Lack of sleep is ruining my life. Any advice?

I’m 47 and for the past year my sleep has got worse and worse. I’m OK falling asleep but wake up a few hours later and am lucky to get the odd 10 minutes after that.
I’ve cut out alcohol and caffeine completely, I don’t eat after 7pm, I exercise intensively every other day and have a long brisk walk every day. I’m literally at the end of my tether.

HRT helped with all aspects of peri except insomnia... I now also take 20mg amitryptaline a night and sleep like a log.

Sharonz low testosterone is linked to poor quality sleep. When the testosterone level is low the hormone cortisol increases - and cortisol keeps us awake when we don't want to be!

It's hard (actually impossible) to get GPs to prescribe testosterone as it's not licensed.
I can't afford a private consultation either so I have to make the best of my GP is prepared to prescribe and vitamins, especially D3
(on offer at Holland and Barrett)
All this stuff costs a fortune!!

SoyMarina that is not true. GP's can and do prescribe off licence. Just ask. It's worth a try.

@Nickersnackersnockers, thanks , I didn’t know that.
My sleep has been broken for the last two nights and I’m not sure why as I had been sleeping really well.
It could be the change in routine over the Christmas holidays but that has never been an issue before.
So instead of increasing my oestrogel (which I am tempted to do) I’m going to up my magnesium dose.
