Jan '23 Low Carb Bootcamp - the (in)famous week 3 ...

BIWI · 23/01/2023 08:33

Morning all

Normally I'd link to the spreadsheet, but I'm having an issue with it this morning, as I can't scroll down the list of names and keep getting an error message saying my window isn't big enough to display it. Both on Safari and Chrome, which is odd - so I'm putting a call out for @FinallyHere to see if she can resolve it!

Anyway ...

PLEASE READ THIS POST CAREFULLY!

Welcome to week 3. This is the week where you have a choice. If you wish, you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means that you can now introduce fruit, nuts/seeds, chocolate and alcohol.

SOME.
IN MODERATION.
NOT AT EACH AND EVERY MEAL!

So with fruit, this is mainly berries - when the spreadsheet is sorted, check out the fruit counter on there, which will show you which fruits are best to introduce. Similarly nuts.

With chocolate, make this the highest cocoa content that you can - certainly 70% should be a minimum - and restrict yourself to a couple of square, not a whole bar.

And as to alcohol - it's dry wines and clear spirits, with low calorie mixers or, even better, soda/sparkling water.

Remember we're still on Bootcamp - so be very careful how much of any of these you introduce.

However, week 3 (and 4 and sometimes even 5) is infamous as this is the point where you may see your weight loss slow, stop or even reverse

It's very, very, very common for this to happen, so if it happens to you, don't panic! It's not a stall. It's all about your body settling into this WOE, and what you'll see once we get through the low carb doldrums is your weight loss will continue, albeit at a slower rate of around 1-3lbs a week. (How much you lose will depend on how much you have left to lose).

Bearing this in mind, you may want to stay on strict Bootcamp. There's nothing wrong with this at all - just make sure you are following Bootcamp rules, and that things haven't started to slip. In particular, make sure that you're sticking to rule 4 - i.e. that the majority of your carbs are coming from veg/salad. And don't forget the water!

Some Bootcampers like to do a hybrid, which means strict Bootcamp during the week, relaxing into Bootcamp Light at the weekend. The choice is entirely yours.

@amispeakingintongues I love a tiny jug! Adore dinky things. DH is very pleased and relieved I’ve recognised that I can never, ever have a dolls house as I would just go completely OTT with it...

Eanair23 · 23/01/2023 10:48

I'm actually UP 4lbs. I'm putting it down to <ahem> lack of movement...
I've also had 2 hard training sessions this week, and my muscles have that slightly tired sore feeling - in a good way, but I think it means retained fluids.

I'm definitely KOKO because I feel so well on this WoE. Sleeping well, good energy, and I believe the fat loss is happening.

OldandTired66 · 23/01/2023 10:53

One pound off, bit disappointing but am going to stick with full BC for another few days. I don't trust myself yet. Still overall, I've lost more in two weeks than I did on my entire 8 weeks with SW last year so there's that. @TangledWebOfDeception love of tiny things reminded me of the time I ordered a classic white china gravy boat off amazon. When it arrived, it was about the size of my thumb 😂. Still makes me laugh. Focussing on the water this week in the hope that going to the loo won't continue to feel like giving birth 😬.
B: boiled egg
L: Sir fry veg with chicken thighs
D: Salmon, cheesy veg bake as in steamed veg tossed in butter then sprinkled (smothered) in grated cheese and finished under the grill.

BIWI · 23/01/2023 10:57

@OldandTired66

Only a pound?

This is what a pound of fat looks like.

Morning all, looks like there's quite mixed results this week. I'm down by a bit over a pound, nudging on the next 10kg mark on the scales. I'm sticking to strict after a (planned) alcohol transgression on Friday night. No nights out this week which is a blessed relief after 3 last week!

I think I'm going to try and cut down on dairy too. I'm not much of a meat eater - was pescatarian for 20 odd years - so do compensate with cheese, and having been adding a lot of cream so far.

OldandTired66 · 23/01/2023 10:59

Question for @biwi @FinallyHere . Is the Carb content grammes per 100 grams of fruit? I'm assuming it is.

TangledWebOfDeception · 23/01/2023 11:01

Just remembered that I’m in week 3 not 2 as I started early! So that’s likely to explain, at least in part, my lack of loss this time.

Lucienandjean · 23/01/2023 11:10

I'm really pleased with a loss of 1.5lbs this week, especially as I'm a long-term low-carber, and I know from experience that it's rare for me to lose more than a pound a week.

This week I'm going to focus on getting all the water in, because I've let it slip a bit. I'm staying on bootcamp (not moving to Lite) for one more week, I think.

Well done to everyone on their losses this week!

SamWales · 23/01/2023 11:11

I started at 166lbs and hit 159lbs today.
I am only 5ft tall so that is 11st 5lb and I am really really happy to be going in the right direction!
I think I am going to have to keep being strict for a while longer because as soon as i re introduce those things I know my will power will break sadly.

Well done everybody x

TangledWebOfDeception · 23/01/2023 11:14

@BIWI It’s quite striking when you see it like that, isn’t it. I always imagine all that fatty gunk squashing my organs and clogging up my bloodstream! One lb less of it is fantastic in health terms, and every lb lost adds up (or down) to an immense amount if you keep going, week in week out.

Hopeislost · 23/01/2023 11:15

Morning! @amispeakingintongues that is a great idea! I have unsweetened almond milk in my coffee at home but all the coffee shops seem to have sweetened almond milk! Having a black americano is so boring!

Congratulations to those that have lost and determination to those that haven't! I have stayed exactly the same! I am a bit bloated and have some DOMS from lifting weights over the weekend so will be KOKO and drinking all the water!

BIWI · 23/01/2023 11:20

@OldandTired66 yes, it's carbs per 100g

OldandTired66 · 23/01/2023 11:33

Thanks @BIWI 👍

UnfinishedBusiness · 23/01/2023 11:34

Morning all. 1lb up for me, but not too surprised. Felt unwell for the last few days, so minimal activity, and probably less of the flgv, and over done the cheese and cream. Feeling a bit better today, so will be back at it with proper meals, rather than nibbling on cheese like a mouse as couldn’t be bothered to prep/cook😳

Sending your boiler positive thoughts @Rayna37 this is not the weather to be on the blink.

@Skiphopbump well done on such great weight loss over the past few months.

@ditavonteesed i love our air fryer, we use it a lot. Celeriac chips come out great in it, but dauphinois is my favourite way to cook a celeriac.

@katesbushh hope the chest pain isn’t anything too serious. Good luck at the GPS getting it sorted.

L: creamy mushroom soup I made yesterday
D: ginger chicken with coconut spinach and tomatoes (from the budget keto kitchen book). Either with quick pickled cucumbers or roast curried cauli.

I won’t be adding any fruit yet, but have missed a few seeds on my salad, and might have a glass of dry white on Friday.

UnfinishedBusiness · 23/01/2023 11:37

Ohh, and I’ll also be making some chaffles so I can have a sandwich or egg mayo on one when I really fancy it. Haven’t had any the past two weeks, as I put a bit of almond flour in my batter.

QforCucumber · 23/01/2023 11:40

Morning all - 1.5 off this week which I'm over the moon with. Puts me at a total end target of 19lbs to lose - finally broken under the 20lb line.

@TangledWebOfDeception I love teenie tiny things too, and this adoration of them seems to have spread to DS(6) who is currently obsessed with a tiny squirrel he got in a lego set for Christmas, he keeps moving him around the house and showing him 'big things'

Ds2 (2) has finally started sleeping (ish) again, he was waking hourly for the last few weeks - now he goes down around 8ish and sleeps to between 12-2am and as long as I climb into bed with him will go back off solidly until 6:30/7, I'll take it, forgot what it's like having a toddler!

FinallyHere · 23/01/2023 11:47

@OldandTired66 Good question, I realise that I have always taken it as cards per 100g but dont absolutely know Maestra @BIWI will know :-)

Haha! I succumbed to a dolls house many years ago and was great fun but the eye-watering prices of figurines and furniture eventually made the hobby unsustainable… especially when I have a life sized house in need of renovation!!

@Hopeislost glad you like the tip - and yes v irritating that no coffee shops have unsweetened almond milk. We should write a petition

Linnet · 23/01/2023 12:16

Hi everyone, you’re all doing really well. I haven’t lost any weight this week, I’ve stayed the same, but I’m ok with that. I felt really bloated last week and as @BIWI pointed out I hadn’t eaten much veg. So, this week I have big plans to eat more veg and drink more water.
Today I slept in and missed breakfast time but I’m thinking of going back to intermittent fasting anyway so that’s ok. So today will be,

L- scrambled egg made with cream, bacon and avocado

D- the chicken & bacon with a creamy Cajun sauce that someone mentioned up thread, I’m sorry I forget who it was, I also forgot to screen shot it but i remember what it said so I’ll muddle it together.

I’m also planning to make the Thai green cauliflower soup that @stuntnun mentioned to take to work, so I’m looking forward to that.

TheMagicSword · 23/01/2023 12:19

2lbs off here which I’m happy with as I definitely struggled with water intake this week.

Scrambled eggs for breakfast. Vaguely fajita-y bowl for lunch (chicken, shallots, peppers, lettuce, salsa and sour cream). I have a vague recipe for chicken and artichoke bake tonight which I need to look at and see if I have what I need.

mimosa1 · 23/01/2023 12:21

@FinallyHere could I prevail upon you to update the SoF for me? I started at 84kg at the same time as everyone else, lost 2kg in week 1, starting week 2 at 82kg and lost 0.7kg this week, so starting week 3 at 81.3kg.

I'm on my phone and won't have access to a PC until tomorrow so I do appreciate it.

Congrats to everyone who has stuck with it and best wishes for everyone who is ill or boiler-less!

QforCucumber · 23/01/2023 12:46

I’m another @Linnet who’s struggled with the veg so today I’ve popped home on my lunch break (I take an hour and only work 2 miles from home) done some housework and am eating a mis match of
roast chicken leg made yesterday
bacon fried in butter
then into the bacon pan and handful each of mushrooms and kale, fry until all fat absorbed.

served with whole grain mustard mayonnaise- hopefully that’s enough veg for lunch 😀

NotDonna · 23/01/2023 12:49

I’m up 0.8lbs (so down 200g in the 2 weeks) which is not remotely surprising and truly deserves BIWI’s stick as I’ve gone massively off piste a few times. DDs flapjacks & carrot cake. Friends visiting this weekend and too many glasses of red. I’m annoyed with myself.
Plan this week is staying strict BC and absolutely no detours. Doing IF (16:8) again as struggle to have bfast anyway. Cutting back on the copious amounts of dairy and increasing water.
Is Bovril allowed? We don’t have any in but just fancy it!

katesbushh · 23/01/2023 13:17

@UnfinishedBusiness oooo what's a chaffle? That sounds like something i could get on aboard with.

This week I wasn't to try
Celeriac fries
Celeriac dauphinoise
Basically all the celeriac haha.

We have a curry night with friends so I'm cooking. Chicken madras, something milder and all the carby sides for then.

Mushroom madras and cauliflower rice for me. And I'm going to order some of those skinny beers so I can have one or two.

Back from the gp with antibiotics (infection) and a referral to cardiology 🙃
It's not related to my chest pain but I have a known arrhythmia and it seems to be playing up at the moment.
I've ordered some electrolytes as I read that a lack in them can increase palpitations. So we shall see.
