hysteroscopy

Hi all
i have to have this done under ga to remove a polyp
Has anyone any experience of having this done?
Did things go back to normal straight after?
I have a5yr old dd to take care of altjough my dp will take at least the day of op off
Was all ok after having it done?
Was anything else needed to be done ie put on any meds etc?

You should be okay but the biggest issue will be the GA- you might not be fit to drive for 24-36 hours.
I had it done but with nothing- I refused a GA and agreed to use of a local if I found it too painful. I didn't have a polyp but had a biopsy done at the same time.
You might have a tiny bit of bleeding afterwards (I didn't) and a tiny bit of period type pain- but nothing much at all.

i dont drive so that wont affect me
Im having a ga as i get pain on intercourse,smears etc so they said that would be better for me
So youre able yo lift etc afterwards?

You can do everything you could before you had it done. It's a tiny camera the size on the end smaller than a straw- I know, I looked!
They push it gently through the cervix so it's not much different to a smear test really.

I had this done last month, not under GA. It was a bit uncomfortable but no real pain. I could do everything normally afterwards. I would be more concerned about the GA - I had one a couple of years ago for a minor op, and couldn't believe how wiped out I felt for about 4 days afterwards. I've had GAs before (many years ago) so hadn't anticipated it. Mentioned it after three days to a GP friend to check if it was normal and she said I'd been more affected this time because of my age, made me feel so much better

I had one hysteroscopy without anaesthetic. Whilst I wouldn't rub my hands with glee at the thought of one it was actually easier than a smear tbh. I was planning on working later in the day but decided against it and took my dog for a long walk through the woods instead.

I've also had one with a GA. The GA is more of an issue and I wouldn't drive or work the same day but tbh it will be so quick and light you shouldn't be that affected. As for bleeding..it's less than a period

I am sure you will be fine to cope but plan a quiet couple of days

Am hoping dd will be at school so at least if i do feel crappy i can sleep or watever all day!lol

I don't mind you asking at all, baby. I was in my early 40s. The one I had before that was when I was 31, and I don't remember it being an issue, the one I had a few years ago knocked me out for about 4 days, the kids were at school so i slept during the day but i had to ask a friend to bring them home for me because I couldn't walk the (very short) distance to the school to get them - I was too afraid I'd fall over or wander into the road!

You won't feel pain and will be able to lift but expect to feel wiped out from the GA for up to a week.

Ive read up on it&some sites say you get some pain/cramping for day or2&others say you wont feel much at all so guess i will find out for sure when i have it done!lol
Gyny said i may get some light bleeding&cramping for day or2&that recovery may take bit longer cuz im having something removed

Did any of you have it done for polyp removal?

I had this a couple of years ago and had two polyps removed. I didnt have any anaesthetic at all and drove myself home, and was fine afterwards. Mild cramps for an hour or so then nothing.

But a GA would make me feel pretty wiped out for a few days.

The best thing was that after almost continual bleeding for years- presumaby from the polyps I had no bleeding between periods at all and in fact only had two more periods then menopause.

My friend had a polyp removed and was fine afterwards. It's not a big procedure and probably only takes about 10 minutes in all so the GA will be light.
I'd almost rather put up with anything than have a GA when not necessary but everyone is different.
My hysteroscopy took 30 minutes because my cervix was tight and the dr had to go slowly....but there was no pain other than lying on your back like a stranded beetle for 30 mins! I had no bleeding after it even though they took a biopsy too.

I find sex,smears etc painful so gyny said ga will be best for me
Its also good that99%of polyps are benign according to my gyny,though some can have cancer cells so they will send it away to chk theres nowt nasty as he put it

I've had polyps removed twice. It's great when they're gone and you don't have to worry about bleeding all the time anymore.

I had a hysteroscopy for a huge polyp and tumour removal.

The idea of it was much worse than the procedure itself. I felt fine afterwards, just rested for a couple of days. I don't remember any pain but I'm sure I had some good pain relief so make sure you have some too.

I remember waking up and being aware of lots of pads underneath me but was really surprised to see barely any blood on the pads.

They sent everything away to check for cancerous cells but all was fine. My doctor told me everything looked clear underneath the materials removed anyway so that was reassuring straight away.

yea it is a bit.apart from3miscarriages ive had ive nevwr had to have any sort of gyny op before
So i guess its a bit of a fear of the unknown really

How long did it take to get results bk from lab?

As far as I know they haven't come back. I have had a baby in the three years since I had it done. I did ask whether they would scan me afterwards to check nothing has come back and the dr said no, only if I have symptoms again.

It took a week for the results to come back. I had back of leg pain, irregular bleeding, really heavy periods and anaemia so was expecting the worst. Apparently a minute percentage have any dodgy cells so try not to worry about that.

I've had this, felt wiped out by general anaesthetic,( I was 52) but apart from that , very straightforward. The consultant came to see me after the op and talked through what he had done, had several polyps removed ( 4 years ago now) no problems since

Pre ops on27th november&polyp op is on29th nov
So we see how that goes!
