Edinburgh - anyone for summer meet-ups?

Hi, I will be in Edinburgh (Stockbridge area) for 6 weeks this summer with the DDs (they will be nearly 4 and nearly 1 then) and would like to meet-up with others for trips to museums, parks , Botanics, theatre and music events etc. I don't drive so it needs to be fairly central.
Anyone?

Writing thank you cards really dominated the first few weeks of my DS life for me and I really resented it. Second time around I addressed and stamped all envelopes before hand and wrote a really basic thank you but it still pissed me off. And disposing of all the crap was annoying too. Nobody has the same taste in clothes and most of what I was given went straight to the charity shop. i think companies that send out presents direct should include a prestamped and addressed 'got it thanks' postcard for the recipient to give to someone to stick in a postbox. If you really really want to know it got there then wait til you see them in person. If you are not going to see them anytime in the next year maybe you should let the friendship slide. Best of all for me was when I was sent nice cards at the time and then given a present in person and could say thank you to their face. (luckily people doing it this way don't seem to give crap either so no false smile necessary)

Im up for it, and yes you are better getting it sorted now, as i done the Zoo one and well, had loads of names on the list and less than half turned up on the day, but those who did come all had a great time... so Good luck Arranging it..

I'm not in Edinburgh but I'm just over the water in Fife. If there was a weekday meet-up somewhere easy to get to by public transport then dd, ds & I would love to come along. The gardens might be good, or Holyrood Park is an easy walk down the Royal Mile, or the Botanic Gardens. If the weather's miserable there's always the museum (free & dd loves watching the fish in the ornamental ponds) or the parliament building (which even has a creche).

ok, will keep this bumped for the next few weeks and fine-tune the day and time before we set off for Edinbugger. Any prefs as to day ?- mid-week would be quieter than weekend...lunch time, right?

hi, yes Fifers are of course welcome as is anyone else in the general area, not sure if picnics are allowed in the Botanics, not obvious ones anyway, we may have to buy a couple of plates of stuff in the cafe as cover...

Good point.. havnt seen picnics .. The cafe seemed nice when we went for a drink [so dont know if its expensive for food] - but there is a play park over the road from the Botanics back gate in Inverleith Park where we could go for a picnic.

yes hermia, i do the love the fact that the Botanics is dog-shit-free tho...we look forward all year to walking around bare-foot on real, green grass - no grass where we live
We could do a morning meet up instead or an after lunch one if that didnt screw-up naps... then we could just have an ice-cream/snack - there are 2 ice-cream places in the Botanics.
