Week 4 (or is it 3?!) Jan '25 Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all.

Whether it's 3 or 4, this is the point that you can switch to Bootcamp Light if you wish - which means allowing fruit (some - mainly berries), nuts and seeds (just be careful with the carb counts - check the spreadsheet/back of packet) and chocolate (some - at least 70% cocoa). But still no alcohol. Sorry!

As ever, Here's the spreadsheet

I was trawling for something different to cook this week, and there was a great recipe in The Guardian's Feast magazine on Saturday, for pork chops, with manzanilla-braised leeks. It's 100ml manzanilla between 4 people, and obviously the alcohol will cook out, so I think I might try that. (I was trying to find a link, but for some reason the recipe isn't online).

Anyone else cooking something new/different this week?

I was in such a rush to eat it I forgot to take a picture but my duck breasts with celeriac and swede colcannon, and pan fried sprouts was absolutely delicious 😋.

Really hoping for a loss tomorrow because I'm sure I feel lighter.

Still going here. I weighed myself at the gym and I'm another 2lb down. Another 2lb until target!

Had a meal out last night. It was at a Turkish restaurant so had a lovely mixed grill sans rice and bread. Plus an avocado, artichoke and feta salad to start. I did however have 2 vodka and sodas, but I've been to the gym today and currently sipping on sparkling water instead of my usual pre roast wine.

B. 2x boiled eggs
L. Feta, avo and sauerkraut
D. Roast pork & chicken with buttered cabbage

I finally got round to getting an electrolyte! So definitely feeling less thirsty.

venusandmars · 26/01/2025 22:58

I want a MN thing that says 'yummy'. I did a thumbs up agree. But that looks great.

@CleanQueen123 it is such a nice feeling to 'feel' thinner. I sometimes find that the feeling and the actual weight don't align exactly but it's all going in the right direction.

Had roast guineafowl for lunch, with oven roast tomato, buttered cabbage, leeks (and a few peas). Gravy made from the juices and carrot and shallot cooked under the fowl. Delicious. Meat left over for something... The bones and gravy in the slow cooker to make soup. The skin ready to crisp up in the oven.

Feeling full and satiated, and had half an avocado for dinner.

But I've had to shut the kitchen door, and the door to the rest of the house, and our bedroom door - all in attempt to avoid the delicious smell of soup wafting to my bedroomat 4am. I've been there before. Dreams of delicious food waking me up, and being so hungry that I've had to get up and eat cheese and biscuits in the middle of the night.

Don't beat yourself up about it @RockyRogue1001 - shit happens, as they say! Plenty of other occasions to be dry.

@prettybird I wonder if it was so wet because I used larger leeks instead of small ones? They do exude a lot of liquid. I have some pork shoulder steaks in the freezer, so might try it again but with smaller leeks - seeing as I now have the bottle of sherry in the fridge! (And would definitely prefer the steaks rather than chops, which everyone here found a bit too difficult to eat)

This dropped into my inbox this morning, so may be worth a look. We're mid-celeriac season too, so should be easy to find them in the supermarket.

There was also a lovely-sounding recipe in the Guardian's Feast magazine yesterday, for a one-tin roast cauliflower and paneer curry (a Rukmini Iyer recipe). I can't find it online, although it is on the Feast app, if anyone has that. I'm going to try it next week, so if it's successful I'll post the recipe.

Oh, there are so many delicious things in that list! That's my problem with this woe, too many delicious things, not enough meal times!

KittenPause · 26/01/2025 23:20

That's a great celeriac recipe list @BIWI

I need to start being more adventurous but I'm very happy with what I cook so far but it's good to have alternatives for when I'm fed up with it

DD says I look slimmer so that's spurned me on to keep going

I keep getting headaches though

I'm drinking plenty of water and eating enough.

I'm on top of my portion sizes and have introduced Brazil nuts and frozen fruit which I defrost over night and add to my FFGY. And honey dew melon because I love melon with ground ginger on it

No alcohol yet because I go into an eating frenzy especially after wine.

DD is eating much healthier due to this WOE. She's revising a lot so I'm cooking for her more often. Less pasta and more meat and veg like chicken stroganoff with mushrooms or a Chinese stir fry (she'll have rice though)

CleanQueen123 · 26/01/2025 23:25

@venusandmars yes, I'm hoping the feeling and the scales are going to match up when I weigh tomorrow!

KittenPause · 26/01/2025 23:26

I find with Pork shoulder it needs to be marinated overnight and cooked for longer on a lower temp like 160

I've given up on meat really in the slow cooker apart from gammon or a whole chicken I'm using in another dish like making wraps or something where crispy skin is irrelevant

RockyRogue1001 · 26/01/2025 23:51

Wanted to wish everyone luck for weigh day tomorrow.
I'm back on programme
A strict day today with definitely no alcohol, and no desire for it, which was nice.

RachelGreensHair · 26/01/2025 23:57

Did weigh today, down 1kg. Did 10k steps today and some Pilates.
Breakfast was a protein and banana smoothie.
Lunch was tuna salad in pitta.
Dinner was a black bean mexican salad. Followed by a few strawberries.
Gonna start strength training tomorrow :)

KittenPause · 27/01/2025 01:07

Are you on the wrong thread @RachelGreensHair

This is LCBC so definitely no pitta, bananas or black beans for that matter

Unless I'm mistaken @BIWI

Baystard · 27/01/2025 07:19

Awful week for a variety of reasons, and I've been eating dreadfully and not following the thread. About to get on the scales today, and will restart!

Haven't caught up with the thread yet, but will get reading later.

BIWI · 27/01/2025 08:19

So awful you posted it twice @Baystard Grin

@RachelGreensHair you're on the wrong thread, I'm afraid! Bananas, pitta and beans are definitely not allowed on Bootcamp.

Just about to go and post the final weigh-in chat thread.
