Sheffield Spa Meet: Jan-Feb 2008 - enjoy a late spa session with food, followed by drinks out later should you wish

Hi. It is that time again. Time to sort out plans for the next Spa meet.

First some news - the prices are going up. The Spa session will be £30 on a weekday and £35 for the three hours on a Saturday, so a big jump. But they were always far cheaper than the alternatives and even £35 is still below the average spa cost.

However - a thought? How do you fancy a Saturday evening Spa meet, exclusive use to just our party? And with a nice finger buffet whilst we are there, on top of your normal complimenetary drinks?

And all for just £30 per person!

Here's the details:

The Spa Experience Session

7pm to 9:30pm - exclusive Spa use
Use of all the Spa facilities as normal, and with complimentary hot and soft drinks.

Treatments

However there are no treatments available at this time. But if you wish to have a treatment come over earlier and have a treatment in the afternoon, before about 6:30pm. Then sit about in the relaxation room until our session starts or nip into town for a spot of retail therapy whilst waiting. You would pay for your treatments on top of the Spa cost.

Finger Buffet

We can pre-order nibbles or a finger buffer from a local cafe/take away place called PJ Taste. who have a joint thing going with the Spa. It's a great place using "selectively sources, locally loyal" produce. An example of one of their finger buffets would be as follows, but they are flexible and will cater for what we want pretty much:

  • selection of Yorkshire Crisp Company convivla crisps, PJ Taste spicy roasted nuts, organic kalamata olives, pesto popcorn
  • tortilla chips with dips usally including hummous, guacamole and spicy tomato salsa
  • individual tartlets of local roast chicken in a herb mayonaise
  • individual tartlets of goat's cheese with oven dried tomatoes and black olive
  • mini bagels with smoked salmon and creme fraiche
  • mini bagles with pastrami
  • mini bagels with feta cheese and tomatoes
  • mini bagels with dolphin friendly tuna with flat leaf parsely
  • mini bagels with traditional ham with grain mustard

Afterwards

You can go home nicely rested and fed, or how about a trip into town for a few drinks, maybe a cocktail or two.

Not in Sheffield?

Not a problem. Some of us Sheffield based Spa goers may have the odd bed space available, or at least a sofa or two. Or if you fancy it there are a few local cheap hotels (such as Ibis, etc) where you could share a room with another person.

Cost

If we can get 20 people the cost is £30 a person including the food

If we get 25-30 the cost would remain at £30 a person.

If we get between 20 and 25 the Spa may be flexible over costs and not charge us the higher hire fee, but we would need to arrange this with them. If not possible we could create a reserve list (see below) so we can retain the £30 cost.

Paying for it

Because we would be doing private hire we would have a deposit to pay for the Spa and the food.

There would be no individual refund if you pulled out - you could however sell your place to someone else as we have often, in the past, had a reserve list.

Therefore, we would need the money (£30) up front I am afraid. Probably sometime in December. I would then pay for it all in full. So you'd turn up on the day with nothing more to pay.

If you have Spa vouchers we will look into this further. It may be possible to pay for your Spa contribution with these - I am sure you can. E-mail me if this affects you.

Christmas Present

You have no idea what you want your DH, your mum or in laws to buy you? This could be the ideal present for you! Get a loved one to treat you to a session at the spa for some post Christmas relaxation.

When?

Saturday evening.

I need some dates from you! We are thinking January or February (avoiding half term though) so let me know which dates are best.

_

So what do you think?
Up for it?
If so, please add your name to the list - I need 20 of you - with any dates you can't do.

Looking forward to next one already.

theheadgirl · 24/02/2008 09:18

Thanks Hula, lovely evening, great to see everyone.

Hulababy · 24/02/2008 11:10

Hi all.

Hope you all had a good time. I did! Sorry if there is anyone I didn't get chance to chat to, or chance to say goodbye to. We were last out of the canging rooms I think - had to wait for showers - and everyone had gone I think by then. Katz, PandaG and Charleymouse and me went over to West One for cocktails, and then me, Katz and PandaG stopped at pub on way back for wine too Was lovely.

So - would you do it again?

Charleynouse - hope yu got back home okay with all that driving.

post here if you are going to email me - that is my anonymous a/c for using on here, I don't check it that frequently

I missed any VD conversation

roisin · 24/02/2008 22:54

It was great: I really enjoyed it - as always.

Personally I prefer to go to the spa in the afternoon - normal without food - then go out for a meal afterwards. (Although when we do that I do feel a bit sorry for the other people at the spa when we are being rather noisy.)

Clementine1 · 25/02/2008 09:28

I had a great time but it will take me a week to recover - too much wine at Tillykins house but how and ever. It was lovely to see you all again - Roisin if you need any info just shout, Clary glad to see someone else has such good taste in handbags!

Clary · 26/02/2008 09:29

Panda - have just sent you long and wittering email

Clem - yes I almost took your bag by mistake. Green bags rule!

purpleturtle · 26/02/2008 13:08

It's not really fair to rub it in you know.

I was at what could possibly the most tedious family party ever. The lunch was fine, but it was followed by 15 (count them) speeches in tribute to my 70 year old uncle. One or two were quite amusing, but several really really weren't.

Still, at least when he dies the funeral should be short, since it's all been said already.

PandaG · 26/02/2008 13:29

Sorry PT - think Hula is already thinking about organising the next one! 15 speeches does sound incredibly tedious...and impossible for DC to sit through!

purpleturtle · 26/02/2008 13:32

Should have said, actually, that the children were all taken away and looked after. They had a great time. That, at least, was a blessing. They played party games and had playdough and everything.

PandaG · 26/02/2008 13:37

ah, not quite so bad then...generally if my dc are happy then I can endure a lot! I did think about you as we sad and steamed and ate a lovely buffet. Katz said she had tried to persuade you to do a mad dash after the party!

next time our DH's can do childcare together maybe, and sink a pint or 2 while we are steaming?

purpleturtle · 26/02/2008 13:41

I had considered the mad dash - you know me - but even I didn't think it fair to put dh through my extended family's idea of a good time, and then abandon him with the offspring!

Maybe next time.

charleymouse · 27/02/2008 23:29

Cheers Hula got back fine even though a little late. Thanks again. PS the cake was yummy.
