Long period?

I'm 49 and think I'm peri-menopausal. Ive always had regular periods but recently I had 20 days between 2 periods and I've now been bleeding for 12 days when usually they last for about 5 days.
Is it worth trying to see my GP?

Oddly enough I started a thread on this topic five years ago - so reposting in case there's anything useful there.

To update: after that I went a while without having a period (maybe three - six months but can't really remember) then had a few normal ones then they stopped and started for a while finally culminating in about three in quick succession then stopped for a year!

Then was unlucky enough to have another which prompted all the normal investigations and that was about nine months ago. So it's all been a bit of a rollercoaster.

I don't know what your surgery's procedures are but at mine you have to Email your symptoms before getting an appointment anyway. So you could do this and ask if the GP wants to see you - I suspect they'll put it down to perimenopause but it's always reassuring to know an expert has looked at things.

This is probably your new normal!

Thank you - it's good to know that it's fairly common. I'll give it a couple of days & see if I can get an appointment of some sort.
Not sure I'm looking forward to this new normal....
