Jan '24 Dry Bootcamp - our last week

Morning all. Hope Storm Isha didn't do any/too much damage.

Here's the spreadsheet - hopefully fixed now!

Although this started out as a 4-week challenge, I realise of course, that January is the never-ending month, so we'll continue right to the bitter end, which will be a week on Wednesday!

Don't panic though - I will be starting another one for February, only this time it doesn't have to be a dry one.

I'll start the next one 'afresh' so it gives other people a chance to join us, which means that (if you want to) the first two weeks will be the usual strict Bootcamp. If you're happy on Bootcamp Light, or you simply want to be able to have a drink (!), then it's entirely up to you.

So thinking about our last ten days - what do you realistically want to be able to achieve? I'm still hoping to get the scales to start with 9 rather than 10, but that does mean I'm going to have to be super strict, as that leaves me with 3.25 lbs to lose. I have two meals out before the end of the month, but they're both in places I know I can make good choices, and I'm finding it easier to forgo the alcohol too, so I'm not too worried about those.

For me, then, it's a weight challenge - but it doesn't have to be weight. It could be a specific item of clothing (thinking about those of us who have holidays coming up), or your measurements, or anything else that you think you can work towards over the next ten days.

Not particularly thrilled that my 0.2lb gain is still hanging around today but think I’ve figured out my period is due (peri and no idea what’s going on with my body) so I’m hoping that’s it.

Today started off with a tough PT session then:
B: Greek yog and cream
L: home made chicken soup with stock from yesterdays roast sprinkled with a bit of leftover Xmas Stilton (deffo on the turn)
D: will be cottage pie with swede mash, buttery veg

@TheOnlyMrsW its my DH’s bday on the 31st too. We always attempt to do Dry Jan til then, then let ourselves off a day early.

My targets for the rest of BC are to actually finish a BC which I’ve only ever done once back when they used to be 10 weeks, several name changes and sadly several stones ago. And I’d like to lose 8lb in Jan, with an aim of being 13st by Feb half term (4 weeks off).

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 22/01/2024 17:18

Up a pound but I did have a night away from 'dry' this week. (We were bereaved just before Christmas and this was a very very sad family gathering. I made low-carb choices for the drink and stuck to low carb food.)

Not disheartened as I feel better and actually fit smaller trousers better than I did last week.

prettybird · 22/01/2024 17:35

I've had as expected a bit of a rebound but (as if already said I'd do Wink) I'm putting my low point this past week into the Spreadsheet Grin

I did say that my next goal was to stabilise at under 11.5st Smile even if I'm above that today Blush

In good news, I've a) booked my cut & colour for 9th March, just before going off on holiday and b) finally booked the Clarins facial at John Lewis that my dad bought for ny birthday last April (so a bit bittersweet Sad)

In bad news, another of the boughs of our pear tree came down in the gales last night Shock. That's two out of its 5 boughs down now. The really irritating thing is that we were wanting to take down one of the branches (which goes off to the side over the rhododendrons and azaleas) and of course that's still there Hmm I think we're seriously going to have to think of taking down the whole tree, which will unbalance the garden and mean there's no nice shady spot for those occasions we do get sun Wink. I've said to dh we'll have to put in as expensive a tree as we can afford (and can manoeuvre into the garden Hmm) and accept that we'll never see the full benefit of it Sad

No woosh or change here … either my scales or I am malfunctioning! No loss (or gain) since week 1.

Seriously though, I feel great and clothes not as tight so I know good is happening. Not a single cheat of bread, sweet treats or alcohol since started.

I’ve concluded that at 5.1 and late 50s I’m just eating more than I’m using. Am reluctant to start fasting but either that or cut down portion size fairly radically. I know I am eating well . Oh and up the exercise of course. Have seriously upped the water consumption.

I will continue as in the zone but some results on the scales would be welcome soon!

Leedsmum27 · 22/01/2024 17:54

@BIWI can you add me back on the spreadsheet please and I’ll add in my weight

Metabolicallycomplicated · 22/01/2024 18:17

Well my day could have gone better. GP called this morning, booking me an urgent appointment for this afternoon. They’re never proactive when it’s good news so I assumed this was my biopsy results telling me I have endometrial cancer. It wasn’t, it was MRI results telling me I have multiple suspicious lesions on my liver. No symptoms of anything liver related and my liver function tests on bloods have all been normal. It’s my murderous uterus that’s supposed to be trying to off me not my bloody liver ffs.

So major fuckits this evening but I’m too fucked off to eat anything at all. DH has had a takeaway and I’m just sitting here thinking about the fact that DS is only 2 and livers are fucking terrifying when they go wrong. I’m being sent for another MRI to figure out what’s going on (it ranges from benign to very scary) at some point soon but until then I have to just get on with it and ignore the fact this could be absolutely awful.

mimosa1 · 22/01/2024 18:20

Oooph @prettybird please could you share the LC cranachan recipe ?

mimosa1 · 22/01/2024 18:22

Oh @Metabolicallycomplicated we cross posted. I'm so sorry to hear how worried you must be BUT it's great they are being proactive and hopefully it's benign. Flowers

prettybird · 22/01/2024 18:24

I am not a medic, but that sounds like endometriosis on your liver - and endometriosis would also explain all your heavy and prolonged bleeding Sad

It's a crime that it's so difficult to get endometriosis diagnosed - let alone the symptoms taken seriously Angry

prettybird · 22/01/2024 18:29

@mimosa1 Here it is:

Low Carb "cranachan"

Whip up a 300ml tub of double cream to soft peaks. Add a spoonful of inulin (not strictly necessary) and a generous glug of whisky and mix briefly. Stir through raspberries (defrosted frozen one are fine, especially as the juices from them will turn it a nice pink) and some toasted flaked almonds (probably close to a 100g).

Divide amongst 4 glass serving bowls (glasses would do) and refrigerate until required. Decorate with a few raspberries and flaked almonds before serving.

NB: don't overwhip as it will firm up further in the fridge.

Picture is from last year's Burn's Supper.

It could be - I’ve posted the full report in chat to see if there’s any doctors around to give a view - can’t be waiting around another few weeks for a dianosis.

Prinnny · 22/01/2024 18:46

Hubby wanted a Chinese last night so we ordered crispy duck and I had it with one of my keto wraps, was fab. I’m still enjoying this WOE atm but feel I need some more recipes so I’m hoping for some inspiration on this thread :)

@Prinnny have you not checked out all the recipe threads? They're grouped by food type, so there's one for meat, one for poultry etc. All in the Low Carb Bootcamp topic.

BIWI · 22/01/2024 18:50

I'm so sorry to hear that @Metabolicallycomplicated - hopefully you'll get some good advice on your other thread.

OP posts:
BIWI · 22/01/2024 18:52

@Leedsmum27 You don't have that much to lose, so I'm afraid weight loss will be slower.

But why don't you list out for me what you've been eating/drinking over the last few days, and let me see if there's anything I can help with.

alwaysclockwise · 22/01/2024 19:19

@Metabolicallycomplicated I am really sorry about your health problems.Hopefully you'll find out soon what is really going on Flowers
I am surprised I managed to loose what I gained after my night out last week plus a little bit more,I take that!
It just shows that if you stick with it you get the result 👌
Was really tempted to have a drink on Saturday while DH was drinking his ciders but didn't give it and still AF
I am glad so many people already declared to keep going in Feb
I was very happy to see extra columns on the spreadsheet but if another BC starts-that's even better 😁

AllTheBlackCoffee · 22/01/2024 19:33

So sorry to read your update @Metabolicallycomplicated I can’t imagine how worrying that must be. No advice but lots of positive thoughts coming your way Flowers

TheOnlyMrsW · 22/01/2024 19:42

Oh @Metabolicallycomplicated so sorry to hear, you don't seem to be able to catch a break 😭. Hopefully you'll get some good advice and work out a way to negotiate whatever is happening Flowers
@prettybird love your cranachan recipe, it's one of the few desserts I actually like so might treat DH 😊

Sorry for being absent over the weekend. Honestly, where does the time go?! My pre-emptive weighing helped me stay strong through the adult birthday party on Saturday. However, I’m afraid I crumbled in the face of the Colin the Caterpillar cake at the 4 year old birthday party on Sunday. Hopefully not too much damage done.

I’m off skiing on Sunday and will let myself off boot camp for the duration. Too much carby goodness to pass up! However, will be back with a vengeance in February.

RooRooCooChoo · 22/01/2024 20:07

And having now caught up, sorry to hear about your shitty news @Metabolicallycomplicated. Crossing fingers for a good - speedy - result!
