Kerpots · 11/02/2007 22:58

Hi there, I'm a 29 year old Mum of two (Amber 2yrs & Finn 4mths) relocating to Somerset (hopefully b4 end of the summer) most probably Tauton, but have never been there in my life - so many questions, so little time. Would love to know more about area; where's good v where's bad, Good schools v bad schools - general advice really. Help?

I shall wear a red jumper then you can't miss me!

Am usually sat on a table near the coffee hatch and have ds2 (age2) clung to my leg as he won't go and play with the other children.

morningpaper · 12/03/2007 21:46

snort

OK I shall wear a red jumper too and shall probably leave dd2 in the buggy in the hall and realise I have walked in by myself again

I will go up to you and say "Ambercat?" and you will be the wrong person and I will slink off and hide in the art room

ambercat · 12/03/2007 21:50

lol, probably will look at you blankly thinking -who the hell is ambercat- before it all clicks into place, am not very switched on in the morning!

look forward to meeting you

badelaide · 12/03/2007 21:51

No, but not far away.
We often visit for shopping and Vivary Park.
And we really, really miss Tommy Taylors.

morningpaper · 12/03/2007 21:57

That's a dry-cleaners now

It was expensive

ambercat · 12/03/2007 21:58

Yes there is a massive gap in the market now tt and playtime magic have gone.
My kids used to love tommy taylors.

morningpaper · 12/03/2007 22:01

Yes what HAPPENED to playtime magic?

At first it was something about the boiler going and now it's just a dusty old building

Mind you it always smelt TERRIBLE

ambercat · 12/03/2007 22:08

I heard they found asbestos in there and would cost too much to sort out.

and it did stink.

Where is the nearest softplay type place?

morningpaper · 12/03/2007 22:12

Ahhh

I've no idea where the nearest place is - dd2 screams in the car (is 18 months now) so we can't drive anywhere - Brewsters isn't bad?

ambercat · 12/03/2007 23:01

sorry, had to go ds2 woke up and won't go back to bed!! am going to lie down with him get some sleep myself if he lets me!

see you wed am i hope

morningpaper · 13/03/2007 19:57

ambercat I've forgotten I'm working tomorrow and DH has taken the day off specially!

What about NEXT Wednesday?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Sorry - was so excited, checked my red jumper was clean and everything!

ambercat · 13/03/2007 22:54

no worries, am there every week (god my life is fun)

will wear my red jumper next week instead!!

MiaWallace · 14/03/2007 11:14

I also live in Taunton. Moved here last year from Wales.

Moving here is definatly one of the better decisions I've made. I love it here.

Rather concerned about the number of mumsnetters around though. Will have to stop giving dd fruitshots in public

ambercat · 14/03/2007 12:35

Hi mia, yes i'm a bit shocked about how many of us there are!!

How old is your dd? Do you go to any groups etc in taunton?

OrmIrian · 14/03/2007 12:40

Well bugger me there are loads of you! I'm not far from you - 14 miles up the mway in B'water. Go to Taunton quite a bit but not happy now that Taunton toys is gorn...'Twaas part of my childhood.

MiaWallace · 14/03/2007 13:50

Hi ambercat.

Dd is almost 2. I used to go to the toddler group in Comeytrowe, but I'm a full-time student now, so don't get the chance to go anymore.

ambercat · 14/03/2007 16:46

I've been to that group!, Its closing down after easter as the pre-school need the room.

Kerpots, have hi=jacked your thread slightly!! hope you found out what you needed to know, let me know if thers anything you want to ask

booge · 14/03/2007 17:05

Blimey so many people from Taunton, I grew up in one (well a couple) of the villages outside nearer Wivey and Wellington and lived in Town in a very dodgy flat when I was 18.

I've moved up county a bit but friends and family and our business partner are still down there. I bet a few of us know people in common.

MiaWallace · 14/03/2007 18:14

oh ambercat I wonder if we've met.

Do you recall meeting a very short welsh woman at any point?

I only went for a few months mind, between the time I moved here and the time I started studying.

Tamum · 14/03/2007 18:23

Oh blimey Mia, I was just wondering if you were my cousin until I saw that you moved last year! She is also a short Welshwoman (as indeed am I, but only half Welsh) who lives just outside Taunton. She used to live in Bishop's Hull, and my niece still goes to the primary school there. The older two are at King's.

MiaWallace · 14/03/2007 18:32

Shame you have already figured out I'm not your cousin.

Could have been fun to string you along for a bit otherwise

Tamum · 14/03/2007 18:33

Just as well then, eh (you might come across her though!)

PeachyClair · 14/03/2007 18:33

Hello

not here at the mo (uni- in Wales, looks like other people are doing the opposite move LOL) but grew up there, and still do the carnivals. You will see us no doubt in Novermber, one with the globes on- Is hall apologise for the music in advance LOL

Taunton is fine, I was in Norton for a bit and TBH nearly died of boredom, but I was a student acnd couldnt afford petrol to go anywhere much. Kingston St Mary / Nailsbourne are fab, but I personally am a sucker for the Levels- absolutely love that area, really gorgeous (Burrowbrdige, that sort of area).

Only bit worth worrying about is Inner and Outer Circles, though in this day and age if you type a street into the web you'll get loads of info, if you have any specific areas though do feel free to CAT.

Do make time to visit the beautiful big house at Cheddon whose name I forget (someone here will know [blsuh], and Porlock. And as wella s the Taunton Carnival, do consider the Bridgwater or North petherton ones- kids will love them, they're world famous.

Easy to get to Seaton etc too in the summer.

ambercat · 14/03/2007 20:05

Mia, i have a feeling i may know you!!

Do you have blond hair and did you break your arm not that long ago?

MiaWallace · 14/03/2007 20:58

omg ambercat, yeah that's me.
You have freaked me out now, lol

Who are you?
