These big mumsnet meet ups - what happens then?

I've done a local mumsnet meet up with about 8 people and that was scary enough. Turning up to a venue without knowing who people are and what they look like.
What would you do if you turned up at a HUGE meet up like the xmas one that's being organised? How do you know who people are? Does everyone have to wear a badge or something to give themselves away?
I'm sitting here, picturing groups of ladies whispering to each other...."that must be "xyz", I never thought she'd be like that" etc etc.
I'm curious.
I think I'd be too scared to go by myself, I admire those of you that are going to do this.

I'd like to come on a meet up, but noone would like me, becuase I am weird and smell of poo. And I look like a baglady

MarsLady · 14/08/2006 16:49

hell honey after a few drinks everyone looks and smells the same... so come on.... come meet us!

intergalacticwalrus · 14/08/2006 16:56

I'm a bit frightened tbh. I'd love to come, but I am too much of a sissy to travel to Londinium on my tod.

MarsLady · 14/08/2006 16:57

how can you be intergalatic yet not travel to Londinium? lol

Go on.... you know you wanna!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

intergalacticwalrus · 14/08/2006 17:01

[bites fingernails]

But London is so BIG I come from Bath where you can get end to end in about 5 mins,(providing you don;t get stuck on the one way system.) If there's someone going from my neck o' the woods who don;t ming having a baglady tagging onto them, I'll think about it.

WelshBoris · 14/08/2006 17:02

I'm really looking forward to it, cant wait to put faces to names

And get drunk obviously

MarsLady · 14/08/2006 17:09

intergalatic..... start a thread asking for company and ask on the meetup thread. I'm sure that someone will be coming.

intergalacticwalrus · 14/08/2006 17:10

[fingernails now stumps, and beads of sweat appear on brow]

MarsLady · 14/08/2006 17:11

Relax honey..... and breathe...... again...... in...... and out................ in........ and out................

Mercy · 14/08/2006 17:12

I would love to attend a meet up but for me it is the thought of attending on my own and being the one that no-one talks to.

fullmoonfiend · 14/08/2006 17:39

I wish I could come
But I'm glad I'm not going, if that makes sense!

Quootiepie · 14/08/2006 17:40

Bumble... same as me but I put my name down ill talk to you if you talk to me?

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 14/08/2006 17:41

I will talk to anyone, maybe not coherently but I will still talk, and perhaps i wont remember the conversation but will deffo still be chatting away...

mykidsmum · 14/08/2006 17:41

fmf i was only going to go if you were

Beetroot · 14/08/2006 17:43

i had great fun with a wheel chair.

oh and it was my room first Crunchi, custy etc...

mykidsmum · 14/08/2006 17:43

actually that sounds a bit bad, what i meant was if you were going i would consider it more seriously as i know we have stuff in common i could talk to you about. Sure I have lots in common with other Mners, in fact i know I do but i just kinda know i would feel comfortable with you

Bumblelion · 14/08/2006 17:56

Quootiepie, I will talk to you if you talk to me, but how will we know who each other is?

fullmoonfiend · 14/08/2006 18:23

Aw Mykidsmum I just can't afford it that time of year, sadly. Ds's both have birthdays close and dh and then Christmas...and I would have to pay a fortune on train fare and hotel etc

suzywong · 15/08/2006 01:07

Mars, I will either be in Ferme Park Road end of Crouchy or "Upper Holloway" near Suicide Bridge. Or the doorway of that "Best Kebabs in North London" shop by the Nat West in Archway - that's if we dont' get on

suzywong · 15/08/2006 01:10

not Upper Holloway " Lower Highate", that's the point of the joke, innit. It's too early and I am still smarting from discovering I am not on yet another Uber-Clique thread singling out MNers, this time for acutal physical affection, Tut.
