Does anyone take Climagest?

Am having a premature menopause and started taking this today.

Any experience on it? Am just hoping I will not have so many flushes and hoping my bone density stays the same. Slightly nervous after reading the side effects associated but, I assume, they would be more or less the same with all/most HRT?

Is this the one in the blue round packet? If so, my neighbour started taking it recently for prem menopause and feels great. No side effects and has cured her aching bones and sleepless nights.

This is a hot topic for us both recently - hope you're ok.

Started taking climagest 1mg 4 days ago in the hope of beating the hot flushes and night sweats, not noticed anything happening as yet.. Originally thought about a month or so before things would balance out, but as some women seem to have results within 24/48hrs am now wanting action..!! Any advice??

I took it for a while. It was towards the end of the first pack before I noticed any improvement in symptoms. By the end of the third pack it had reestablished periods which had been absent for two years.

I gave up after five packs on the grounds that I preferred hot flushes and sleepless nights to periods and weight gain. I also didn't like paying two prescription charges

I'm considering going to my new GP to discuss alternatives though.

Jins HRT does not give you periods back. What it does do is give you a monthly bleed- like the Pill- which is part of the course of tablets.

If you are over 54 then many drs will prescribe a no-bleed HRT.

Ok I used the wrong word. What it did was give me monthly bleed lasting ten days. Swollen breasts too.

I was given climagest as a no bleed preparation as well by my genius of a gp.

How are you getting on with the Climagest?
Just to say the side efects are not the same with each HRT - different women react to different HRT preparations very differently so if it's not suiting you then it's likely that another one will!

If you are having a premature menopause I expect you are under 40 - and I wondered what dose of Climagest you are taking? If it suits you, in view of your age hopefully they are giving you the higher dose (2 mg) to protect your bones and limiting the severity of other symptoms.

I reluctantly started taking Climagest 6wks ago after suffering from the Menopause for 2/3 yrs as hot flushes night sweats weight gain mood swings etc were making my life hell & I became quite suicidal & very very depressed. My mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer this time last yr so was totally against HRT but I'm so glad my GP finally convinced me to "just give it a try" because within 4 days of taking Climagest the black cloud had lifted slightly & I began to feel "normal" again & 6wks later I would like to say that Climagest has changed my life, for the better so please, ladies, don't suffer unnecessarily as the chances of developing Breast Cancer through HRT is very slim, just don't stay on it for longer than you need to.

I have to agree with Jaylatina666 - I am 42 and have gone through the menopause - the flushes, night sweats, mood swings, lack of any kind of sex drive at all etc stopped within 24/48 hours of taking my first pill.
Just to be able to sleep through the night was fantastic - and not to mention I got my sex drive back in full force and all else seems to be going well.
I have put on about 2lbs - but I think thats because I am working from home - so am much near the fridge than normal. But I am sure I can lose that - as I am not entirely sure the pill is to blame for it!

My doctor recently told me that it will take 2 to 3 months for the Climagest to fully kick in. Meanwhile ask your doctor about Dixarit to get over the hump.

When I first started having bad symptoms of menopause, my doctor in Belgium did a blood test. While waiting for the results she prescribed me the herbal supplement of Black Cohosh (80mg in the evening) because she said that some women report that it relieves their symptoms and it won't hurt to use it until we get confirmation.

Well, we quickly got confirmation of peri-pause (levels not enough to go for full on menopause treatments yet) and she then also started me on Dixarit 25mcg (Clonidine 2 or 3 times daily). I kept taking the Black Cohosh mostly because I had it. Well between the two things my symptoms got much better (I have never tried taking the Dixarit on its own, but I strongly suspect it was the main provider of my relief.)

Since I have returned to Scotland my new doctor says that I have progressed far enough to begin HRT - Climagest 1mg (estradiol valerate/norethisterone) in the AM. I have instructions to continue the Dixarit for about 3 months until the Climagest takes full effect, then I can discontinue it. I forgot to ask him about the Black Cohosh.

Does anyone know of any reason for me to continue the Black Cohosh once I finish my current supply, or am I just being silly...?

(I am 49 and still bleed occasionally, but maybe only once every 6 or 7 months for the past 3 years.)

Forget the Cohosh. I would stop it now (depending on how long you've been taking it). Its long term safety has not been sufficiently tested and is in question I understand. Nor has it's efficacy in alleviating symptoms been proven scientifically againsy libido. Since it is not recommended to take it for longer than 6 months due to safety concerns it is unlikely to be tested properly anyway. Some other drugs such as Clonidine and including anti-depressants, reduce hot flushes so this is what will have been making you feel better.

Please help!! Is this normal? I am 50 have just started on Climagest 1mg. (5 days ago) I have been suffering with hot flushes and night sweats for a few weeks. My brilliant GP put me on HRT immediately because my mum and both of my older sisters have osteoporosis. When my oldest sister died in January the autopsy showed the level of osteoporosis she had but also the fact she had lost 6 inches in height. My GP has wasted no time because of my family history. I do not drink alcohol and I do not smoke. Yet since I started on the Climagest I am REALLY bad tempered! light headed, still have the hot flushes which have gotten worse and very, very forgetful! Is this what it's like? does it get worse before it gets better? I don't want to keep running to the GP and changing things.

Hello Ratty, sorry I have just seen your message. When I started on Climagest it took approx a month to feel the benefits but I did start to feel more myself after approx a week.

I took Climagest for a while but switched to another of the combination type pills. Generally I feel better for HRT - I was not sleeping well because of waking hot flushes and also felt very thirsty at night, which meant drinking water to cool down - but that also meant trips to the loo and more waking.

I seemed to be having diifficulty with leg cramps on Crlimagest . This is not a common side-effect, but I switched anyway. I don't like the bleeds much but it is the lesser of two evils, and I think my age means I should be able to take the one-tablet-only sort of HRT quite soon.

I'm on day 4 of Climagest, and I'm wondering if I should just go back to my herbal tablets instead. (Black Cohosh and Evening Primrose oil)

I'm 42 and haven't had a period for a year now, the doc put me on Climagest as I am at risk of Brittle bone disease. But it's day four and I feel sick and so moody! I want to thump someone, it's like having PMT all over again. I suffer with depression and Evening primrose oil helped me through that greatly. Plus I take Fluoxetine for my depression.
I read that one of the side effects of Climagest is depression and feeling sick, so I am worried I'm going to fall into depression again.

Should I give Climagest more time or give it up? How much longer will it take for the sickness to go?

I wondered about the depression and then I thought it could be classed as a side effect because when you start taking it a menopause symptom could be depression too

Hi Im 44 and have had my 1st tablet of Climagest today. Ive had to get something, i cant believe how confused i am. Teary and not knowing why, no sleep, so ratty its untrue! and hot sweats. Im wondering how long this will take to work. Not impressed with having to pay 2 perscription charges though. Be so nice to have someone thats in the same boat. Everyone around me is younger, or a lot older and they cant remember how they felt. Im sooo low. :(

I took Climagest 1mg for a month back in the summer. I'm only 38 but my doctor believes that I might be in perimenopause. I found that my vaginal dryness disappeared within 2 days, my boobs grew about 2 cup sizes within the first week of taking it, which was great! Also, I felt sexier! It didn't stop my mood swings, but then I only took it for a month so didn't really give it a chance to work properly. I stopped it after the month because one night I woke up with a start having the most horrendous palpitations, it was the worst panic attack ever. I had been suffering from panic attacks and palpitations anywhere which are most likely due to the menopause but this particular episode really scared me. On the leaflet inside the box it listed palpitations as a possible side effect, so I put the awful attack I had down to the climagest. However, this wasn't the only reason I stopped - I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year with no success and when the doctor prescribed me the climagest, me being the daft mare that I am, thought the pills might actually help me conceive as they were replacing the hormones in my body which I was loosing. I thought that if my estrogen levels were topped up I would then fall pregnant! Sadly that didn't happen. I would like to give the Climagest another try in the future as I don't think I gave it long enough to work properly. First though I am going down the fertility route in my quest to have a baby. It's all very crap having to take HRT when you're under 45 isn't it, I thought menopause didn't kick in until the late 40s early 50s. How bloody wrong I was !!

Thanks erilou38 ive been on it 3 days now and only very slight changes, unfort not in my moods swings. I will however stay on it for sometime and give it the chance to work. I must admit i was of the same thinking and thought the menopause started late 40's into 50's so was a bit of a shock. I just new i felt totally different so got it checked. Well i wish you luck with conceiving :)

Personally id give it longer to work, as the sickness might subside. You might start to feel great benefits from the hrt. My doc also gave me the same tablets for depression last year, and im wondering now if i was pre-menopausal then and not just depressed. If you dont give them a chance to work you wont know. :)

i have been taking the 1mg tablet for 11 days.i certainly dont feel any better maybe a little worse.my flushes during the day are shorter but more frequent and last night I flushed every 20 minutes .i feel washed out my bones are sore and generally feel like bursting in to tears ,any words of wisdom for me please

Hi everyone, I have just taken 4 Climagest tablets and I have just had a bleed. I thought the doctor said this would happen at the end not the beginning, but then I wasn't really listening when he mentioned HRT to me. cAn anyone help?

Hi, I was told on Thursday by my doctor, that he thinks I need HRT to fight my constant tiredness. I have now had 4 Climagest tablets and today I have started to bleed. I thought he said that I would have this at the end of the end of the tablets not the beginning. Can anyone please help?
