havn't been around (again !) for ages....busy busy busy !! Had 3 people around to view ours and received first offer...we're going to sit tight for another month to see what happens though DH is off to Taiwan tomorrow for 8 days so everything will go mad now I;m sure.....how are your children getting on at Millfield JUP...are they loving it...what do you think of it...I wonder if they could end up in the same class..... my DS will be 6 in Jan so he'll still be pre-prep...would love to meet up when we move.....catch up soon :)

Jup · 05/05/2006 18:03

Hiya streepy My DD will be six in October she is in reception at the moment, the other is in year three. so first year at prep.
They love it they dont want to come home. LOL the older one wants to bored bless him.

Jup · 05/05/2006 18:05

LOL just noticed my spelling LOL maybe I should go and find my glasses Blush

Steppy1 · 06/05/2006 05:37

Really excited...maybe we can organise a somerset meet up in the summer.... how long is the drive into Glastonbury from Yeovil JUP, we thought it looked like a good half an hour in the morning so had kind of ruled it out.... presumably you do the run twice a day.... Really interested in anybody's input about activites for little ones...would love to get DD involved in a couple of things as we're not sure where we're going to be based yet...even if the propoerty does come together in Stawall, we'll be renting for 6 months as we' want to do some building work on it....she's used to doing 4 sessions a week at pre school and loves painting and dancing....and all the other things that little girlies love at 3 !!!!

Jup · 06/05/2006 18:30

If you drive like me the school run is 20 mins, if farmer Jo is out on the rouds it takes 25-30 But I have come to really like it and it doesnt bother me much

Steppy1 · 10/05/2006 18:08

...going for a look around again on saturday...we're at open day for school then viewing a couple of properties in the afternoon ....all very exciting

Steppy1 · 12/05/2006 13:24

...just had details through of another property in "Moorland" just off the M5...looks really exciting.... hope to catch up with you all soon !

beety · 12/05/2006 13:26

it wil be quite a drive into street if you are just off the M5. I would look closer to Street. I spent two years doing a half hour drive there and back for school and it nearly drove me insane. There are some great places nearer imo.

Steppy1 · 12/05/2006 13:47

...thanks Beety, I did wonder about the drive and I've put half an hour as the maximum....we'll see if the house wins us over versus the drive !!!! let you know Sunday/monday

beety · 12/05/2006 14:35

have you looked at Coxley? They ahve some new houses there. Not sure what size but one is 7 bed and very nice (for a new house 0Wink

PeachyClair · 12/05/2006 14:54

Hiya

We're from Somerset, currently studying away but may be back in a few years. we're from bridgwater but wn't go vback there. Used to work at Strode College and Dh was in MAsqueraders CC in Meare so know your neck of the woods well (and my Aunt lives in benedict Street!)

Steppy1 · 12/05/2006 17:43

..nothing wrong with new houses but not our bag really....we're much more of moneypit-type old houses that cost a fortune in maintenance and keeping up to date....though we have been in a new(ish) house when we lived in Sussex...it was a fab. Scandihus with triple glazing and all eco friendly (veeery different from drafty old houses ) I'll take a look in Coxley through prime location but (ideally) looking for old farmhousey type -fancy myself as a bit of a Ma larkin...without the cooking !!!:o

Steppy1 · 12/05/2006 17:45

...just done quick search....prime location came up with sonderful grade II listed mill with annexe....right up our street...except for the price of ....£775k (shock)

Steppy1 · 08/07/2006 15:26

Any somerset mums give us input on Charlton Mackrell...just received some details about a lovely cottage for sale...still not sold ours in Wiltshire (sad) but hoping to soon so that we can move to somerset Thank you !

joelallie · 10/07/2006 13:43

Well it's very pretty....and there's a hell of a lot of money in that area . DH says that he didn't know how many wealthy people there are round this area until he started doing building work

It's a small village in beautiful countryside. Have a feeling that it's not far from Ilminster but I may be wrong there. Don't know much else I'm afraid.

Steppy1 · 13/07/2006 16:16

...thanks joelallie....we're still searching...had two offers on ours but both not in a proceedable position, so bl frustrating...especial when my mum keeps saying "it'll happen when it's meant to be..." she's probably right !!!!!! Great to know that your DH is a builder too !!!!

joelallie · 14/07/2006 16:24

Ooooohh!! So frustrating!! But 'it'll happen when it's meant to be'..... [shakes head in wise and knowing fashion]...

What made you choose Somerset particularly?

toriasomerset77 · 17/07/2006 10:29

Hi yeovil mum here of two baby boys, 16 months and 2 and half. Handful but love it. Hubby works away so adult talk is limited, always like more friends. Thank god for the playroom and park in front of house. Love being at home but still need more than ceebies and nick jr, lol

Fancy a chat or coffee give me a shout

Hi joelallie....our decision came about as one of those "discussions" which centred around our DS education (he started school in September!) and with my DH turning 50 last october. One of those "what if we could sell up and get rid of the mortgage" converations and "where could we move to" etc etc etc. We spent around 6 Saturdays (with DS and DD in tow) looking at various places in Somerset and fell in love with it...

joelallie · 20/07/2006 12:41

Not surprised you fell in love....it's very lovely especially at this time of year Did you have a look at the house in Charlton Mackrell? Any luck with selling your place yet?

Steppy1 · 24/07/2006 14:31

...we're still on the market, have interest from a couple (with two daughters) that havn't sold theirs yet (see the state agent link !!!) We looked at a house in Chedzoy yesterday, had a drive to CM (liked it !!) then went swimming at the Lido in Street...had a lovely time feel that we're becoming part of Somerset already....getting so frustrated about ours...so much so that thinking of putting an ad in the local paper ourselves......

joelallie · 24/07/2006 18:38

Greenbank pool is lovely isn't it? We do that about once a month - but quite pricey for a family of 5. But once you're there you can stay a while.

Just to add a note of caution about houses on the Levels.....they get quite a few floods in the winter. I don't think that Chedzoy itself has many problems but the surrounding area can be a bit dodgy. Might be an idea to check up on any area that you are thinking seriously of. When we move out of Bridgy we're aiming to go West and up

Steppy1 · 27/07/2006 18:17

thanks Joelallie....DH has checked the flood info line out for areas and has highlighted the flood areas on the map (very organised !!!!) Chedzoy wasn't one that was listed as you rightly say....DH and DS really loved the outdoor pool and can't wait to go back which we may do tomorrow as we're going back to look at property we saw last week...plus another one !!!! Have placed an ad privately in our local regional property section......

joelallie · 31/07/2006 13:15

Fingers crossed for your house then!

I mentioned the flood issue because it's something that seems to be getting worse (for obvious reasons I suppose) but it isn't something that occurs to people when they visit in blazing summer sun.

Steppy1 · 02/08/2006 18:17

....think we've got fed up with waiting so...... (take a deep breath hoping that we're doing the right thing !!) we've pretty much made the decision to rent our house out here in Wilts then rent in Somerset, get the children settled into school then review next year..subject to everything coming together of course !!!!!
