKenny · 02/05/2022 06:28

I was awake at 5.30 again and the difference, I think, was two glasses of wine last night. Got to give it up. I only drink one bottle over two nights a week, but it makes a difference to my sleep.

Smoke a big fat spliff before bed 😴

wanderingscot · 02/05/2022 06:46

Piriteze actually.
I get a mild reaction and this time of year to pollen and it makes my skin itchy. I take a piriteze before bed and it has the side effect of making me sleep better. A while ago, a doctor had suggested this as a remedy for insomnia- didn't really work at the time for that, probably not strong enough - but does seem to now help with the early wakes.

I wake 5-5.45 every morning

absolutely love it

i get up and straight in to running gear, unload the dishwasher, have a delicious coffee whilst on mumsnet, and then head out for a run.

im back and in a wonderful mood before the children have even stirred!

the absolute and only! best thing about the menopause in my opinion

I am in bed by 9pm, light off by 10 absolute latest.

tomatoandherbs · 02/05/2022 06:54

BatshitCrazyWoman · 02/05/2022 10:53

I get up at 5.30 am for work 😂

HRT sorted my 3 am waking, now I sleep until just before my alarm every day.

nirvanafan · 11/05/2022 07:41

If I wake up too early I take some CBD oil and it seems to help me get back to sleep. If you drive you may want to check if there are any side effects.

5128gap · 11/05/2022 12:49

No. I just ended up going with it in the end and used the time for a bit of peace and quiet to read or excercise. As long as I went to bed early enough to get 6 hours it was all I seemed to need. It lasted several years during peri, but then seemed to resolve itself and I'm now wishing I could get up a bit earlier!

melcalfe · 11/05/2022 12:51

I wake up at 5.30 every day without alarm and love it ?? I'm 35.

So much peace in the morning, and time by myself before I start work. A sunrise walk or run sometimes.
I go to bed around 10pm
