Another one for the 23rd! Excellent!

Katy44 · 12/02/2007 14:58

Can someone please come round and write on my calendar?
Or shall I just try to get the 23rd off as well and then the confusion will stop for me?!
Thisnk I might try to do that - Indith, could you handle one less cake?

NicolaDavis · 12/02/2007 19:27

Hi,

Can you tell me where and when on the 23rd having a hard time following thread.

Thanks
Nicola

kiskidee · 13/02/2007 09:05

i don't think anyone mentioned a time on the 23rd yet but seeing that 10am has already been mentioned for the previous Friday, then 10 AM on Friday the 23rd is good for me too.

Katy44 · 14/02/2007 07:42

Bump
Indith, I thought I would try to get next Friday (23rd) off instead so i can join in the big meet up. Is that OK with you?

Katy44 · 14/02/2007 17:43

bump

Katy44 · 15/02/2007 09:06

Bump
Indith - I hope you get this today

Indith · 15/02/2007 09:46

Argh sorry! I'm rubbish, totally forgot (rats and landladies and plasterers can do that to a girl) anyway this slipped off my thread list and I never noticed.

That's ok Katy though I am now furthering my rubbish status and running away from the rats to Hull until we get the all clear from pest control.

Indith · 15/02/2007 09:47

Oh and my flat is clean dammit! I blame the students next door

Katy44 · 15/02/2007 09:50

Oh no! When did all this happen? Hope you get the rats evicted soon
Are you still able to make next Friday (23rd)? Hope you have a safe journey to Hull.

Indith · 15/02/2007 10:35

Found one in the kitchen cupboard! (well found the eaten bread and then it ran out 2 mins later). That was Monday, pest control ar coming abck tomorrow then the followinf Friday so I'll probably be in Hull then (leaving dp with the rats!).

Bevspooner · 15/02/2007 21:56

Monkey,

No I'm from washington way.... so whens this meet up happening and where?

I vote for Vennels as long as I don't get judged for having an enormous helping of carrot cake......yummy

Katy44 · 16/02/2007 08:32

Right, a decision!! the 23rd - next Friday - at 10am in Vennels?
Is that OK?
(Saying that I might not be there, although sure I'll be able to get the time off )

Indith · 16/02/2007 10:27

Bev stick to the lemon or the new spiced`apple, the other cakes have decreased in size dramatically yet remained the same size!

Yes I do spend too much time in there.

Katy44 · 16/02/2007 11:32

I seem to remember the chocolate fudge cake looking very tempting last time! As well as the hot choc!
Indith, are you not going to be able to make it then?
Who is coming?

Bevspooner · 16/02/2007 18:53

I'll come

mmmmmm....choc fudge cake!!

(yes I'm all about the cake)

so its the 23rd at 10??

who else is going?

inside or out?

janeite · 16/02/2007 19:00

I went to Durham for the first time this week and thanks to this thread, went to Vennels! It was lovely, so many thanks to you all!

Indith · 16/02/2007 20:39

Doubt it

And the choc cake also about half the size it used to be. Honestly, happened about 3 weeks ago I think (I'm in there on average twice a week). We've been branching out, trying new places but nothing compares

Katy44 · 17/02/2007 09:36

There was a place with lots of stairs next to the body shop, seem to remember that being nice - Indith is that still there? Or would the stairs cause a problem for lots of people?
Also there's somewhere on Millburngate Bridge isn't there, which again I remember having very nice cakes?

Indith · 17/02/2007 12:00

The one next to the body shop is rumbletums, good for bacon butties etc, ok slices.

If you keep going down the same stairs and follow it round you come to Leonards, ok scones, tiffin and flapjack. Good sized coffee and hot chocolate.

The one on Milburngate bridge you are thinking of was cafe continental. It is now located next to Patricks Pizza on the corner of Elvet Bridge up lots and lots of stairs. Cakes vary in goodness, they don't bake fresh so sometimes they are nice and moist other times they seem to have been waiting around and are dry. Cakes also expensive (£3.45 I think) and service is shocking, we waited 45 mins for coffee the other day and the time before that after a similar wait for our drinks and food they didn't bring us cuttlery we had to go looking for it and by the time we got some anything hot was cold.

Now on Milburngate bridge where CC used to be is Esquires. Think it is a chain, don't know about cakes but I'm told they do soya hot chocolate if anyone has lactose intolorance!

The rest of them are all chains I think. As said in previous post, nothing compares to Vennels we have tried and tested pretty much everywhere! Cake sizes is poo but if you choose right you can still get a pretty good one and they have started doing their scones all day instead of just morning and I have not managed to beat a Vennels scone yet.

Katy44 · 17/02/2007 12:13

Ooh I could just fancy a scone!

Indith · 17/02/2007 12:15
Katy44 · 17/02/2007 12:25

definitely the best plan!

Katy44 · 19/02/2007 19:33

So, is this meet up definitely happening on Friday then? 10am in Vennels? Who can make it?

kiskidee · 20/02/2007 01:19

i still can, can you Katy? who else?

never been to vennels but now will have to find it and try their cakes.
