harrogatemum · 18/02/2005 12:46

its opposite Early Learning Centre and down a bit. I just walked past it half an hour ago and did notice that it has a step up to the door - will I fit my double buggy in to all the ladies who have been before? And tell me that we would be meeting on the ground floor!

azza · 18/02/2005 13:10

not just that harrogate mum - are they going to be happy with all our dear children toddling, screaming etc and bascially disturbing the other customers? im not saying my kids are really badly behaved but they do have their moments as most 2 and 3 year olds do.

you mums that have been in are they going to be ok with it

azza · 18/02/2005 13:15

foz

have signed up for your yahoo group - good idea

suzbro · 18/02/2005 14:41

I can't make that Friday cos my parents will be staying with me that weekend. I'll join the Yahoo group though and will hopefully meet you all another time.

harrogatemum · 18/02/2005 15:05

ps - isnt 3pm a bad time due to mums picking up their kids from school?

Plus I emailed the Harrogate mums group and it came back undeliverable - I might be stupid but am I doing something wrong?

Hi all-
Milan's has a room in the back which is up about 5 steps which has an area for kids to play/high dhairs/ micro for heating food/etc and there are always kids around. I've never had a issue and the staff are quite helpful with buggies. Also, 3pm should be a quiet time for customers but if you want to go somewhere else- please make a suggestion. It also seems a bit to cold to do anything outside (I thought of Harlow Carr Gardens but brrrrrr.....)

If you are still having problems with the group send an email to my private account [email protected] and I will set it up.

Hope you all are well-amy

LouBeeLou · 21/02/2005 12:40

Hi Harrogate/Yorkshire Mums!

Sorry to hijack this thread but I wondered if you could help me. I dont know if any of you have read the Employment thread on opening a restaurant in the UK, but for some reason, York and Harrogate seem to be standing out to us.

I just wanted to know a few details about the area. Do you think Harrogate or York need a great! restaurant with good food? Our aim, DH is the chef and I am front of house, would be to have a child friendly restaurant, with fine dining food. We would do childrens portions at a good rate and possibly have childrens cutlery and plates and boxes of juice. Also, jigsaws and crayons etc to entertain them and highchairs and changing area if possible.

There are a lot of restaurants around but I dont know the area well and wondered
a) where you would go to eat if you had to take the kids
b) are there too many of this sort of thing already?
c) cost of living in the area? We would be renting to start with...are the rents high?
d) schools any good?

We dont just want it to be child friendly but might try for earlier dining with children. I do like to go for dinner when there are no children about, and it could put others off it was predominantly child friendly so we would have to strike a balance somewhere. We need an 'edge' so that people would choose to come to us as opposed to another restaurant.

Hope you dont mind me hijacking. Please could you post on the Employment Topic...Opening a restaurant in the UK.....but where? TIA

Tetley · 24/02/2005 15:08

Collision - I'm in Leeds so can't answer the rent questions, but I do know that when we go tho both Harrogate or York for the day we've not yet found a reasonably priced, child frindly place for lunch. We always end up in a greasy spoon in York & BhS cafe in Harrogate. So personally I would say that yes, there is an opening.

Foz · 24/02/2005 15:49

Hi Collision-
Restaurants: My friend and I were just discussing how difficult it is to find somewhere to go for lunch with the boys. Our current choices are: Cafe Rouge, Milan's (has a kids area with toys, decent food), M&S (loads of parents eat/cuppa here), Pizza Express (kid friendly) and B.E.D. (small downstairs, no kids area but good food). That's it really except for places like Starbucks, Costa Coffee, Pizza Hut, McD's, and BHs. Am I missing any? There is an NCT book in Harrogate that lists all child friendly restaurants - maybe you could get that?

From my point of view, I think we need more options for good (non greasy cafe) daytime eating. There are a lot of restaurants only open in the evening. (BTW, it can be difficult to get evening reservations.)

Cost of Living - definitely higher than other parts of the North but it is a really nice place to live. As far as rent, check with online estate agents.

Schools- don't know yet (DS 17 months) but my nursery is absolutely fantastic and my neighbors speak highly of the schools.

HTH- Foz
