Know what you mean about the public transport from there. It is the same here!!

I've done the last train to Didcot from Oxford on a Friday and Saturday (though not for absolutely years), and it's usually a bus filled with vomiting teenagers. Really grim.

sorry - that sounds really strange, but they often used to replace the last scheduled train with a bus, iyswim.
