Okay, for all those that begged for a tuesday on the february meet-up thread .... the next city lunch will be at Pizza Pomodoro - very close to Liverpool St Station, 5 minutes walk from Moorgate. Date - Tuesday 15th March at 12:30.

Anybody welcome, just post here to confirm.

Slight hijack - but Sponge - what happened with your ski trip in the end - did ds make it??

DickWhittingtonsCat · 01/03/2005 14:29

I got the 100 last time but you could also get the 11. As usual I can't make it this time because of work but when are we going to have after work drinks? Irrelevantly, what is the contemporary etiquette about letting men pay for lunch/ drinks/ etc, I mean interesting men whom you are seeing socially? If you both know that he is earning a lot less than you right now, isn't it mean of you just to let him keep paying? Also, I don't really like always choosing the cheapest thing because someone else is paying, but can't bring myself to choose expensive things when someone else is paying. OTOH when he is on a professional income with no dependants, it looks really mean spirited if you keep preventing him from making a kind generous gesture; also one friend says that it is unfeminine not to let him pay always . The first time he insisted on paying and I said OK but next time let me pay; then he had physically already paid whilst I was saying in words let me pay; and then the same thing happened but when we were leaving I said I felt bad and he said oh you can get it next time. So now he is away and I felt bad, so I sent him a book about the place he is going to as a gift, but now I am wondering whether he will see this as somehow insulting representing my debt because he is earning less. Conversely, if another man earns much much more than me, and seems to me extravagant compared to what I spend, is it OK for me to say I want eg cheaper theatre tickets etc than he might normally get, and to what extent should I attempt to spend an equal amount on him as he might spend on me?

HBA, no we didn't get the passport so we left him behind .
My mum looked after him for the week and although I think she found it quite tiring and was glad when it was over I think she also enjoyed being with him.
For our part we missed him like mad but also enjoyed being able to have afternoon naps and plenty of wine with dinner without fear of being woken up in the night.
We're going again in April and this time he's coming.

HandbagAddiction · 02/03/2005 13:31

Sponge - glad it all worked out in the end - even though you ended up leaving him here! And besides he gets to go next time...

dd got her first lift pass this time around when we went in early Feb including a photo!!. A 3vallees pass at 17 months old - quite impressive really given that she can't walk!!

beachyhead · 07/03/2005 11:37

anybody new in the City to join us next week!!!!!

Sponge · 07/03/2005 11:55

I know HBA. In val d'isere under 5s don't need a pass but we went to Meribel last year and dd was very proud of her pass and wore it all the time - even to bed . She'll need a val d'isere one next year which is dull as we'll have to pay for it.

dinosaur · 07/03/2005 12:02

DWC - sorry - can't help with your etiquette question - why don't you post a separate question about it? I haven't been on a date for, let me see, 19 years or so...

NotQuiteCockney · 07/03/2005 12:06

I probably can't, unless DS1 radically changes his sleeping patterns. Once he stops sleeping in the afternoon, I will put him in school full-time, and will be able to do this sort of thing. Hopefully soon.

Flossam · 07/03/2005 22:49

As lovely as it was to meet you all last time I won't be able to make this one, busy seeing grandparents this month and life is a little more hectic! I'll look out for the next one though, by which time DS will have doubled in size I'm sure, he is a piggy!!

Kayleigh · 09/03/2005 10:45

shame Flossam...hope you can make the next one.

Hey what Happened to Twinkie, she's a city girl isn't she, haven't seen her around for ages

Marina · 09/03/2005 15:30

Still on mat leave and with v. limited internet access at home Suzy. She has made a couple of the lunches since Max was born and shown him off though (not the ones I've attended )

Kayleigh · 09/03/2005 15:31

Hello Suzywong. You've probably managed to find the one thread that will stay argument free today . Twinkie is still off on maternity leave so she hardly posts at all. Anorak is in touch with her though and Twinkie and Max are doing really well.

(Walks off humming........I'm walking on sunshine whoooah hoh......)

Sponge · 09/03/2005 15:32

Ah, CD the invisible friend at city lunches.
Yes, where is Twinkie? I wanted to meet little twinklet.
