Sheffield Spa Meet: Jan-Feb 2008 - enjoy a late spa session with food, followed by drinks out later should you wish

Hi. It is that time again. Time to sort out plans for the next Spa meet.

First some news - the prices are going up. The Spa session will be £30 on a weekday and £35 for the three hours on a Saturday, so a big jump. But they were always far cheaper than the alternatives and even £35 is still below the average spa cost.

However - a thought? How do you fancy a Saturday evening Spa meet, exclusive use to just our party? And with a nice finger buffet whilst we are there, on top of your normal complimenetary drinks?

And all for just £30 per person!

Here's the details:

The Spa Experience Session

7pm to 9:30pm - exclusive Spa use
Use of all the Spa facilities as normal, and with complimentary hot and soft drinks.

Treatments

However there are no treatments available at this time. But if you wish to have a treatment come over earlier and have a treatment in the afternoon, before about 6:30pm. Then sit about in the relaxation room until our session starts or nip into town for a spot of retail therapy whilst waiting. You would pay for your treatments on top of the Spa cost.

Finger Buffet

We can pre-order nibbles or a finger buffer from a local cafe/take away place called PJ Taste. who have a joint thing going with the Spa. It's a great place using "selectively sources, locally loyal" produce. An example of one of their finger buffets would be as follows, but they are flexible and will cater for what we want pretty much:

  • selection of Yorkshire Crisp Company convivla crisps, PJ Taste spicy roasted nuts, organic kalamata olives, pesto popcorn
  • tortilla chips with dips usally including hummous, guacamole and spicy tomato salsa
  • individual tartlets of local roast chicken in a herb mayonaise
  • individual tartlets of goat's cheese with oven dried tomatoes and black olive
  • mini bagels with smoked salmon and creme fraiche
  • mini bagles with pastrami
  • mini bagels with feta cheese and tomatoes
  • mini bagels with dolphin friendly tuna with flat leaf parsely
  • mini bagels with traditional ham with grain mustard

Afterwards

You can go home nicely rested and fed, or how about a trip into town for a few drinks, maybe a cocktail or two.

Not in Sheffield?

Not a problem. Some of us Sheffield based Spa goers may have the odd bed space available, or at least a sofa or two. Or if you fancy it there are a few local cheap hotels (such as Ibis, etc) where you could share a room with another person.

Cost

If we can get 20 people the cost is £30 a person including the food

If we get 25-30 the cost would remain at £30 a person.

If we get between 20 and 25 the Spa may be flexible over costs and not charge us the higher hire fee, but we would need to arrange this with them. If not possible we could create a reserve list (see below) so we can retain the £30 cost.

Paying for it

Because we would be doing private hire we would have a deposit to pay for the Spa and the food.

There would be no individual refund if you pulled out - you could however sell your place to someone else as we have often, in the past, had a reserve list.

Therefore, we would need the money (£30) up front I am afraid. Probably sometime in December. I would then pay for it all in full. So you'd turn up on the day with nothing more to pay.

If you have Spa vouchers we will look into this further. It may be possible to pay for your Spa contribution with these - I am sure you can. E-mail me if this affects you.

Christmas Present

You have no idea what you want your DH, your mum or in laws to buy you? This could be the ideal present for you! Get a loved one to treat you to a session at the spa for some post Christmas relaxation.

When?

Saturday evening.

I need some dates from you! We are thinking January or February (avoiding half term though) so let me know which dates are best.

_

So what do you think?
Up for it?
If so, please add your name to the list - I need 20 of you - with any dates you can't do.

Not sure what to say TBH! If I go for 23rd Feb then I know at least one other person can't make it. And I think this is same for most other dates too.

OP posts:
roisin · 19/11/2007 20:59

I think prob best to avoid Feb half term, as it may affect people even if they don't realise it now. Unfortunately it varies across counties/schools. But I think it probably wise to avoid both ends of all possible half terms.

Sheffield LEA (and ours) is 11-15 Feb, and Derbyshire is 18-22 Feb.

So that would rule out 9th, 16th, and 23rd.

Other than that put in a hat all the dates that only one person can't make? And see what comes out?

Or just pick something that suits you best: it's your perogative after all!

Hulababy · 19/11/2007 21:02

Failing that I move it to March 1st!!! lol

OP posts:
Katz · 19/11/2007 21:49

what about the 19th of Jan?

Katz · 19/11/2007 21:51

ah that hsm - missed that

Hulababy · 19/11/2007 22:38

Yes, not sure I'd be back in time. Doesn't start till 3:45pm and at other side of town.

OP posts:
Clary · 20/11/2007 00:19

well if it's any help at all I reckon I can make any date (lol at all you lot with your organised lives - at this time of year I cannot think beyond Dec 25)

purpleturtle · 20/11/2007 09:20

I wouldn't mind you going for 23 Feb, Hula. But I see that might clash with half-term for some.

TBH, would rather be at Spa meet than uncle's 70th birthday party, but hey ho!

Katz · 20/11/2007 09:26

23rd of feb is fine for me!

Hulababy · 20/11/2007 20:21

Well I can do 23rd Feb. What about others?

OP posts:
PandaG · 20/11/2007 20:23

I can do 23rd atm, but was hoping to see PT I must admit...whatever is best for everyone (can't you get out of the party PT?)

Hulababy · 20/11/2007 20:48

I don't really know what to suggest

OP posts:
roisin · 20/11/2007 22:30

I can do 23rd Feb.
WM is in Sheffield City school, so I don't know whether 23rd will suit her.

purpleturtle · 20/11/2007 22:36

With my family politics?! Shouldn't think so, Panda. If my mother's told me to keep a date free 6 months in advance, I'll keep it free.

Am about to book myself for something in Harrogate on 15 March. I feel like my life is running away with me!

PandaG · 21/11/2007 07:45

was said tongue .in cheek PT! didn't think you would!

Hula, how about we give it a few days to see if most people can make 23rd, and if so go with that? Maybe set a cut off date for folk to let you know is 23 is ok, if no-one says no by the date it will be tough if you set the date and then they can't make it.

THanks very much for doing this HUla, is dificult to coordinate everyone

Hulababy · 22/11/2007 08:47

OK. This is my list at present. Please make yourself BOLD if you can come on Sat 23rd Feb You can still add your name to the list, and you are free to remove your name also. Please let me know though so I can keep this list the same as the MO list, otherwise I get confused
