Hi,

Just joined MN today and thought I would tap out a little note to introduce myself and to see if there are any other mums from Hertfordshire / near Stevenage. My husband, 6 month old son and I are moving out of London to the 'burbs in the new year and won't know any other mums. To be honest - I only know a few here in London (NCT gang) as DH and I are the first to become parents in our group of mates (well someone had to do it...)

I'm planning to go back to work in the spring (with a heavy heart, despite previously being the all time career girl) and really want to make the most of the time I still have off - e.g. meet new friends / other mums and generally get out and about with the bub.

Would love to hear from anyone in the Herts area.

Cheers.

Hello,

I moved to a village in North Herts earlier this year (about 8 miles from Stevenage) and have a 7 month old son. I'd love to meet some new people here too.

Good luck with the move

faeriemum · 01/12/2006 12:50

springer72 · 01/12/2006 15:21

Stevenage town centre would be fine if you can tell me somewhere to park - easy to find and with nice big spaces! I always get lost in Stevenage, and have never actually made it into the town centre. I know where Roaring Meg and Asda are, er, and thats it...

Looking forward to meeting you all in the new Year

CantSleepWithSanta · 01/12/2006 15:30

Hello londondixy - welcome to MN! Now you have thousands of friends .

I'm also in the Stevenage area - in a little village towards Hitchin. I have a nearly 10 month old DD.

Springer - which village are you in?

I'm happy to meet up, but would need to be somewhere where I can keep DD entertained - she's very active (not yet walking by herself though), and won't sit quietly in a pushchair whilst I drink coffee!

I've been told that castaway kids on Roaring Meg is quite good, but haven't ever been (we normally go to soft play in Harpenden).

Whooooosh · 01/12/2006 15:41

I'm just outside Stevenage-dd is 19mts.There are definitely better places to meet than Castaway-I think it always smells of wee!

Great soft play in Hatfield if you can drive or great chinese buffet on retial park which is very child friendly....would be happy to meet up.

CantSleepWithSanta · 01/12/2006 16:19

Oh Whooosh - what is the soft play in Hatfield? Wanted to find one there to meet another MNer pre Christmas!

Lio · 01/12/2006 16:25

Hi londondixy, I am also in Stevenage (Bedwell area) and have a ds (3.2) and dd (0.3). In fact, swift hijack, but faeriemum and I and another mn/er (Ska) have just started to hatch a plan of Ska's to form a book group, meeting at each other's homes once a month. You or any of the others on this thread interested? We haven't met yet, but were thinking that a meet-up in Costa Coffee in Stevenage town centre would be a good start - I'll check back on this thread in a day or two to see if there are any more takers.

And welcome to the area - I think lots more people are going to be moving out of London because they want luxuries like, ooh I don't know, two or three bedrooms and a garden

Fairlands Valley Park is my favourite thing about Stevenage, closely followed by the network of cycle lanes. Makes up for the general ugliness of the town centre, but I'm sure that can get better with time.

Whooooosh · 01/12/2006 21:20

Excellent-a mini get-together!

Soft play is called "TopsyTurvy World" and I thnk it's great.Does't smell of wee, does good coffee, organic food for kids and has seperate area for littlies.

Lio · 03/12/2006 19:51

Hi Whooooosh, I will CAT you.

Lio · 03/12/2006 19:53

Me again - it didn't work. Have you changed your chat name in the last couple of days?

notreallyhereDee · 03/12/2006 19:55

whoosh where is that? is that birchwood?

notreallyhereDee · 03/12/2006 19:56

oh and a ilvied in shephall for a year. was ok. but i prefer my little haven in welwyn.

Lio · 03/12/2006 19:58

Yes, Welwyn is v desirable, also Letchworth. Maybe if we get a bit richer

notreallyhereDee · 03/12/2006 19:59

i cant afford anything here. we have a council bungalow. its near the industrail bit in welwyn garden though.

PartridgeinaRustyBearTree · 03/12/2006 20:01

I was born in Datchworth, it's a nice village, but think it's very expensive now. My DB's still live there.

Lio · 03/12/2006 20:03

Hi Dee, yes it's a bugger isn't it, so bloody expensive to buy anything in these places. Tell you what, when I win the lottery I'll let you come and visit

londondixy · 03/12/2006 21:04

And to think my mum was saying "you're not going to know anyone when you move..." just yesterday! Thanks for the good wishes about the move, I am definitely looking forward to having a flat and being near some open spaces. As nice as North London is (sometimes) I'm definitely ready for a change.

Will be great to meet up - happy to try anywhere really as it'll all be new to me.

I'll look forward to catching up with you all in the new year.

Oh yes Datchworth looks lovely Rustybear- we often drive through it to get from ours to in-laws.

Whoosh - is Topsy Turvy near the big Tesco - think I might have seen signs for it round there?

IWhoooooshYouamerryXmas · 03/12/2006 22:31

Oooh Dathcworth is "fraightfully poshe"-bloody lovely actually and a great pub with great food-just far too expensive houses.

Lio -have changed to Xmas name so CAT should work now.

CantSleep-yes that's the one-just round the corner from the big Tesco.

PartridgeinaRustyBearTree · 03/12/2006 22:55

Barry Norman lives there - my mum used to run the old people's club with his MIL, and I babysat for him once
