West London October meet-up

My attempt to discuss books on another thread has led to a suggestion for a night out in west London, so my arm has been twisted...The date suggested is Friday 18 October, probably in Richmond or Putney. It's not clear yet whether it will be a meal or a pub, any suggestions welcome. Anyone who would like to come is welcome. So far it's Willow2, bossykate and me. 30 November is just too long to wait!

I'm still coming so count me in please...like the name Willow, any witchy connections there?

agaazaa · 15/10/2002 12:19

Dear Fionn

I am in Hampshire, getting a train in is easy. No I have a 3 year old as well as a baby, will consider doing something on one of his nursery days (T/W)

What is the age group? 30 somethings?

Are these all people who are on maternity leave, or who have given up careers? Was it fun once you met everyone?

Willow2 · 15/10/2002 12:52

bettys - yes - think of our combined love of a certain Sky One programme and you'll be on the right track.
agaazaa - shame you can't arrange a sitter as the last meet up was a giggle. Suppose we were mainly 30 somethings - but some had stopped working, some were still working, some - for all I know - had never worked outside of the home. Also, if you aren't in the 30 something age bracket don't let that put you off - I've got mummy friends in their 20's and 40's and it makes no difference to me as we all seem to be equally barking.

ellasmum · 15/10/2002 12:57

Still keen to come - where in Putney is Ma Goa??

Looking forward to it - should be there by 7.30pm aswell.

Fionn · 15/10/2002 14:09

Ok I've just booked Ma Goa for 7.30pm on Friday for 8 people. (Thanks bossykate for reminding me we'd discussed Ma Goa last time. I've never been but it has good reviews) I said I'd confirm numbers on Thursday. They're at 244 Upper Richmond Road, tel. 8780 1767. From Putney train station head straight up the road towards Richmond. Don't know if it's on the left or right though. From East Putney tube turn left and carry on. Can everyone get there by 8pm? I'm happy to give my mobile phone no. if anyone wants to email me va mumsnet. It's booked under my real name which isn't a million miles away from my nickname, just anglicise it and you'll get it!

Willow2 · 15/10/2002 20:37

Fionn - should be able to get there for 8 or just gone. Also, if you're coming from Putney/East Putney station it's on the right hand side of the road.

SofiaAmes · 15/10/2002 22:45

ooh i am so excited. good spicy food, good company AND i get to leave dh at home with 4 of his 5 kids! (for the newcomers - only 2 are mine) I'm tempted to get the 5th one down too as a surprise...hee hee

Fionn · 16/10/2002 11:14

bettys, sofiaames and bossykate - what time do you think you can get there? I booked for 7.30 as it was easy to book a table early, but if only 3 of us can get there for that time I wonder if they'll object if they're busy. Maybe I should re-book for 8pm and anyone who gets there for 7.30 (ks, ellasmum and me) can have a drink (do they have a bar there?).
ks the train leaves my staion at 7.02pm and gets to yours at 7.11pm so we can look out for each other. Shall I arrange to be in the first/last carriage?

OP posts:
SofiaAmes · 16/10/2002 11:29

7:30 is fine for me as i am now a woman of leisure....just let us know what you decide.

bettys · 16/10/2002 11:39

Fionn & ks, I was hoping to get the 7.14 train on the same line but have failed dismally in my bargaining with dp so it looks like I'll be on the 7.44 which means I'll be there for 8.00.

bossykate · 16/10/2002 15:12

i can make 7.30 but am flexible so can also do later if necessary.

clucks · 16/10/2002 17:07

Dear Fionn

I will come to Ma Goa on Friday at 7.30. Live down the road. Hope I've been counted in. Won't be on line again until seeing you all there.

Love.

Fionn · 16/10/2002 17:12

clucks - yes, I had originally counted you in, sorry I didn't mention you in the question about times! So that's clucks, ks, sofiaames, ellasmum, bossykate and me at 7.30pm to be joined by willow2 and bettys at 8pm. I said I'd confirm numbers with Ma Goa tomorrow so still time for anyone else to join in!

Willow2 · 18/10/2002 11:35

Tonight I will be drinking mainly Cobra beer.

SofiaAmes · 18/10/2002 12:32

willow2, peabrian here, but is there some significance to that statement????

Willow2 · 18/10/2002 15:14

none at all - only last time I stated that I would be drinking mainly Pinot Grigio and I thought I should embrace the Goan culture in a similar fashion - now will probably be told that Cobra is not available in Goa but what the hell...

Fionn · 18/10/2002 18:34

sofiaames - it's a reference to a Fast Show character. I'll explain later, just rushing to run the boys' bath, put some slap on and catch the 7.02 train!

Just got home. Fionn, thanks so much for organising this evening, I had a wonderful time, so nice to meet people!

So grateful it was in Putney after all, I have just got out of my nice, warm but above all, very quick cab home!

Bettys - those dried apricots are history!

Willow2 · 19/10/2002 00:53

Should hope so too!

Lovely to see everyone - here's to November 30th or before if anyone fancies a drink or two.

ellasmum · 19/10/2002 09:45

Thanks for organising a good night Fionn - sorry to be first to leave, feel like a wuss but need my sleep at the moment.

See you on the 30th November.

ellasmum · 19/10/2002 10:14

Fionn - owe you an apology, there is indeed a breastfeeding section on here. Not quite sure what I was on about last night!!!!

Fionn · 19/10/2002 10:18

Must have been great wine, no trace of a hangover! I thought the food was very good too, and of course the company. I really enjoyed the evening, happy to do it again any time...

bettys · 19/10/2002 16:08

Thanks Fionn, for organising last night (again!). No hangover here either, really enjoyed.
Bossykate, glad to hear you've chucked the apricots. Will post a fruit cake recipe on the other thread.

SofiaAmes · 19/10/2002 17:58

bettys, i'm not sure you should be talking about chucking anything.....
It was great to see everyone and the food was yummy. Sorry i didn't get to say goodbye to you willow2.
Amazing to say the house was quiet when i got home and dh had survived the 4 kids, or should i say, they had survived him.
Haven't broken the news to him that i'm going out again on monday with you fionn...
