As the previous thread seems to have gone a bit quiet and we still haven't managed a meet up I thought I'd start a new one.
Anyone still interested in meeting up some time?
THose interested on the other thread were:
xoz
Steppemum (I know you won't be around until the NEw YEar but it may well be then anyway!)
Cuppy
rubyt
NannyJo
happymummy1
Caroline5
CP3

So are any of us around and fancy having another go? OR anyone else neasrby? (I'm in Gloucester but will travel down)

What days are best?

Outlet Village still Ok? And before or after Christmas?

Questions, questions, questions!

Anyone got a suggestion for a day to meet up?? Desperate to get out and about now. there are only so many times you can shop in asda or boots with a six week old baby. AAaargh!!

rubyt · 13/11/2004 17:50

outlet willage if weather not - otherwise how about Lydiard Park (sp?) - my little boy doesn't sit still for too long and it means he's distracted whilst I chat/walk. How about the last Monday before December? Is it the 29th Nov? Otherwise Westonbirt Arboretum is free in December and there's a great cafe there that do scrummy cakes.

MistressMary · 13/11/2004 17:55

Westonbirt. Now thats something different.
My boy loves being outside in his pushchair, gets quite fetful in shops to be honest, can't see why myself!

rubyt · 14/11/2004 08:38

so how about the 1st Monday in December?

Hayls · 14/11/2004 12:42

I can make most days or dates, wlthough I'd rather not Tuesdays or THursdays. I don't know my way round Swindon very well so I'd need directions to anywher other than the Outlet Village!
Hi Pandagirl, why don't you come along?

1st Monday in Dec is out for me. We'll be in Nuremberg for the Christmas Markets (dh is desperate to jam in as many holidays as he can b4 we go back to Australia!!!) from 2/12 til 6/12. But if we are going to have 2 dates, then don't let my inability stop you.
Westonbirt sounds lovely, but depending on the time, might be a problem for me as I have a lunchtime pick up for dd1 at nursery which cuts the day in half. Big pain!! Do others have access to cars to get to places away from town centre???
What about Friday 10th Dec? Honestly I don't care where we meet. Outlet Village was the original suggestion because it was somewhere everyone knew how to get to!
Nannyjo, have you checked out any local parent and toddler groups??? They are my lifeline. SOOO much cheaper than going to the shops!!!! I can tell you about 2 good ones in OLd Town, and one at Freshbrook also.

Hayls · 18/11/2004 07:48

So how about 10th December then? I can make it, any others?

OP posts:
cuppy · 22/11/2004 21:05

I can do it.

MistressMary · 23/11/2004 18:01

i will ask if i can.
depends on a driver for me.

cuppy · 23/11/2004 19:51

Where is the meet?

MistressMary · 23/11/2004 19:53

I think it's the outlet village.
10th December at what time?

xoz · 24/11/2004 15:23

Does morning or afternoons suit people better? I can do either. If mornings how about 10 or 10:30? If afternoons how about 1 or 1:30? Trying to take into account people who might have nursery or school pickups or is it only me who has an 11:45 pick up to work around?

cuppy · 24/11/2004 15:46

A.m or p.m fine for me. think we should bump this alot as there are many who we havent heard from for a while such as ;
chonky
rubyt
nannyjo.
hopefully theyll do a search on their name. The more the merrier wouldnt you say?

xoz · 24/11/2004 15:55

absolutely. We have booked our flights back to Australia now too. We are going Jan 11th.... don't quite know how to feel at this point....

Hayls · 24/11/2004 19:32

Mornings are better for me, I think- dd's sleeps are a bit erratic atm so if its afternoon I can work round it!
Xoz, can't believe we're only going to have one meet before you jet off! How long have you been here for?
Come on everybody else, where are you??

MistressMary · 24/11/2004 21:50

morning seems the better option here too.

xoz · 24/11/2004 21:52

Have been in the UK for a bit over 3 years nows, but only in Swindon since Sept 2003. We lived in Glasgow up until then.
So what does everyone else think for times????
Are we happy with Outlet Village as venue? Some expressed concern about lack of entertainment for their kids (I know dd2 will run riot there after about 5 minutes.... but I don't mind as long as no one else does )

rubyt · 24/11/2004 22:00

Unfortunately I cannot make 10.12 as I work Fridays (and Wed/Thurs)but thanks for remembering me cuppy! Let me know when the next meet is and I 'll try and make it

Hayls · 25/11/2004 12:49

Just bumping this again!
Xoz, I lived in Glasgow from 1996 to 2000 while I was at uni (I am Scottish, moved to Glos with dh), what did you think of it? I love shopping there... OUr families are both round about Glasgow and we often visit them.
So any more for any more?

OP posts:
NannyJo · 25/11/2004 18:02

I can make the 10th dec. Am or Pm. It would be great if this works. I could do with an excuse to shop!!

Hayls, we loved Glasgow, we lived on the south side. I was really upset about moving but Swindon has turned out well for us too. We hope we can get up there to see our friends before we head home to Australia.

Amanda1 - the best advice I was given re:Swindon was stay AWAY from suburbs that begin with P! (eg. Penhill, Pinehurst, Parks North and South) Also the area between the town centre and the football stadium, is a bit rough too (around Manchester Road) (BIG APOLOGIES if anyone on this thread lives in those Areas!!!!)
I don't know a lot about the schools as my dd1 is still at nurseryand wont be going to school here, but I think the Swindon Borough Council website gives you info about schools in the area. From what I've heard, Ridgeway High School at Wroughton (just south) is considered the best in the area. The area I live in, Old Town, the schools are generally considered good. Another website you can get information about things is up my street . You put in the postcode for areas you want to know about and it tells you crime statistics, school statistics, all kinds of stuff.
I hope this is helpful. Others may be able to tell you about other bits of town.

Swindon Childrens Information Service which has info about schools, nurseries, childminders, Parent & toddler groups.
