I've got to 6 and 8 months and then gone back to 2 months, now it was 5 months and then I felt really ill one day and then got a tiny bleed the same day and then a full on period the next day.

I'm in my mid 50s so will be glad when this finally ends.

Often depends on what age your mums stopped, so use that as a guide also?

DramaAlpaca · 20/06/2020 21:10

I'm honestly not sure. I had a Mirena coil put in at 46 and it stopped my periods completely. Eventually got it taken out two years ago, at 54. I kept my fingers crossed hoping I wouldn't have another period and two years later I still haven't, so I'm happy enough that I'm out the other side now. It does feel a bit odd that I don't know exactly when they stopped, but I'm relieved that they have.

Fearofawelshplanet · 20/06/2020 21:12

I am 43, my mum stopped at this age, I have gone 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, I have had 2 in one month, the last one was horrendous after 6 months and then 9 weeks ago I had awful brown discharge bit that was it. I really hope I am done now. I still get the mood swings the hot sweats the insomnia and a sore throat still. And the tiredness. I hope you are done soon.

billybagpuss · 20/06/2020 21:14

I’m on 5 months and will be gutted if I get another one, like you it goes a good length of time then the bugger comes back.

Pipandmum · 20/06/2020 21:16
  1. I think I had my last one on my birthday. It was light and I hadn't had one for some months before. I think it was about two or three years of increasing irregular periods, heavy and shorter at first then much lighter. Luckily no other symptoms!

My Mum's stopped all of a sudden when she was 5 years younger than I am now, she had no hot flushes, no symptoms, no nothing, they just stopped and never came back.

Around 50-51

wendywoopywoo222 · 20/06/2020 21:33

Mine stopped age 46. Was having them regularly and then I just never had any more.

BooseysMom · 20/06/2020 21:38

Funny you get a sore throat. I've got one all the time now and put it down to hay fever but maybe it's peri. I'm 48 and find everything utterly exhausting esp. getting upstairs. I honestly feel like I'm 80! I don't get the night sweats much but get just about every other symptom..and now i can add sore throat to the list!

I had a very early menopause and it was all done by 39 . Early menopause can run in families so it might be worth finding out when your mother had hers.

quarentini · 20/06/2020 22:09

I was 36 when my periods stopped.
My mother was 34 so I knew there was a chance of early menopause.

patchysmum · 20/06/2020 22:18

54 and still waiting for a hot flush

lootsharks · 21/06/2020 03:47

I was hoping that at 55 they'd have gone Confused

My womb is playing period roulette at the moment. Months of nothing then a sneaky little reminder.....hoping it will give it up soon. Am 53.

LovingLen · 21/06/2020 04:10

I was about 45, DM was about 60, so like mother, like daughter wasn't true in my case. I just had hot flushes for about a year so not too bad.

lootsharks · 21/06/2020 04:30

60 ?! Noooooo !

LovingLen · 21/06/2020 04:38

Yes, I was quite shocked and expected the worst, then mine happened a bit early. I'm sure there was a thread on here and a couple of people were about 60, I'm sure yours must be near the end OP as they as so irregular.

Weenurse · 21/06/2020 04:43

55 and still going.

Spidey66 · 21/06/2020 04:47

49, but that was following a hysterectomy.

My ovaries were left behind. They tend to do this if you've not been through the menopause when you've had the op, as the oestrogen they produce protects against osteoporosis. You generally have other symptoms within 5 years. I've not had hot flushes or mood swings but have vaginal dryness, loss of libido and occasional migraines.

Spidey66 · 21/06/2020 04:47

Ps am nearly 54 now.

ivykaty44 · 21/06/2020 05:27

46 sparodic bleeding for 6 weeks and then nothing ever again

rosie1959 · 21/06/2020 05:38

I was 59 my mum was around this age and my grandmother was 60

Fearofawelshplanet · 21/06/2020 06:39

Yes, I'm 43 and had tubal ligation at 31, after my twins. So between that and my mom going through it at 43, I am absolutely hoping I'm done. I had to go to hospital for a blood test my stomach pain was so bad last time. But been fine since. Good luck to all going through it, hope we are all done soon.

MaidenMotherCrone · 21/06/2020 07:02

Almost 53 and still having periods as regular as clockwork 🙁. Mother and sisters all had hysterectomies before reaching menopause so I have no idea how long this may go on for.

Given the average age is 51 I'm guessing I'm not average then.

Oblomov20 · 21/06/2020 07:42

This thread has helped. I realised the other day that I hadn't had a period for 2 months.

Plus I'm so dog tired. I don't want to do anything. Saying that, I've been like that my whole life, which all Doctors dismiss, which I find very insulting.
