Welcome everyone! We have over 160 people signed up this time, so things are going to move quickly.

Here's the link to The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness which has been carefully and lovingly curated by the very lovely @FinallyHere

There are a few bits of admin that I need to post before we get going. The first of which is the usual disclaimer:

I am not a medic, a scientist, a dietician or a nutritionist. Everything that I post here is based on my reading and my own experiences of low carbing gained over the last 20 years. You follow the guidance here at your own risk - although I very much hope that there are no risks!

Very importantly, though, if you are on any kind of long-term medication, please talk to your GP/nurse about low carbing. This is especially important if you're on drugs for hypertension, cholesterol and/or diabetes, as a low carb diet should have a positive impact on all of those conditions, which would mean that your dosage may need to be decreased, if not removed altogether.

The second is about etiquette:

Please, please, please read all the posts on the thread before you make your own post. These threads work so much better when we're all here interacting with each other, as that means we can offer help and support when it's needed. Don't just jump on the thread to plop down your meals for the day, your weight that day and then just fuck off. That doesn't help anyone.

More than anything else, it's incredibly irritating when someone posts a question which has already been answered early in the thread. I, and lots of other Bootcampers, spend a considerable amount of time responding to people's questions and concerns, and it's pretty insulting when it's obvious that these haven't been read.

(Oh, and it's very obvious if you haven't read the thread, so take that as a warning Wink)

I love curried cauliflower. I usually melt some butt, add curry powder to that then spread it all over some cauliflower florets and bake in the oven. Lovely.

Tomorrow I'm going to make cauliflower kedgeree (sp?) For dinner I cant wait.

First day has gone well although I can feel my stomach rumbling and the need to snack even though I KNOW I'm full from dinner and all the water I've drank, so it's just habit/carby binge cycle that I wont give in to!

Stuck to today's meal plan and drank 3ltrs of water which was totally doable, also glad that I drank most of it earlier in the day as hoping it wont keep me up all night 😄

Brassbumblebee · 09/01/2023 19:16

*butter ffs 😅

DryWhiteagainW · 09/01/2023 19:17

<waves to Stokey >
Food today:
b- smoked salmon omelette ( I made it last night and ate it cold at work, some people think this is weird, works for me)
L- chicken salad
D- chicken breast stuffed with Boursin and a halved cherry tomato wrapped in Serrano ham with green beans and spinach.

think this is all allowed. Seems to good to be true .

the herbal teas are working well and for work I’ve got a really big travel cup that holds approx 400ml so I reckon if I drink 4 of those at work and add an extra pint at home I’ve got my 2ltrs. Have to go to the loo a lot though!!!!!

i love cheese more than anything else but just can’t get my head around the fact that we can have it.

I’m going to try to add my weight later (technophobe) …….I’m short so a few extra pounds means my clothes feel tight.

lbnblbnb · 09/01/2023 19:27

@Backstreets
Feel like I'm showing up at the AA meeting with a lampshade on my head, hugging a traffic cone. Time for a massive glass of water and a fried egg
Loved this!

Today has gone well - apart from forgetting to eat my breakfast, but not really hungry (have been LCing for a few days now) and only had a brief thought of going to the cafe at work. Enjoyed my lunch. Good dinner.

Possibly the best bit of today was going shopping: my trolley contained cream, ff Greek yog, crème fraiche, tofu, frozen spinach. I did wonder if someone would glance in my trolley and say 'Ah, you must be doing the LC Bootcamp too'.

Spreadsheet on the app on my phone - if you turn your phone sideways, you can then see the names easily and scroll up and down to find your own row.

I see Dr Mark Porter has loaded an article on The Times website about low carbing and reversing or preventing T2 diabetes. I don’t know how to share this. Maybe someone else can.

lbnblbnb · 09/01/2023 19:50

The Times Article is here:

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/can-you-cure-type-2-diabetes-with-diet-jb7xmr3t6

But it is behind a paywall so unless you subscribe you can't see more than the first few lines.

Baystard · 09/01/2023 19:50

@Nugg you'll probably find that within a few weeks lots of things will start tasting sweet and you'll not want as much sweetener.

@FinallyHere sounds exciting, good luck Smile

@CapybaraFightClub thank you, it didn’t occur to me to try Amazon, brilliant!!

That soup recipe looks good @StuntNun , I'll add green curry paste to the shopping list.

Dolphinnoises · 09/01/2023 19:52

Hello everyone - day one completed. I've lurked before rather than chatting, but I think it's properly joining in which will stop me caving. Cooking low carb can be difficult as I work full time in a country with very little convenience food - pretty much everything is from scratch or value quality. Having said that, today I had:
Breakfast - two boiled eggs
Lunch - cauliflower cheese, broccoli and spinach leftovers
Tea - chicken, chorizo and leeks in creme fraiche with carrots.

Feeling very full. I started dialling down the carbs last week, as last time I went cold turkey and felt a bit rough.

Pleaseandthankyou · 09/01/2023 19:59

Thanks @lbnblbnb some people seem to have a share token but I have no idea how to get one.

CapybaraFightClub · 09/01/2023 20:07

@lbnblbnb if you put archive.ph into your browser, then copy and past the article link into the search bar on article.ph, you can read the full article without a subscription.

I am a previous bootcamper and lost a lot of weight that way previously but am crap at maintaining. After some awful life changes and depression I dumped a load back on again by going carb mad and I really regret it. I really need to keep bootcamping once I've reached a happy weight to keep me focussed. I've been low carbing since last Tues and really miss chocolate and Coke zero, but I know it's worth it to break the sweetness addiction.

Oooooo I've never had roasted sprouts!

Also might get ordering the buttermint tea!! I struggle to drink water so Peppermint tea and sparkling water really make a big difference to get my levels up.

AllTheBlackCoffee · 09/01/2023 20:39

First official day done, food on point, water drunk and even managed a short run of sorts at lunchtime. Feeling full of energy too so hoping that means fat burning is well underway.

Facing my first challenge tomorrow. I'm out for lunch with friends and despite me pushing towards some more LC friendly options we're going to a pizza restaurant 😱I've scouted the menu tho and they have a nice chicken and Parma ham salad so I'll be using every ounce of willpower to order that. Pepperoni pizza is one of my all time faves so will be tough but I'm feeling strong and determined!

@CapybaraFightClub
Thanks for the tip about archive.ph, very useful!

For the sprout lovers (!) I had this at a restaurant in America, it was absolutely delicious.

This Brussels sprout salad from the same place:

MuthaHubbard · 09/01/2023 21:22

LOVE a sprout so happy to see all sprout related content.
Day 1 done for me - ended up with an unplanned lunch due to work meeting going over so grabbed what I could which was some roasted chicken and a boiled egg. Tea was steak with mange tout and broccoli all fried in butter and a sprinkle of parmesan.
All the water and all the toilet trips but know that will even off.
Early night as spin class in the morning.
Actually feel super motivated for the first time in an age.

FinallyHere · 09/01/2023 21:33

Thank you lovely boot-campers for the encouragement, really enjoyed the burlesque class. Planning on going back next week, too 😀

mimosa1 · 09/01/2023 21:40

Found you and just caught up with the thread. We're a chatty lot :-)

I'm heavier than I've ever been (including pregnancy) so it's definitely something I need to take care of. I'm feeling determined. None of my clothes fit, for one thing.

DH is being lovely and supportive. He's LC'd in the past, and though he's not doing it now, he knows what's good to eat on this woe. I walked in for dinner after a horrendous commute in the cold, and he'd surprised me with roasted aubergine and anchovies with lashings of olive oil, garlic and coriander. It sounds vile, but it's absolutely delish, and I find the strong taste really stops the sweet cravings. I do stink though... Wink

To the PO who broke her collar bone, poor you! Wishing you better (and well down for sticking to this under the circumstances).

adviceatthislatestage · 09/01/2023 21:52

Thought I'd done well today with

Breakfast - cup of tea
Lunch- chicken bacon spinach salad
Dinner - Thai chicken soup

Snack- two cubes of cheddar cheese

Plus 2l water

However, soup had coconut milk in it and have just read upthread that coconut milk is not low carb. Oops.

Will try better tomorrow

I don't think that's enough food!

CarbyLite · 09/01/2023 21:55

Tomorrow I want to have cod for dinner. Can anyone help me with how to make a creamy chorizo sauce with double cream and other stuff it needs?

Janieread · 09/01/2023 21:59

I made pasta with cherry tomatoes, garlic, basil and pancetta for dh and the dds

I roasted some broccoli in the oven, then put a large spoonful of the pasta sauce over and then grated cheese then back in the oven - was delicious!
Had a couple of spoons of
greek yogurt.
First day done!

Fourfrosties · 09/01/2023 22:01

@FinallyHere woohoo, glad you had a fab time!

@Nugg Another one struggling without the sweetener over here too. I usually have a couple to make coffee tolerable, so I can enjoy the caffeine benefits! Having to reduce the amount of milk too, and swapped to herbal tea instead of 2nd cup. Let's hope our taste buds adjust soon!

@BIWI or others, are there any BC friendly sore throat remedies? Avoiding throat sweets as imagine they are mainly sugar, but in a world of pain so would love something to help if possible😫

Rayna37 · 09/01/2023 22:07

I'd completely forgotten cauliflower kedgeree, not made that for months, so thanks for the reminder of that, I love it!

Grabbed a service station snack of prawns with Marie Rose dip (M&S) mid afternoon then just a quick shallot and Cheshire cheese omelette tonight. Done ok for water considering the driving so good first day!

Also had a yellow sticker bonanza at Sainsbury's, must be a good day for it, so loads of meat ready for the coming weeks.

Will weigh in the morning and add my starting weight, now I'm home.
