Why the hell is it over on Gransnet?

Not happy

I agree Katy. I started meno age 29. I'm 45 now and been on HRT since I was 36. I'm definitely a long way from being a gran.

Come on mnhq.

KatyMac · 13/08/2019 22:05

It's ageist

OP posts:
Notwatchingtvtoday · 13/08/2019 22:06

I agree

KatyMac · 13/08/2019 22:07

I have been on mn since 2003 and I am mortally offended

IF I was a gran I'd have pearls to clutch

KatyMac · 13/08/2019 22:08

I demand that menopause is placed firmly back into MN - this is not on

OP posts:
TipTopAllOverTheShop · 13/08/2019 22:09

Agreed

Bubbletrouble43 · 13/08/2019 22:11

I'm 44 a mother of toddlers and perimenopausal... I dare anyone to call me granny...

KatyMac · 13/08/2019 22:11

Tbh I'm not sure gransnet should even exist but that's another argument

They might as well put parents of teens over on GN

OP posts:
KatyMac · 13/08/2019 22:14

Messing with my meds and sidelining my problems as they are "due to my age"

The world better watch out - there will be armies of aggressive middleaged women fighting over fat quarters at Lid and accidentally killing politicians

OP posts:
ladygoingGaga · 13/08/2019 22:22

I’m mortified, struggling to even think of myself as middle aged, only 41 and on HRT after early menopause.
Come on MNHQ quickly rectify this Smile

justilou1 · 13/08/2019 22:23

I’m 47 and in the clutches of menopause. If anyone calls me a bloody grandmother, I’ll punch them with my sweaty fists!!!

Daddylonglegs1965 · 13/08/2019 22:24

As an older mum I am two years into Menopause I am a mum to two secondary school age teenagers so I associate myself with mumsnet as oppose to gransnet.

KatyMac · 13/08/2019 22:48

Not happy (can you tell?)

OP posts:
Fleetheart · 13/08/2019 22:51

I agree. Am 53 and a long way from joining gransnet . But am constantly
Hot flushing and being enraged. Need help. Soon.

Fatted · 13/08/2019 22:51

I wouldn't necessarily say being a grandmother is ageist though. Loads of grandma's at my DC school who are younger than me. They're probably not even perimenopausal yet.

KatyMac · 13/08/2019 22:55

So as menopause is equal opportunities age wise - why is it stuck in gransnet?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 13/08/2019 23:02

It's like saying arthritis or osteoporosis belong in gransnet and that's just pant!

OP posts:
TheQueensCousin · 13/08/2019 23:07

Okay so I'm 54 years young... menopausal AND have (Rheumatoid) arthritis but I'm certainly not old enough to be joining the GN brigade just yet 🙄😏

RosaWaiting · 13/08/2019 23:09

OP “I demand that menopause is placed firmly back into MN - this is not on”

Um, that’s where we are. On MN. I’m so confused right now.

WobblyLondoner · 13/08/2019 23:17

What is over on Gransnet? Can someone post a link?

But just to be clear, the menopause and HRT are not issues that only affect grandmothers! As if that should bloody need saying. Just look at the menopause board on this site for an example of how much engagement there is among all women.

DropZoneOne · 13/08/2019 23:34

All of the links above direct to gransnet, as well as the article by Dr Louise Newson linked on an article on gransnet. I'm 45 with an 11yo (it's a bundle of hormone-induced fun here at Chez Drop) - I'm certainly not a granny!

I don't think it helps the perception that the menopause is for "old" women. If 51 is the average age, and peri lasts for 5-10 years, getting peri symptoms in your late 30s or early 40s is normal. Raising awareness amongst the MN core community would help hugely - i honestly thought i was going crazy until i found a thread on peri brain fog and everything made sense.

Come on Mumsnet, give us our own menopause section and stop directing us over to GN i don't like the font over there

BackforGood · 14/08/2019 00:21

I too, am confused
Ive never looked on Gransnet. Indeed I'm on MN now, in the topic area of Menopause.........

Confused
PickAChew · 14/08/2019 00:25

It's on gransnet because most grandmothers are menopausal.

Mum of teens going through menopause, but not going to complain about it being a thing on gransnet because i dont have a monopoly.

PickAChew · 14/08/2019 00:28

I have cousins my age who have been grandmothers for a while. This thread is quite ridiculous.

JaneJeffer · 14/08/2019 00:31

Who said it was only for grandmothers? We are still on Mumsnet aren't we?
