West London October meet-up

My attempt to discuss books on another thread has led to a suggestion for a night out in west London, so my arm has been twisted...The date suggested is Friday 18 October, probably in Richmond or Putney. It's not clear yet whether it will be a meal or a pub, any suggestions welcome. Anyone who would like to come is welcome. So far it's Willow2, bossykate and me. 30 November is just too long to wait!

I would love to come - am at my Dad's at the moment and havn't got my diary but am pretty sure that am free - given that I never have anything planned. Although the 18th rings a bell for some reason.

Putney would be better for me, but am happy with any location or venue really.

bettys · 07/10/2002 15:29

I'd like to come to this meet-up as I can't make the November one. Quite fancy the idea of a wine bar/pub with nibbles or tapas.

Fionn · 07/10/2002 18:19

ellasmum - look forward to meeting you then!

bettys - do you know anywhere like that in Putney then? I know Richmond has All Bar One and Pitcher & Piano for drinks/snacks rather than a full meal. I've been to a wine bar there somewhere but can't remember where. I was always a pubs and pints girl in my going-out days!
PS where's the Book Club gone?!

fionn, didn't someone recommend a tapas place in putney for the last sw london meet? my brian not being what it was can't remember the name!

Willow2 · 07/10/2002 21:01

There is a good tapas bar right next to Richmond station - good food, not expensive, bit noisy. But would be dead easy for anyone who doesn't know Richmond to find.

Fionn · 07/10/2002 21:07

I know La Mancha, the tapas place in Putney, though haven't been there in years. I go to Don Fernando's (the one near Richmond station) fairly regularly. You can't book a table there though but can have a drink at the bar while you wait. I think it's a great venue though.
ks - haven't been keeping up to date on your postings so hope you're ok and hope you can make it!

Fionn - are you sure we can't book at Don F's - some vague memory suggests it might be possible for larger groups - but then I could just be talking xxxxxxxx. Will find out.

WideWebWitch · 07/10/2002 23:22

ks, wait til the November meet up and we can shoot each other

Fionn · 08/10/2002 07:14

Willow2 - maybe you're right. I know you can't book for under 8 people but it looks like we'll have more than that. If everyone's happy with it it would be a good place to go. Good for veggies if there are any too.

Fionn · 08/10/2002 08:08

Also, there's a huge new bit at the side but I think it's all non-smoking. So if we can't book and have any smokers we'll have to wait longer for a table (being a smug ex-smoker now!), but that's fine, just more time to drink sangria at the bar!

OP posts:
bettys · 08/10/2002 10:09

Don Fernando's sounds great, always like trying out new places.
Fionn - the Book Club seems to get lost after the first day or two. I think people are reading the books but too shy to comment online, whereas after a couple of drinks it's dead easy. Maybe we'll come up with some bright ideas with some Sangria!
ks - Hope the work is going okay, just think how much you'll deserve that Rioja...
I probably won't be able to make it till 7.30-8.00 as I'll have to wait until dp gets home (Friday night is also his pub night). What time were you thinking of meeting up?

Fionn · 08/10/2002 12:53

If we decide on Don Fernando's (ellasmum is that ok for you?) they probably won't give us a table until we're all there, but I'm happy to get there for 7.30pm or earlier if anyone else can and have a drink whilst waiting for the others.

oh shame - I'd love to come, being a west London girl born & bred. However, off to NY for 4 days without ds for glamorous wedding, a little shopping, some clubbing....... who knows?

Have one for me x

ellasmum · 08/10/2002 13:02

That sounds fine - will have to persuade DP to get himself home early as he usually pops for a 'couple' after work on a Friday.

If it is not too fussy - can I request non-smoking area. Seem to have become really sensitive to it since pregnancy and birth etc.. But will not cry if this is a problem.

Looking forward to it - I can probably get there about 8.00pm

Fionn · 08/10/2002 13:09

ellasmum - I prefer non-smoking too so it depends how much the smokers want to smoke...

A few days ago I bought two tickets for a play about Frida Khalo, the Mexican artist, called La Casa Azul at the Lyric Hammersmith on Monday 21 October. I bought them with a particular friend in mind but couldn't speak to her first as it was a limited 1/2 price offer. I now find she can't go as she's away for half-term. Are any of you Londoners interested in either a) coming to the play with me or b) buying both tickets from me. They're £9 each, which is less than half price I think. It starts at 7.30pm.

wow, dh breaks computer, I spend 10 lonely days without mumsnet and way too much happens without me....the night out sounds great especially if it's non-smoking. I will see if I can leave newly born dd with dh and come along. Is that terribly irresponsible of me to leave my child before she's even a month old!? And speaking of leaving children, Fionn, the Frida Khalo play sounds interesting. Are the reviews good? If i'm not considered too cruel a mother, I would love to go with you to see the play. Why don't you get my email from mumsnet and email me details.
Guess I'd better start expressing! (and buttering up dh).

Fionn · 09/10/2002 18:34

Sofiaames - belated congratulations on the birth of your dd! I don't read the Pregnancy or Childbirth threads usually so didn't see the announcement. When was she born?

I don't really have any more details about the play except it's at the Lyric Hammersmith on Monday 21st at 7.30pm. Haven't read any reviews yet so if it gets bad ones you can reconsider!

Hope to see you on 18th if you have enough energy to go out twice in 4 days!!

oh dear i'm being very awkward! would much prefer putney as this is cab-able back to mine without breaking the bank.

totally understand, respect etc desire of non-smokers not to be within breathing distance of my carcinogens, no problem - however will there be a place to which i can slink away to indulge my anti-social habit without discommoding everyone else?

sorry to be a nuisance.

bossykate · 10/10/2002 21:20

ps - would love the frida kahlo play - can't make it. sigh.

sofiaames - had thought your absence from the site was down to the completely understandable reason you've just given birth! congratulations! am so pleased you managed the delivery you wanted and hope you and the family are enjoying your now extended family life!

pupuce · 10/10/2002 21:50

Found it... west London... hmmm I am more of a central girl... this could add a whole 1 hour to my already 1 hour journey... shame

Fionn · 10/10/2002 22:10

bossykate - couldn't you get the last train back to Clapham Junction from Richmond? If Putney is much better for you that's fine though. Which probably brings us back to Pizza Express...I'll be away from Saturday to Monday and when I come back I'll book somewhere if you've all reached a decision in the meantime!
