Hi I have a ds aged 4 and a half, and have moved to Merstham near Redhill, a few months ago. It would be really nice to email and maybe meet up with other mumsnetters nearby, if there are any! If anyone is interested please get in touch, take care.

Good morning girls. I dont know what to do now as not everyone can make this Tuesday. Some can make Thursday and some can make Friday. The best thing is maybe to leave it for next week and the following week I am on holiday so can everyone check their diaries for the week commencing 7th November and either we do a day meet up or maybe evening is easier, what do you think? I am quite happy for the ones that can make Tuesday to still pop round. Let me know.

hi girls

havent been on for a bit we all came down with terrible sickness and the other end its been terrible.

i have to get something off my chest as i am fed up, hope you dont mind

i am returning back to work in jan and asked my company if i could do 2 days a week on a early shift two reasons why one is i only have childcare for that time and second the boys have had me home for a year so i thought it wouldnt be such a shock for them.well they rung tonight to tell me i cant do 2 days i have to do 5 days a week on double shift so i wont really see the children its a cruel world!!!!!!!!!!

i am so fed up

any thoughts

funnytype · 26/10/2004 07:33

Good morning girls. I am sorry to hear that Emy1, I think that is unfair as there should be some kind of compromise for coming back to work. What will you do for childcare? Speak to you soon. Hope everyone is well.

Hi Emy1

I think thats awful . I would speak to an Employment Lawyer as soon as possible to find out what your rights are. I am not sure but I think because you have had children and depending on how long you have worked for this company they will have to accommodate you if you would like to work part-time. The only law firm I know of in Crawley is DMH on the Old High Street and they definitely have an Employment Law Department.

Good Luck!

emy1 · 26/10/2004 17:46

thanks steph and kitkat

i will look into that kitkat i have the union on the case as well

did you all have a nice day

funnytype · 26/10/2004 20:05

Yes thanks Emy1. Next time Snowbell and Jollytot have offered to host a meet up during the day hope you can make it next time.

Have a great evening girls.

Emy1, I'm so sorry to hear your news. Your blood must be boiling. Off the top of my head, I think that your employer can legally refuse to let you work part-time, but I've heard that they do need to present a good business case in writing as to why it would not be feasible. I've heard that it works best if you put your case for working part-time to them in writing so you can make your argument clear and list advantages to them, etc. Then when they have to respond to you in writing they have to quantify their reasons properly. There is an organisation called Maternity Alliance and I'm sure they have employment advice on their website. Also, post your problem on Going back to work. I'm sure there are people on there who have had exactly your situation to deal with. I'm glad you've got the union. Good luck!

dawnie1 · 27/10/2004 11:42

Emy1 - Awful news !! I'd be livid . I was sure that they had to 'be seen to consider your request' but I'm not definite. I'll try to talk to someone in my HR department and let you know if I find out anything.

emy1 · 27/10/2004 21:50

hi girls

thank you so much for your support and advice it has all helped me and i am starting to take a bit more control of the matter.

i am going down the legal channels now and doing everthing in writing through the union one of the reps phoned this evening and sounded very hopefully she has told me they are just trying it on.

thanks again

so when is the next meet up?
