I wash it every other day, it's got a nasty musty smell. Anyone else?

Do you properly blow dry it , so that it is 100% dry?

Bigonesmallone3 · 25/03/2019 20:02

Are you drying your towels properly?

BWcastle2000 · 25/03/2019 20:04

Are you suffering from night sweats?

Baconislife · 25/03/2019 20:09

Mine smells also.. has done for 3years.
Bloody menopause

jayho · 25/03/2019 21:29

I have night sweats and would wash every day but I've also got two smallish children (don't get me started on the delaying motherhood thing) I have menopause, single parenthood , full time job and fekkin 10yo and adolescent to deal with in the morning. Hair not generally a priority but noticed it smells in last 4 weeks

I had a wierd phase where my hands smelt different. Menopause - it’s just odd.

jayho · 25/03/2019 21:37

See, that's the thing, is it only
Me that can smell this? Gah!!!!!

cushioncovers · 25/03/2019 21:43

What does it smell of?

user1494670108 · 25/03/2019 21:51

I've noticed an odd dusty/ musty smell sometimes that I couldn't identify where it was coming from. I'll check my hair next time but it sounds like it's (yet another) menopause thing.

Reaa · 25/03/2019 21:53

Its called smelly hair syndrome

kazzymac · 25/03/2019 21:55

I had this too.
No matter how much I washed it, my hair smelt like a wet dog when drying it so
I googled it and it said it was hormonal. Mine seemed to occur when I was suffering from night sweats but these have eased a little and the smell has vastly reduced.

Reaa · 25/03/2019 21:56

Smelly Hair Syndrome (SHS) occurs when you have overactive sweat and oil glands on your scalp. When the skin on your scalp secretes too much oil and sweat, it can start to smell quickly. More often than not, it’s a hormonal imbalance that causes this problem. Seeing a dermatologist is often the best solution. You may need to start taking a prescription medication designed to even out your hormone levels.

Angryanother potential hell to endure, I am incredibly unimpressed with peri menopause!

Justmuddlingalong · 25/03/2019 22:02

I'm late 40s and a while ago noticed a fusty smell. The horror I felt when I realised it was how my mum and aunties smelt when I was a child. Personal hygiene is so important, especially when you're sweating during the night.

jayho · 25/03/2019 22:03

Wet dog! Can everyone else smell it? What fresh hell etc ....

OP posts:
jayho · 25/03/2019 22:05

It's like my hair doesn't pick up the scent of my shampoo or conditioner anymore it just smells odd

OP posts:
jayho · 25/03/2019 22:06

If it wafts over my face I get this earthy oily scent ShockConfused

kazzymac · 25/03/2019 22:08

It was definitely more noticeable when I was drying my hair rather than all the time.
I asked my friend to sniff my hair and she couldn't smell anything-thankfully Smileso I think I was just very self conscious of it. As I said with the night sweats reducing the smell went too.

Justmuddlingalong · 25/03/2019 22:10

Are you also changing your bedding regularly? Because if you sweat in bed and then don't shower or have a bath, then the smell will be noticeable.

NoShitHemlock · 25/03/2019 22:20

I didn't realise this was a "thing"!!! Seriously - I gave up smoking nearly 3 months ago, and have only recently noticed my hair smells weird (obvs I had only really been smelling shampoo or smoke or perfume previously). And I am definitely peri-menopausal (tho don't tell anyone cos I don't look that old Wink...dontcha know being fat means you don't get wrinkly Grin )

kazzymac · 25/03/2019 22:20

Sorry I also forgot to say a small thing that helped was scraping my hair up like a pineapple on top of head when I go to bed.

justasking111 · 25/03/2019 22:25

Between my boobs I notice a smell sometimes, it doesn`t help that they are stuck in a bra all day, then I get the night sweats. Menopause is awful.

kazzymac · 25/03/2019 22:29

Justasking - yep me too!
It's bloody awful isn't it
I feel like a smelly old bag Confused

YorkieTheRabbit · 25/03/2019 22:41

Op, have you tried using a dry shampoo for the days you don’t wash your hair? It might help Smile
