How many times do you wake in the night?

I must wake up
at least 4 or 5 times a night, usually for a wee, sometimes it's a hot flush that wakes me then I get up for a wee. I'm exhausted. I don't see excessively in the day, only at night. I'm 53, is this normal??

It's mad isn't it @Overseasmom100
I've always been the cold one but even in a cold English winter I'm currently constantly a bit too warm. Very little heating on at home, and then it's only for the cat's benefit 😂 DH has always been a warm sort, but not me!

CornflakeMum · 15/11/2020 17:09

Before I went on HRT I was like you - 4/5 times a night, up and down for wees, hot flushes.
HRT sorted it and I now mostly just wake once, about 5 - 5.30 for a wee.
Sometimes I get back to sleep, sometimes I don't.

If you don't want to go the HRT route, then some Vagifem from your GP may eliminate some of the bladder irritation which prompts the need for a wee?

Overseasmom100 · 15/11/2020 17:18

@Whenwillow we are 2 peas in a pod...me too always 'nesh' (cold) heating on all warm and snuggly even setting the heating on in the morning so the cat is warm in his bed in the kitchen (have even been known to put a warmish water bottle in his bed under his blanket Grin now...no chance that heatings hardly been on!!!!

Whenwillow · 15/11/2020 17:21

I can beat that overseas I bought an electric heated cat bed for mine who also spends his nights in the kitchen!
"Nesh"... where were you brought up? Excellent word!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 15/11/2020 17:25

once in a blue moon now I have Oestrogel and have also cut down on caffeine....I highly recommend both courses of action!

oneglassandpuzzled · 15/11/2020 17:30

Oestrogel helped me a lot too and the progesterone also works well.

There’s no need, for most women, to put up with broken nights and night sweats. It’s awful—I remember it well.

Overseasmom100 · 15/11/2020 22:56

Ha ha a Midlands word @Whenwillow
Ooo cat heated bed now that's an idea!!!!

Now almost 57. Wake up between 4 and 11 (I logged it) times a night to wee. Sweats off n on but that doesn't seem to be why I wake. Tried various things with GP but nothing helps.

Regular runner and enjoy sweating when I'm out for a 🏃‍♂️ but eating a slice of toast for breakfast makes me want to (& often do) open all the doors and windows and want to take my t shirt off. Wake up with a stiff back, hobbling around until I've done some pilates and/or taken anti inflammatories.

Who said menopause was great? Haven't had a period for years, but still waiting for that hooray moment.

MiddleOfThePack · 18/11/2020 08:53

Not sure where the 'male' emoticon came from?!

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/11/2020 09:05

Another wake up and then can't go back to sleeper.averaging 3-6 hours in run up to period can be as little as 2hours sleep.permenantly exhausted.been like this over 12 months.im 48

user1471538283 · 21/11/2020 17:36

I'm usually awake once in the night for a wee but before HRT I would wake up 3 times a night soaked through. It is miserable. I can be exhausted and not sleep though if I'm upset or anxious

Ibizafun · 21/11/2020 23:37

I’m 53 and have been on bio identical HRT for 5 years but still wake after 4 hours and have had enough. Also itching as soon as I go to bed. Have just started taking an extra progesterone tablet at night and it has made all the difference, am sleeping right through.

DahliaMacNamara · 22/11/2020 23:31

About 3 or 4 usually. Not hot; in fact I usually have a hot water bottle next to me. Once I'm awake I can't go back to sleep until I've emptied my bladder, which of course wakes me up even more...If I let my brain go into action, I'll lie awake with the fear for the rest of the night, so I keep a book and my phone nearby to distract me.

Ginandplatonic · 22/11/2020 23:37

4 - 5 times here as well. 🙄 Often can’t get back to sleep for a few hours after the 3am wake up. I don’t have hot flushes as such but don’t seem to be able to regulate my temperature at night - too hot, too cold, duvet off, duvet on, leg out, leg in and repeat. Can’t take HRT but like a pp no alcohol helps.
