Hot Flushes and Nausea?

Witco · 13/08/2013 10:03

I'm 48, have had a mirena coil for 3 years so i don't get periods any more. I have begun to get hot flushes and feel knackered and nauseous. Could this be the start of the menopause? I wasn't expecting the nausea part and I was very sick last night, although I had the same dinner as the rest of my family. Anyone else has this?

No and not heard of it. sounds maybe more like a tummy bug? There is one going around at the moment.

Witco · 13/08/2013 20:30

That would be better!

Nausea has been one of my worst menopausal symptoms - it's one of the reasons I've just started HRT.

Witco · 15/08/2013 18:44

Thanks Latest, I thought I was going mad! It's a bit like morning sickness

Funny how we are all so different.
HRT made me feel I had morning sickness, until I sorted out the dose and divided it between am and pm! Sudden input of oestrogen- just like when pregnant.

valiumredhead · 15/08/2013 19:05

I get the morning sickness feeling thing, it's awfulSad

MyLatestNameChange · 15/08/2013 20:15

I never had morning sickness when pregnant so this has knocked me for six.

Valium - do you find that any of the morning sickness remedies (ginger tea or whatever) work for this?

valiumredhead · 15/08/2013 20:34

Peppermint tea helps!

MyLatestNameChange · 15/08/2013 20:36

Right, I'll try it. I feel pretty desperate sometimes.

valiumredhead · 16/08/2013 08:14

I don't like it at all-the nausea not the tea-but am reluctant to try hrt just yet.

missbopeep · 16/08/2013 08:24

TBH I really think you should see your GP about feeling sick. I know that some women here are reporting this symptom but I've not known anyone else in RL mention it and it's not listed as a symptom in any of the menopause 'bibles' written by drs- though having said that 'gut' problems are listed meaning diarrhea, bloating and constipation. The remedies are listed as changing lifestyle- reducing stress- cutting out fatty and processed foods, and drinking more water.

Might be worth looking at what you tend to eat or drink last thing at night, if you eat too late, go to bed hungry, etc.

It took a long while for the penny to drop with me, that the nausea and sickness I have been experiencing for the last couple of years started when my periods stopped. After years of other treatments and investigations, which have had only partial success, I asked the consultant gastroenterologist and my GP whether it could be menopause-related. Both said it was quite likely, as there are oestrogen receptors on the gut.

I haven't read the 'bibles', and have made some dietary changes anyway, but am waiting to see whether the HRT helps.

valiumredhead · 16/08/2013 09:13

It's a very common symptom.

missbopeep · 16/08/2013 09:15

Be interesting to see because it's usually too much oestrogen that causes the sicky feeling, as in morning sickness. I could understand nausea during peri as sometimes the ovaries go into overdrive and push out more oestrogen as they pack up- but hope you get some relief anyway.

Hi, I have been experiencing this as well together with very sore boobs, I have googled and both can be menopausal symptoms. I haven't had any serious hot flushes yet but have had some where I have felt very hot in bed and had to fling the bedclothes off. Also have very low sex drive, dry skin, have gained weight, have sore/achy feet, dry hair, Bit of a mess really!! Might look into getting some supplements and am going to see a local gym to enrol on this bodyblast programme they do, it is diet/exercise help with coaching, I do badly need help!! I will also see my GP. I have mirena fitted so no periods for a couple of years but hard to know if it's that or the menopause. Either way I hate it!!

Witco · 16/08/2013 21:56

Teeny, I have been doing the "flinging off bedclothes" thing too! Nausea has settled down in the past few days but the hot flushes have stayed. Bracing myself for the night seats, etc!

Hi I too suffer from nausea usually just as a hot flush appears - I have suffer a lot of the symptoms listed by members from flushes to panics and mood swings. I just wondered if those of you who have posted symptoms can tell us how you are getting on so that we can get through this tough menopause. Thank you would love to hear. Geri x

I've loitered in health good shops and read the labels on various potions but not bought anything yet! Black Cohosh (sp?) looks interesting but has anyone had success with it? God, I'm sick of these flushes and it's only been a few weeks!

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 23/08/2013 20:44

Not used it but have heard good things about it. Worth a go.

RippingYarns · 23/08/2013 21:01

i've put it on my shopping list too

thanks Witco

Witco · 24/08/2013 19:28

I gave in today and bought some Menosan (tincture of sage), which the woman in the shop recommended. 15 to 20 drops in water 3 times daily and tastes okay. Will keep you posted!
