my...um...memory is shot to pieces

Seriously, at this rate I'm going to misplace a child or forget something vital. I forget something every single time I go to the shops.

I'm usually able to remember all our appointments + lists in my head. These days I have to keep checking what day it is.

I make lists to combat this, then lose them or leave them behind on the table. I went shopping this morning, and there are already 6 things written on my board that I should have remembered.

Maybe we need to design some kind of wearable note pad so we can write things down the moment we think of them and we can't lose them.

I walk to the kitchen to write a note and forget why I've gone in there, then I get distracted by the kids anyway .

I stand gormlessly staring into the fridge/freezer/cupboard trying to remember what I went there for. Then give up and go back to what I was doing so that it will trigger my stupid brain. This sometimes happens twice

I once went to the shop then got home and realised i'd left the cheese on the counter.

Went back to the shop to ask for the cheese, 4 mins of CCTV later it turns out I hadn't bought any cheese in the first place

Oh thank god its not just me.

I have seriously been worrying I have early onset dementia.

Made a GP appointment to discuss it, wrote it in diary....forgot to check in diary.

I forget where I've put my lists though, and if I write a trigger word or not, I forget what I meant.

Can I ask how old everyone is? I do worry i'm losing my memory and i'm only 25.

I went out the other day and left the front door unlocked! This is not the first time either.

It seems to be a symptom of the peri menopause :( I have it too, but also have ME which is why I didn't notice when it started, but memory got so much worse in the last couple of years.

I'm 49, but I do know of someone who had completely gone through to her menopause at age 27, so although I guess it's rare, early menopause does happen.

I used to have a memory; I kept it in my brain
I stored things in there safely, and retrieved them without strain
But now I?m getting older; things aren?t so nice and fine
I note the things of interest and file them line by line
And when they are next needed, the index fails ? so sorry
I?ve no working memory; but an excellent forgettory

Love that Katymac ! Mine's shot too, not helped that my Mum has recently been diagnosed with Dementia. She forgets things but says it's me ans sounds really convincing.

I've had bloods done to see what my hormones ar doing and am going to GP tomorrow to get results, if I remember.

Solo, having been through this who,e memory thing with Mum there are lots of things that can cause memory loss - vitamin deficiencies, thyroid issues and lots more. It would be an idea to have a chat with your GP but don't panic, it's probably something very simple.

Anyone else also find they have suddenly become very clumsy? Eg breaking glasses, spilling drinks, knocking stuff over ?

Yes, me. I started Menopace Plus 2 days ago and hoping I will miraculously return to normal shortly (in my dreams). You know how everyone says you get through it ? Do you return to normal or will I always need to make lists and carry tissues in case my eyes randomly leak ?

I'm 39. My memory has been bad for a few months now.

I'm roping in favours from family so I can run errands without the kids in tow, gives me a fighting chance of remembering everything.

Numberlock I've always been quite clumsy, but over the last few years it has got worse.

I started HRT last year, hoping for miraculous results, it did help my tropical moments but I still have all the other symptoms. Going for a review next week.

I was very disappointed I didn't get the spring chicken effect like many of my friends have!

I am really clumsy. The other morning I managed to smash a glass and spill a drink within 5 mins of each other.

My DD (4) makes comments about my clumsiness.

Do you think I should be worried?

Can I ask what type of contraception you are taking? I was in cerazette and aside from the feeling psychotic, I also had with appalling memory loss.

I don't take anything at all.

Thank god it's not just me! Like you Meglet I used to be bale to hold numerous lists and dates in my head - but cannot do that now! I had mad thoughts of doing an A level to keep my brain in gear, but the thought of trying to remember stuff to regurgitate on an exam paper sent me quite dizzy. (The though of sitting an exam as a nearly 50 year old with a bunch of teenagers also made me a bit , so I decided not to bother).

How about lists tattooed onto the inside of your eyelids?

I work with a young male yeacher, I'm his CA. last week he presented me,with a notebook to wear around my neck

I use my phone for notes, I have downloaded a diary, a planner and notenook on to it.

I have become really clumsy, knocking things over or things falling out of my hands. The worse thing is I'm already on HRT

If it makes anyone feel better I actually put the wrong type of fuel in my car the other week! Never done that before in 27 years of driving.

yoni Maybe we need one of those Google glass thingys? We could speak our lists into them and they would always be there in front of us.

There was me thinking it was a pointless geeky toy and now I can see a future for it assisting menopausal women!

me too, everything is going in the phone now, shopping list, to do list, calendar. it's my first smartphone and keeps me very entertained ( plus I. can mumsnet! )

I'm another with a memory that's failing.

I use the alarm on my phone for all sorts - at the moment its got alarms set for various points in the week to remind me to:
-get DS to take his trainers for after-school club
-pick up friends DS from school Tuesday
-DDs orthodontist appt.
-book annual leave with boss
