How many times do you wake in the night?

tinkywinkyshandbag · 11/11/2020 22:51

I must wake up
at least 4 or 5 times a night, usually for a wee, sometimes it's a hot flush that wakes me then I get up for a wee. I'm exhausted. I don't see excessively in the day, only at night. I'm 53, is this normal??

I don't, but I have always been good at sleeping.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/11/2020 23:46

It can be normal for some, yes. Get HRT. There is absolutely no reason to suffer like this.

DramaLlama12 · 11/11/2020 23:47

Yep about 4 .. only recently has it been to go to the toilet.. sweats , duvet too hot then too cold , leg in leg out , ear worm .. my 18 year old self would sleep until noon !
I’m very hot but DH says my hands are freezing when I try cuddle up

Overseasmom100 · 11/11/2020 23:52

Im 53 and wake prob 2-3 times usually when I wake Im red hot..kick the covers off then get cold. Never hot in day always at night. Strangley from March in lockdown hotness stopped no waking but last few months been red hot and waking. Ive pit a stone on in weight and thought that hasnt helped

fallfallfall · 11/11/2020 23:55

3-4, but i'm retired so it really doesn't matter.

CatherineCawood · 11/11/2020 23:55

I'm 47 and seem this week to be averaging about 3 to 4 hours sleep night 😴 it is shit. Can't have HRT so will just have to plod on. I e had 6 months without periods so hoping this is the menopause.

wincy · 11/11/2020 23:58

I'm 58 and still wake up a couple of times a night with hot flushes. At its worst it can be every hour. I find that I wake up and then the hot flush starts after several seconds so I don't know what triggers me to wake up - anyone else have this?

IndieTara · 12/11/2020 00:01

I'm 54 and find it hard to get to sleep and generally wake up 2 or 3 times a night. I've been on HRT for a couple of years and it doesn't stop my sleep issues

DramaLlama12 · 12/11/2020 00:03

Oh yeah should’ve mentioned I’m 46 years old . Been on the mini pill for many many years so can’t tell you what my periods are like but my moods are shocking
One day I hate the world and his wife , another day I’m crying for no reason ,another day I want to just fuck off to a third world country , being anonymous and helping out
Today was a crying day

WhereAreWeNow · 12/11/2020 10:44

For me it's not so much the number of times, it's that I don't go back to sleep. So in the 2 weeks before my period, I tend to wake up around 3 or 4am and can't go back to sleep. I need to wee several times in the night. I wake up with a parched mouth and need to drink. But no hot flushes. It's driving me mad.

cathyandclare · 12/11/2020 10:50

53- no flushes but wake once 2-4 am then can't go back to sleep. I've aged a decade in the last 6 months!

dingledongle · 12/11/2020 14:30

48, several times Sad

Husband says I 'thrash about' 🤷‍♀️

Usually wake up feeling sweaty 🥵

monday1983 · 12/11/2020 14:38

I am too awake at 3 or 4am for 2 weeks leading to my period with anxiety and pounding heart, its been going on gor around 5 yeasnd i am only 38

Diversion · 12/11/2020 22:01

I'm also 53, I wake probably every hour with hot flushes. I can feel them coming on, buzzing ears and a thumping heart. Throw the bedcovers off and then 15 or so minutes later I am cold again and need the bedcovers back on.

user1471453601 · 12/11/2020 22:09

I'm nearly 70. I wake up twice ( at.least) every night. Thats fine. I can go without really waking up, and anyway, what time I get up.doesn't really matter.

Overseasmom100 · 12/11/2020 23:08

Me too @wincy I wake up and boom red hot flushes..Im assuming this makes me wake then I start thinking of stuff and actung stuff out in my head and cant get back to sleep

JoeBidenIsGreat · 13/11/2020 11:24

I have had a lot of trouble getting back to sleep for 21 years since my children started being born. Cats, husband, teenagers -- they all conspire to wake me up. I had minor trouble falling back to sleep before that from teenage years onwards. I swear Sleep is my tormentor.

menofanny · 14/11/2020 09:19

Yep, normal in meno. The 4am wake is the most normal. I found that no wine (so sad about that) helps and linen bedding too

BlitzenandMikey · 14/11/2020 10:07

My sleep is shocking despite being on HRT. No idea what to do about it. I’ve tried most remedies to no avail. My brain doesn’t switch off, but no flushes. I’ve tried increasing the dose but I get period pains, so the current dose has to continue for a bit longer. Menopause is absolutely crap.

Whenwillow · 14/11/2020 10:17

I'm 54 and my sleeping habits have changed too. I wake up several times, but not for long, and then usually about 3am I'm wide awake and wishing it was morning for about an hour. Quite often with a jittery feeling in my belly. Then I do fall back to sleep but wide awake by 5.30, and I get up and meditate downstairs (guided meditation on phone with earphones) That keeps me resting at least, till the alarm goes off at 6.30.
The hot/cold thing is not extreme at the moment, but am having to sleep naked and with window open. Covers on and off, you all know the drill.
I don't drink tea after 5pm (decaff) and just have a glug of water before I settle down, and that's helping the night time weeing a lot (I do drink plenty of water all day, till dinnertime)
You all have my sympathies. Reading this it certainly seems pretty common for peri/meno.

Overseasmom100 · 14/11/2020 23:58

Im wondering whether to cut out a coffe/tea I have before bed. I wake baking hot...really scorching as if Im on fire some nights/early hours

Sadsammy · 15/11/2020 00:10

F

Whenwillow · 15/11/2020 16:24

@Overseasmom100 I would recommend it.
I've been waking up burning hot, but not sweating. I always though sweating was a part of it but apparently not. I can also go from normal to overheated based on a random though which is odd (the sort of thought like a memory which might normally make me cringe slightly)

I thought about you all last night at 3am!! I would suggest a menopause night time thread but I think we're probably old wise enough to lay off the phones when we're trying to be asleep (mine goes off at 7pm and stays off)

Whenwillow · 15/11/2020 16:25

Ps I have a thermometer and have taken my temperature to rule out a fever, current times and all that, and it's always normal.

Overseasmom100 · 15/11/2020 16:43

@Whenwillow that's itnot sweats just wake up burning hot. I also thought it would be fushes and dripping wet just like when yr in tropical place but nope just burning hot and always at night!
