Jan '24 Dry Bootcamp - our last week

BIWI · 22/01/2024 10:49

Morning all. Hope Storm Isha didn't do any/too much damage.

Here's the spreadsheet - hopefully fixed now!

Although this started out as a 4-week challenge, I realise of course, that January is the never-ending month, so we'll continue right to the bitter end, which will be a week on Wednesday!

Don't panic though - I will be starting another one for February, only this time it doesn't have to be a dry one.

I'll start the next one 'afresh' so it gives other people a chance to join us, which means that (if you want to) the first two weeks will be the usual strict Bootcamp. If you're happy on Bootcamp Light, or you simply want to be able to have a drink (!), then it's entirely up to you.

So thinking about our last ten days - what do you realistically want to be able to achieve? I'm still hoping to get the scales to start with 9 rather than 10, but that does mean I'm going to have to be super strict, as that leaves me with 3.25 lbs to lose. I have two meals out before the end of the month, but they're both in places I know I can make good choices, and I'm finding it easier to forgo the alcohol too, so I'm not too worried about those.

For me, then, it's a weight challenge - but it doesn't have to be weight. It could be a specific item of clothing (thinking about those of us who have holidays coming up), or your measurements, or anything else that you think you can work towards over the next ten days.

I keep typing up posts and losing them and I'm going slowly crazy. So this is a quick one before I do it again and lose my mind.

  • 2.2lb off so woohoo
  • Goal for bootcamp was simply to stick with. It's going really well so I will add a small goal of one more loss for the upcoming week, to make 4 in a row.
  • Will definitely be carrying on beyond this.
  • Will make a point of drinking even more water this week.
Thesoundofmusic23 · 22/01/2024 11:13

Thanks for starting the next one @BIWI - feeling more energy this morning. Husband seems to be going the other way and struggling with it so suspect I will continue into Feb but he won’t.

potas · 22/01/2024 11:15

Half a pound off this week. Doesn't sound great but every little bit helps!
Looking back I have eaten too many nuts and dairy this last week. Old snacking habits creeping in. But I have also eaten some fabulous family meals so really if I can maintain weight and eat a more varied and healthier diet with my family then that's a win for me (my family are carby meat eaters and I am low carb veggie - it's hard to meet in the middle sometimes)

cathyandclaire · 22/01/2024 11:16

Thanks @BIWI will be with you til the bitter end!

My aim was 8lb off during Jan, so that leaves me ( like you) with 3lb to go. That's a challenge for us shorties but I'm going to stick with the target. I'm still virally, so only eaten sugar free sweets/ lozenges for the last 24 hours which isn't exactly boot camp but should speed things up! On the plus side I am mainlining fluids.

FairlyOddmother · 22/01/2024 11:19

Thanks for the new thread. STS this week but I had an unavoidable Chinese takeaway (ordered braised beef brisket but no doubt the sauce was carby) so I'll happily take that. Aim for the next ten days is to get below 13st - 3lbs to go so I'm being super strict and drinking alll the water.

Will happily sign up for the next boot camp, I've a lot to lose so in it for the long haul!

BIWI · 22/01/2024 11:28

Just running my eye down the columns for this week, both loss this week and loss overall, and there are some really good results. Especially looking at the weekly column, given that week 3 is very frequently a time where weight loss slows or stops.

Really well done everyone! Flowers

Now, if only I could get the magic 'sleep through the night' benefit of being dry, I'd be a very happy woman!

Incidentally, anyone who didn't enter a weight last week has been hidden on the spreadsheet.

(I haven't deleted you yet, but I'm assuming that you no longer want to be on there - let me know if otherwise.)

Marking my place on the new thread. I'll definitely be join in the Feb BC - im
Hugely grateful to you @BIWI and everyone else running these.

My goal would be to get under 80kg this week, but it would require another kg so fingers crossed.

I made the moussaka last night, but the lamb mince was 20% fat and it was not great. I know fat is important but that was just too much! I think next time I'll make aubergine park and skip the lamb mince altogether. That said, I did add the lemon juice to the cheese sauce and it did taste nicer.

I'm going to buy myself a new winter coat as a treat / non food reward - still some lovely ones in the sales.

SpinningTops · 22/01/2024 11:50

Another 1lb off for me which I'm pleased with. Slow and steady. I am aiming to do 3 days or do a week of intermittent fasting and eat only between 12 and 8. I think that's the only thing that will help shift the last few lbs for me. I have about 5 to go until I'm back to where clothes fit well and I feel good in the mirror. So I think I'll carry on into February.

My main aims for the final stretch. Would be nice to lose another 1lb but my biggest aim is to avoid the fruity tea loaf I baked for the kids after school snacks. It smells delicious and I think this will the only thing I need to grit my teeth to avoid. Managed a cafe with a friend this morning without cake and found that absolutely fine!

Well done for all the other losses. I've screenshotted the cannelloni which I will try get the ingredients for. Looks delicious.

EffortlessDistraction · 22/01/2024 12:01

Checking in, surprisingly I have STS despite falling off the wagon, I had a tough week last week and am not out of the woods yet. Going to just try and hang on in now till the next BC.

blackteaplease · 22/01/2024 12:05

Found you. My push for this last week is to hit 175lbs bringing me to overweight and out of obese. Just over a lb to go so it should be achievable.

poorbuthappy · 22/01/2024 12:11

Afternoon LCers

2lb off. Total loss 9lb. Very happy.
I'm now the same weight as I was when I started low carb in Oct 20. 🙄
Stomach has gone down considerably which being menopausal I am very happy with.

Didn't have a great week water wise and really had to up my game over the weekend. Need to carry that forward.

Also can anyone recommend somewhere nice in Bath to eat low carb and not low carb pls? Going out on the 2nd Feb and do not want to fall off wagon. Ta.
Let's have a good week!

Nestnearlyempty · 22/01/2024 12:19

Hello everyone and thanks again @BIWI For the new thread and for the BC. I’m definitely in for Feb as I need to establish consistency and accountability through a tough few work weeks…

I had a 0.2lb gain over the week which I am ok with due to work and son birthday this weekend- hidden carbs in many things I think.

this coming week is an opportunity to push for my January goal of losing 8lb which is totally doable. And I am still dry which I am very pleased about too.

B: FFGY &cream
L: leftover pulled pork, lettuce wraps, cheese and dip/mayo.
D: scrambled eggs, Parma ham, avocado, leftover veg from last night.

bluesupermoon · 22/01/2024 12:36

I'm in for Feb too! So much easier doing this with likeminded folks.
Made the halloumi & leeks yesterday, was delicious!

blackteaplease · 22/01/2024 12:55

Ooh new NSV today. I've had to tighten my watch strap by a notch.

venusandmars · 22/01/2024 13:17

0.4lb down. I thought it might be more given recent sickness. But koko anyway. Appetite hasn't really returned to normal which should help, but I've also temporarily lost my mojo for cooking nice things, so it's been a bit haphazard.

My dream for this bc is to get below 150, but still got 2.6lbs to go... and I've got 2 meals out this week. Wednesday will be entirely manageable, good options on the menu - just have to stay away from the wine. Thursday I'll drive, so no problems on the drinking front, but it's a Burns night party at friends' so haggis, neeps and tatties. I'll minimise the tatties but can't avoid the carbs in the haggis. Will possibly eat a late lunch and plead a continued loss of appetite.

Off to drink some water.

Almahart · 22/01/2024 13:31

I seem to have disappeared from the spreadsheet - perhaps I forgot to fill it in last week. Anyway, sts and am going to keep going into Feb. Sorry not able to post much atm for various reasons, but still koko!

I’ve used yesterday’s weight on the chart as this morning was up by 2lbs. An overnight gain of 2lbs which I’m thinking is not enough water over the weekend plus some vegan millionaire’s shortbread DD1 had made for work colleagues and insisted I try ‘because it’s actually not that bad’ and it wasn’t but… grrrr. Plus I’ve been dipping into the tub of cashews. Quite a lot of dipping I was (and am) keen to stay strict so heaven knows why I dived into the cashews! And I could have tried the tiniest crumb of DDs baking. Such an idiot as yesterday I was ecstatic at my loss and today annoyed at myself thinking I could get away with it. I’m away skiing on Sunday and it’s all inclusive and I just know it’ll be carby & boozy. Didn’t really want to arrive on the back foot but will have to keep it reined in not only this week but whilst we are away. I’m definitely up to koko into Feb! I’ve now got 12lbs to lose not 10!
off to have water!!!

TheOnlyMrsW · 22/01/2024 14:31

1/2lb off which I'm v surprised about but will take, just 1 to go to get to my target of 7lb off for this BC which is totally doable as long as I stay focussed. Busy for the next 2 weeks with a fair few pitfalls to negotiate so going to do 16:8 wherever possible and stay dry (at least until 31st which is DH's birthday).
Food has been ok over the weekend, DH cooked souvlaki on Friday, Saturday was slow cooker beef and broccoli from the Bored of Lunch book but without the cornflour, and roast dinner yesterday but swerved the potatoes. The beef dish asked for sweet chilli sauce but I'm not keen so used a spicy sriracha instead which had 25g carbs per 100g when I checked the label - thankfully only 2 teaspoons in the pot!!!!!
This week I have an office day to negotiate, a full day tattoo sitting, MiL visiting from Friday, then dinner out on Sunday so need to be very well-planned. Then next week we still have DH's birthday on the 31st, MiL still until 1st Feb and off to our first festival of the year on the 2nd Feb. This is also the first anniversary of losing mum so head will be properly pickled (and I need to make sure that I'm not!!!!). @NotDonna I love haggis and would normally make a Burns dinner for DH and MiL but we've agreed to not bother this year so I don't have to do too much cooking...............she's very lovely and always offers to help with house things when she's here despite being 84!!!!!
Have a good week everyone, off to come up with some sort of plan to keep my sanity and the lb's off 😂
Thank you again @BIWI, I'll be in for Feb (probably after we get back from our festival though!)

Stayed the same , which while disappointing is not surprising
However , 3 inches off my waist since the start , and the shorts , while snug are not cutting me in half in a most unpleasant way as they did in August when I bought them

NotDonna · 22/01/2024 15:36

@TheOnlyMrsW think you’ve tagged the wrong person. I cannot stand haggis. Cashews on the other hand…

TheOnlyMrsW · 22/01/2024 15:45

Completely correct, it was @venusandmars who was talking about haggis!!! I on the other hand can't stand nuts at all 🤣

prettybird · 22/01/2024 15:56

I'll be having haggis (which I love Grin on Saturday night, so that will be my slight aberration from Boot Camp Wink

I do a starter with griddled scallops, black pudding, creamed celeriac, crispy streaky bacon and apple jelly, then haggis with plenty of well buttered neeps (and mashed potatoes for the others but I don't like mashed potatoes anyway) and I've created a low carb cranachan (flaked almonds instead of oats) so that'll be ok too.
