Jan '23 Low Carb Bootcamp - the (in)famous week 3 ...

BIWI · 23/01/2023 08:33

Morning all

Normally I'd link to the spreadsheet, but I'm having an issue with it this morning, as I can't scroll down the list of names and keep getting an error message saying my window isn't big enough to display it. Both on Safari and Chrome, which is odd - so I'm putting a call out for @FinallyHere to see if she can resolve it!

Anyway ...

PLEASE READ THIS POST CAREFULLY!

Welcome to week 3. This is the week where you have a choice. If you wish, you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can now introduce fruit, nuts/seeds, chocolate and alcohol.

SOME.
IN MODERATION.
NOT AT EACH AND EVERY MEAL!

So with fruit, this is mainly berries - when the spreadsheet is sorted, check out the fruit counter on there, which will show you which fruits are best to introduce. Similarly nuts.

With chocolate, make this the highest cocoa content that you can - certainly 70% should be a minimum - and restrict yourself to a couple of square, not a whole bar.

And as to alcohol - it's dry wines and clear spirits, with low calorie mixers or, even better, soda/sparkling water.

Remember we're still on Bootcamp - so be very careful how much of any of these you introduce.

However, week 3 (and 4 and sometimes even 5) is infamous as this is the point where you may see your weight loss slow, stop or even reverse

It's very, very, very common for this to happen, so if it happens to you, don't panic! It's not a stall. It's all about your body settling into this WOE, and what you'll see once we get through the low carb doldrums is your weight loss will continue, albeit at a slower rate of around 1-3lbs a week. (How much you lose will depend on how much you have left to lose).

Bearing this in mind, you may want to stay on strict Bootcamp. There's nothing wrong with this at all - just make sure you are following Bootcamp rules, and that things haven't started to slip. In particular, make sure that you're sticking to rule 4 - i.e. that the majority of your carbs are coming from veg/salad. And don't forget the water!

Some Bootcampers like to do a hybrid, which means strict Bootcamp during the week, relaxing into Bootcamp Light at the weekend. The choice is entirely yours.

Sorry @FinallyHere that link takes me to the October spreadsheet

FinallyHere · 23/01/2023 08:46

hello lovely @BIWI and the bootcampers Apologies, the winter-y weather appears to have disrupted spreadsheet operations as well as LHR. here is my first go with the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness

Happy to post your numbers (from posts here or PM if you prefer) for anyone impacted

I've reported my first post, which worked but was to the old October SofF
This one is reporting a 'window too small' error but i can actually use it on my laptop' Please everyone let me know how you get on with this version.

prettybird · 23/01/2023 08:47

Half a pound up at 11st 11lb but given I've not been feeling well for most of the week and probably not drinking enough water, I'll take that Wink

I managed to resist the siren lure of the dark chocolate for comfort though Grin

FinallyHere · 23/01/2023 08:50

please excuse the peep behind the curtains ...

I've adjusted the freeze panes and can see some updates coming through from people posting their updates. Fingers crossed.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 23/01/2023 08:53

Just shy of 1lb off, slow and steady seems to me my motto this BC. I was showing less on Friday but I've been a bit slack on the water front this weekend plus I was so uncomfortably bloated last night that I'm ok with everything. I also ate the most salty (but amazing) crackling off my pork joint which won't have done much for water retention. I started early too so technically in week three. Anyway, point of the waffle is I'm KOKO and feeling generally quite good at the min Smile

I have an entire day of meetings but have a gap at lunch so am hoping to run and eat during that window.

B: Greek yog, cream
L: omelette
D: might try the chicken shawarma recipe from the thread last week if I can find it.

mimosa1 · 23/01/2023 08:56

Found you! Congratulations to all the losers and KOKOers. 0.7kg off for me this week. Moving to BC light and will see how it goes this week.

Veryfishy · 23/01/2023 09:06

Yep , I’ve put on some of the weight I lost last week
My own stupid fault
Must follow the rules

SpottyBumPony · 23/01/2023 09:10

Week 3 already, how time flies!

6 lb loss this week which is amazing, I was menstruating last week so feel this equals out the first week

I fancy some almond flakes to add to garlic green beans but other than that I don't feel like I need any bootcamp lite allowances right now.

BIWI · 23/01/2023 09:15

@CarbyLite

Picking up on your comment on the last thread - I see from the spreadsheet - now I can get on to it, thank you, @FinallyHere! Flowers) that you started on 1 January, and lost half a stone in your first week - you're now in your week 4, which explains why you haven't seen any loss in the last couple of weeks.

If you lost half a stone in the first week - providing you haven't made any changes - then you know it works for you!

The key is to KOKO. Follow the rules, and it will work for you. I know it feels demoralising, but don't be downhearted. We see this pattern all the time on Bootcamp.

About half a pound off but a loss at all after a weekend away is decent I think.

My boiler is on the blink and new one not due to be fitted for 7 weeks- send warm thoughts!!

Will mostly stick with strict bootcamp but there are some blackberries in freezer which should be good, and I had a sprinkle of low carb home made coconut granola on my yogurt this morning. Nuts and seeds are useful- I'll mostly steer clear of actual nuts but using ground almonds, ground flaxseed and flaked almonds is useful.

LittleMy77 · 23/01/2023 09:21

1lb down on last week, which frankly I’m amazed at because it’s been a really hard week, and weigh in on Saturday was 2lb more than that. I think I’m impacted by too much cheese eating, and am definitely ‘bunged up’

Ive also really annoyingly now got my period 4 days early again. I think peri menopause is shifting gears again, as I approach my 46th birthday :(

MrsTaytodarling · 23/01/2023 09:25

3lbs down...delighted!

katesbushh · 23/01/2023 09:27

5lb down and I've been pretty rubbish with my water. I have loads to lose still but definitely seem less round.

Feeling motivated. Going to be strict all week and maybe have a couple of dry wines over a weekend. Not all the time but it is nice to have the option.
Someone I work with does keto and has skinny beers. It won't let me link. Apparently 3g carbs per bottle
Has anybody heard of them?

Off to the gp in a bit for this strange chest pain I have. Feeling pretty wiped out.

Well done everyone!! Third week!

BIWI · 23/01/2023 09:35

Morning everyone, I've put on about a pond and a half but just finished my period. Am a bit disappointed as I avoided so many carb cravings that come with periods but I'm going KOKO. Going back to the gym today, first time this year! But we came back from Bangladesh beg of this year then we all had the flu and cold so finally feel ready. I've not ordered dark choc bar this week as I can't keep to one square!
Lunch will be roast lamb and Brussels sprouts from last night.
Anyone recommend a good oversized coat that will keep me warm while I do the afterschool clubs. I tend to sit in the car as most places in the evening in Inverness are closed. As the days get lighter, i will go walking with the toddler. I want the coat to still look OK as I lose weight.
Well done on all the losses and maintenance.

BIWI · 23/01/2023 09:37

I like Brewdog's Nanny State which is also alcohol-free. One 330ml can has 3.96g carbs.

Not that we're into week 3 I'm returning to intermittent fasting. I generally find that 16/8 works for me, so 'the kitchen is closed' by 8pm and I eat the next day after 12. I find it helps me keep on top of water too, as if I feel peckidh during the morning (bored mouth not really hunger) then I have something to drink.

Was out last night and still eating at 9.30pm, and have to eat at 11.30am today before I go out, so it will be 14/10 today. I've discovered I've turned into an old person, and can't eat late. Out on Friday = indigestion through the night; out yesterday = indigestion through the night.

Interesting to see some good losses, some small losses and some stay the same. We all have to navigate our own way through this and find out what really works for us. I've been eating my way through a cheese mountain, so definately having less of that this week.

B - nothing
L - egg mayo, salad, avocado
D - chicken stuffed with garlic butter; cavelo nero, cabbage

LadyBiker · 23/01/2023 09:47

Morning all. Found this week really tough and slipped and had a couple of glasses of wine at a party on Saturday (would normally drink much more). Karma that I only lost 1.2lbs, even though the rest of the week I stuck rigidly to low carb. Anyway, I managed to ignore all the buffet stuff including choc cake which is nothing short of a miracle for me. Well done to everyone, let's KOKO!

Skiphopbump · 23/01/2023 09:51

Only 1lb lost, I’ve stuck to the plan and just have to trust the process. It also means I’ve lost just over 40lbs since October which s fabulous!

ditavonteesed · 23/01/2023 10:01

Feeling in need of motivation I've bought myself an air fryer, I have chicken thighs and drumsticks, pork belly and I also picked up one of those nobbly celairiacs. So what do I do with it? I will read back through and try and work it out.

TangledWebOfDeception · 23/01/2023 10:02

Morning everyone! 🌻🌻🌻

I’ve just weighed and have come up .2 kg over last weeks weight, but I’ll just wait until I’ve had my, ahem, poo, (Sorry if you’re about to have breakfast!) and weigh again!

In any case I wasn’t actually expecting to have lost much, if anything, as I can usually tell when I am and I just wasn’t feeling it. I’ve not been drinking much water and I’ve also been too low on veg as I’ve only had a little bit available. But as this is a lifetime thing, one weigh-in here and there is only a blip in the landscape!

Our Riverford delivery finally comes tomorrow, yay! So I’ll be able to get a good amount of veg with every meal. And also finally make proper dishes with considered ingredients, not just whatever quite random bits of veg I have around.

Had a dream this morning that I ate a whole bag of Haribo! Shock Shock The disappointment in myself was so real and so awful, I can still feel it...Thank goodness I know I’m definitely not going there ever again!

I’m going to stay on BC proper as I like to do so until I hit definite fat melting stage and I’m not quite there yet. Another week or two and then I might add in Lite one or two times a week.

KOKO everyone! Remember the health benefits and focus on NSVs if the scales haven’t been kind - it’ll happen soon, rest assured!

amispeakingintongues · 23/01/2023 10:11

Well done everyone! I’ve lost about 3/4lb (counting in kgs so went from 81kg to 78.4kg this morning) which i’m mildy surprised at because it only dawned on me last Friday that a flat white contained milk - I’d consigned all coffee to its own category in my brain with no thought about other ingredients Blush - so since then I’ve been super strict and diligent at checking everything. Yesterday I went to Costa and had an espresso with a tiny jug cream Grin

BrendaLee · 23/01/2023 10:17

I'm down another 3 lbs, so that's 5 lbs over the last 2 weeks. I'm happy with that!
But so disappointed that blueberries are so carby! I was looking forward to adding some to my breakfast yoghurt...
