Meet-ups

When meeting up take sensible precautions. Meet in a public place and let others know where you are going.

So tell me about MN meet-ups....

What is it like meeting people you know online in RL? Are people like you imagine them to be? Do you wear little badges with your MN name?

Bit daunting the first time but generally find a few bottles of wine eases things!!!!!!!

Bit confusing with the names at first - you never know whether to call people by their MN name or RL name - took me a while to remember a whole load of new RL names!!!!

Have you been to any MN meetups? Whereabouts are you?

LadyTophamHatt · 03/04/2007 09:59

we generally all meet up at service stations, driving there in our great big 18 wheeelers.

HoraceWimp · 03/04/2007 10:01

I try not to scratch my nads

KathyMCMLXXII · 03/04/2007 10:01

Thanks Merlin.

I'm near York and as there seem to be a few of us who would like to meet for coffee, was thinking of organising a sort of small-scale one. Just a daytime meet for coffee, rather than one of those huge drunken orgies where people fall over in the street and sleep with the hotel concierge.

I shave my hands specially so I look lovely.

KathyMCMLXXII · 03/04/2007 10:02

LOL @ all you hairy truckers.

OP posts:
Furball · 03/04/2007 10:03

I've been on about 5 and met the same mumsnetters everytime and we still don't know each others proper names

Merlin · 03/04/2007 10:04

No hairy truckers down here in Bournemouth I'll have you know - where all laaaaaadies!

Kathy - I used to live near Beverley and often use to go shopping in York - I love it there.

Your coffee meetup sounds a lovely idea - just go for it. Everyone else will all be feeling a bit nervous too!

Merlin · 03/04/2007 10:04

DelGirl · 03/04/2007 10:05

EasterSparklerEgg · 03/04/2007 10:09

The Bournemouth lot are all weirdos! Not really they are lovely (got to be nice to them cos we have a meet up on Thursday)

DelGirl · 03/04/2007 10:09

I'll be fine by then, if not, nothing that a few drinks won't cure . right, off to my sick bed cough cough, splutter, splutter.

KathyMCMLXXII · 03/04/2007 10:10

Ah, my MIL is in Bournemouth, Merlin.
Beverley is lovely. We go there when we want a change and to have a walk in the woods.

Merlin · 03/04/2007 10:10

Oi Sparkler - who you calling weird?!!!!!!

Well we all are after a few drinks lets face it!!!! [tipsy emotion]

Merlin · 03/04/2007 10:11

Small world Kathy! If you come down to visit her you should come on one of our meetups and we'll show you how it's done!!!!

KathyMCMLXXII · 03/04/2007 10:13

Yes please Merlin - are we allowed to swear at your meet-ups? (That's my biggest problem with staying with MIL.... have to be well-behaved, y'see.)

OP posts:
EasterSparklerEgg · 03/04/2007 10:13

You know I love you guys really! Mwwaaaa! PMSL

Merlin · 03/04/2007 10:16

Swearing, drinking, chatting up the waiters, dancing (that's Surfermums speciality and a whole other story!!!) - anything goes!!!!!

Whereabouts does your MIL live?

KathyMCMLXXII · 03/04/2007 10:17

She's in Highcliffe, just the other side of Christchurch (so not Bournemouth itself but as near as makes no difference).

OP posts:
Merlin · 03/04/2007 10:18

Highcliffe is nice, I have an aunt and uncle there. Only about 15/20mins away by car.

Anyway, nice chatting but really must go and sort out the DS's now - been left to their own devices for the last hour!!!!

KathyMCMLXXII · 03/04/2007 11:02

But are people in RL like they are online? That's what I really want to know.

OP posts:
HoraceWimp · 03/04/2007 11:02

no they are all men
I have never met a woman mumsnetter
