Week 4 (or is it 3?!) Jan '25 Low Carb Bootcamp

Morning all.

Whether it's 3 or 4, this is the point that you can switch to Bootcamp Light if you wish - which means allowing fruit (some - mainly berries), nuts and seeds (just be careful with the carb counts - check the spreadsheet/back of packet) and chocolate (some - at least 70% cocoa). But still no alcohol. Sorry!

As ever, Here's the spreadsheet

I was trawling for something different to cook this week, and there was a great recipe in The Guardian's Feast magazine on Saturday, for pork chops, with manzanilla-braised leeks. It's 100ml manzanilla between 4 people, and obviously the alcohol will cook out, so I think I might try that. (I was trying to find a link, but for some reason the recipe isn't online).

Anyone else cooking something new/different this week?

I pulled out that recipe too @BIWI Smile

I'm down to 12st 1.75lb, so now officially 1lb below where I got to on Christmas Eve Xmas Smile

Only 2lb to go to get to under 12st Grin

SemmaLina · 20/01/2025 08:45

Another pound bites the dust !
Down to 11-06 , which I’m delighted with

Leeks in Sherry … mmmm , we grew leeks in our veg patch , not terribly successful, look like over grown spring onions
DH cooking tonight ( he’ll be ploughing through the Michale Mosesly book to find something simple )

I will find a new recipe and try it out later in the week ( might be duck , if I can find the Lidl duck legs … )

Thanks again @BIWI for all you do

Morning all. A bit annoyed as I have been clocking a 1-1.5lb loss the last few days but this morning the scales are reading only 0.5lb down. I woke up feeling "heavy" though so not surprised. I know it is just normal fluctuation but I do like my "official" Monday weigh in to be a good one 😄

This is also the same weigh I got stuck around at the end of the last bootcamp, so my mission by the end of January is have felt like I've definitely cleared this number that keeps sticking, even if it is only by a pound.

NoCarbsForMe · 20/01/2025 09:08

@ReconstructionSite I'm also at the lowest I got to last boot camp I think, before xmas came along and buggered it up!

I'm going to try to stick with this way of eating most of the time. It's the only thing that has worked for me in years. I really don't want to just lose and gain the same few pounds any more!

So grateful for this area of mumsnet 💛

Iheartmysmart · 20/01/2025 10:01

Morning everyone. Sorry I fell off the end of the last chat and haven’t caught up yet. I promise I’ve been sticking to the rules though! Don’t want @BIWI to come after me with The Big Stick.

Have been trying out some of the recipes in my new book. Some more successful than others. But that might just be my cooking.

I’ve lost about 8lbs since the start of boot camp, for some reason though my measurements haven’t changed massively. Probably a 3 inch loss overall.

B - yogurt with cream
L - crustless quiche with salad
D - roasted salmon with veggies

I agree @NoCarbsForMe and think I’ll also be sticking with this WoE going forward.

BusyFrizzyLizzie · 20/01/2025 10:08

Managed to behave myself over the weekend. The Turkish restaurant came up trumps with a huge pile of grilled meat and delicious salad. I just made sure I sat at the opposite end of the table to the bread!

Slightly disappointed with my 2.1lb loss because I look and feel much lighter. The first time I did BC I lost 6lbs in my first week! However, 2lbs is not nothing and I shall keep on keeping on.

Today I will go for
L: tuna mayo with celery and peppers
D: roast chicken with salad and broccoli.

poorbuthappy · 20/01/2025 10:26

1lb loss for me this week. Little bit disappointed but it's all good
Chicken salad for lunch and then broccoli soup for tea. Made soup on Friday and had to throw it out as the mozzarella was off and I didn't realise it. I almost cried. 😬

venusandmars · 20/01/2025 10:31

Another half pound off. But it's all in the right direction.

L - salmon pate with salad
D - beef chilli with sour cream, gaucamole, cheese and some broccoli

Ooh those recipes look good, thanks @BIWI I'll browse them this morning before I go shopping.

Almahart · 20/01/2025 10:45

I'm at 12 stone 3. I'd love to get below 12 stone by the end of this four week camp, but I know I can get quite stuck in weeks 3&4

KittenPause · 20/01/2025 12:05

We've made it to week 4 !!! YAY !!!

I'll probably introduce a couple of Brazil nuts a day because that's what I was having before anyway. I like the crunch.

I feel so much lighter and more comfortable in my clothes. Also more energy because at the start I felt the low carb flu thing and lack of energy but that's now turned itself on its head.

B 2 fried eggs 🍳 and 2 slices bacon 🥓

The plan for later which could change
L FFGY and a salad 🥗
D chicken and assorted veg with mayo dressing

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/01/2025 14:13

6lbs since the start of BC, 10lbs since Christmas and almost 2lbs this week. Pretty steady over 1lb off per week which is fine by me because I plan to stick to this (adding booze!) for the next few months at least. We're on a beach holiday in June so that's the goal.

The weekend was a pork belly and remoulade feast. I love pork belly and it's an excellent example of why this works. You make it, all crunchy and fatty, but when you eat it, you can only stomach so much because the fat is so satiating and a little sickly after too many bites. Remoulade, I have to be careful. It is moreish and celeriac isn't spinach!

RatatatCat · 20/01/2025 14:39

Well done for everyone's losses!

Not much change today, I'm a daily weigh'er and was a little lighter during the last week, but had a wedding tasting at the weekend and although I did very well, I had to taste the carb components of the dishes plus choose the wines (which probably equated to a small glass) so possibly why I'm seeing no change.

Anyway apart from that I've been sticking to BC and am going to continue on full BC for another week

Today
B. Coffee & cream
L. Pork with fried eggs and spinach
D. Steak & broccoli

Baystard · 20/01/2025 15:24

I've gained this week but considering what I've [not] eaten I conclude that it can only be water, and therefore I will KOKO.

KittenPause · 20/01/2025 15:57

No Lidl Greek yogurt in stock only the Greek style which I'm not fond of. Will have to just wait for my online shop delivery

Greek style yogurt isn't strained as many times as it's not as creamy

KittenPause · 20/01/2025 17:43

So late lunch was a lot of mushrooms cooked as a stroganoff minus sour cream because I didn't have any. Delicious regardless and exact same flavour

Lidl seems to go through phases of having supply problems with the Authentic Greek Yoghurt (I believe other supermarkets have also had problems) Sad

I've taken to always ensuring that I have at least 2 tubs of it in my fridge, just in case Grin. If the tub isn't opened, it lasts much longer than the "Best Before" Date Wink

CleanQueen123 · 20/01/2025 18:03

3lbs down this week so back to where I was a fortnight ago. The only way is down from here!

NoCarbsForMe · 20/01/2025 19:19

Had an annoying day in front of the computer today.

B : coffee/cream
FFGY tiny bit of keto granola
L: Salmon with left over cauliflower cheese
D: Salad nicoise
4 pints water so far

Leaving20 · 20/01/2025 19:52

1lb loss here so well pleasedd with that. Onward -

i've dicovered duck breast. What a delicious thing! But then i ate 2 as no one in the house wanted any Blush! KOKO

ColouringPencils · 20/01/2025 21:58

An economical day for me -
Breakfast - finished pot of Greek yoghurt
Lunch - leftovers from last night's roast
Dinner - veg soup made from last night's leftover veg (topped with lardons, cheese and crispy leeks 😋)

Well done on all the losses! 💐👏

I have tried the duck breast, too, but I wasn't really a fan. I think I probably cooked it badly as my skin was still quite fatty (had to take it off) and the meat quite dry. I am not normally fussy, but this didn't do it for me.

I am probably being stupid, but is next week the last week of this bootcamp? Do people then stay chatting on a different thread in 'non-bootcamp' time, or do you only meet up when there is a bootcamp on?

prettybird · 20/01/2025 22:14

Trick with duck breast is to cook it (seasoned) skin side down on a medium/high heat but from a cold start, until the skin is crispy (about 8 minutes?), turn over and cook a couple of minutes. Pour away some of the fat and then put it in the oven at 180C for about 8 minutes (ie much less than the instructions on the pack). Leave to rest for c5 minutes.
