Jan 2023 Low Carb Bootcamp - Week 1!

BIWI · 08/01/2023 22:20

Welcome everyone! We have over 160 people signed up this time, so things are going to move quickly.

Here's the link to The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness which has been carefully and lovingly curated by the very lovely @FinallyHere

There are a few bits of admin that I need to post before we get going. The first of which is the usual disclaimer:

I am not a medic, a scientist, a dietician or a nutritionist. Everything that I post here is based on my reading and my own experiences of low carbing gained over the last 20 years. You follow the guidance here at your own risk - although I very much hope that there are no risks!

Very importantly, though, if you are on any kind of long-term medication, please talk to your GP/nurse about low carbing. This is especially important if you're on drugs for hypertension, cholesterol and/or diabetes, as a low carb diet should have a positive impact on all of those conditions, which would mean that your dosage may need to be decreased, if not removed altogether.

The second is about etiquette:

Please, please, please read all the posts on the thread before you make your own post. These threads work so much better when we're all here interacting with each other, as that means we can offer help and support when it's needed. Don't just jump on the thread to plop down your meals for the day, your weight that day and then just fuck off. That doesn't help anyone.

More than anything else, it's incredibly irritating when someone posts a question which has already been answered early in the thread. I, and lots of other Bootcampers, spend a considerable amount of time responding to people's questions and concerns, and it's pretty insulting when it's obvious that these haven't been read.

(Oh, and it's very obvious if you haven't read the thread, so take that as a warning Wink)

After a lovely meal , I am craving something sweet , and as if reading my
mind my dp asked ‘ would you like a wagon wheel ? ‘
I said no , but omg it’s killing me !

send me strength fellow bootcampers

(ps he bought them today, it was previously a biscuit free zone

Mercedesbenz2022 · 10/01/2023 18:17

Actually my resolve is really strong, so I won’t break and especially now I have called on you all

earlyraisin · 10/01/2023 18:30

Get as far away from the biscuit as you can in the house and do something distracting there, like brushing teeth, practising deep breathing, or yodelling. Don't give in! I needed this advice too today mid afternoon.

lbnblbnb · 10/01/2023 18:42

@venusandmars it was me that posted the Brussels restaurant recipe - thanks for pointing out the info about cashews. In the restaurant it was a type of almond - Marcona? - so I am sure you could substitute whatever nuts were most appropriate.

Before @BIWI 's big stick comes for me, I am vegetarian so am having a very few nuts even though it is BC Lite.

lbnblbnb · 10/01/2023 18:44

@Mercedesbenz2022 sending you strength - do something else to avoid thoughts of you know what? Eyes on the prize.

Nugg · 10/01/2023 18:49

Another good day. Managed to get loads more water in simply by using a big sports bottle! Had 800ml before 645am just cos I was in the gym!

However tomorrow night I'm going here

www.pubanddining.co.uk/farmhouse-new-waltham/food-and-drink

and it looks absolutely crap for LC unless I have steak and extra mushrooms and tomatoes! Even the salad is quinoa 🤯

MaryDoll84 · 10/01/2023 18:52

@BIWI Ah yes, I see what you mean. I'm not that keen on soya yogurt anyway-I was just looking for something to add to full fat Greek yogurt coz the carbs in that quickly add up and I like a decent portion if I'm having it for breakfast.
I'll stick to the tasty, creamy stuff.

lbnblbnb · 10/01/2023 18:54

@Nugg if you asked for a starter as a main, would that give you more choice?

I see what you mean though - even the olives come with bread!

QforCucumber · 10/01/2023 18:57

I slipped and had a biscuit without even realising, I literally ate it and then thought wtf ?! Absolute habit and it’s mortifying.

but that’s one small blip and I’m even more determined now! When they get offered round in the office tomorrow I will be armed with babybel!

Nugg · 10/01/2023 18:57

@lbnblbnb only if I liked prawns which sadly I don't. I may eat before I go. Main point is to see my friends for one of their bdays....

MuthaHubbard · 10/01/2023 19:00

Another good day here - started with spin this morning - was doing pay as you go at gym but decided to sign up properly this morning so a bit more committed.
HBE x 2 for breakfast - still getting used to having breakfast. I do like yoghurt & berries so got that to look forward to after week 2.
Airfryer salmon with green beans for lunch and chicken stir fry for tea (no noodles for me so basically just chicken and veg with a dash of soy sauce).
Dug out my massive 2.5l water bottle which has helped massively today.

ZiggZagg · 10/01/2023 19:13

Evening campers!

Hope everyone is feeling ok after day 2!

I'm feeling so tired (from work) so will be having an early night Smile

Tuna salad with mayo for lunch which was so tasty!

Torn what to have for dinner, feeling peckish but not wanting to cook Confused May just have some Greek yogurt with cinnamon and roll into bed!

WATER WATER WATER!

Dolphinnoises · 10/01/2023 19:27

Evening! Today I had Greek yoghurt for breakfast, chicken breast wrapped in chorizo, half an avocado and cucumber for lunch and mushroom and cheese omelette with salad for dinner. I love how I’m not constantly craving snacks but I am missing fruit and muesli!

Stokey · 10/01/2023 19:30

@DryWhiteagainW hello lovely! We'll soon be slim enough to slip into our fave clothes again!

Baystard · 10/01/2023 19:48

I'm on my own tomorrow evening and can't decide what to have for dinner.

My new Levis arrived today. In last BC I managed to get comfortably into a pair of jeans that were previously far too small to wear. For this BC I bought the same jeans in a smaller size and that's my goal. If I wriggle and breath in a bit they do fasten, but they're too tight to wear properly. Feels like an achievable but exciting goal. I'll do this rather than weighing as I can get a bit obsessed with a number and in the past it's been my downfall. I'd hit a stall on the scales for too long I'd get downhearted and stop.

TigerYiger · 10/01/2023 19:50

About evening cravings and Greek yogurt... I make my own kefir and save my daily glass for this time of day to satisfy / control any end of day weaknesses. Because it takes a day to brew it's all gone and the ritual of making tomorrow's is my closure. It doesn't kick me out of ketosis but really satisfies the need for something not protein or veg.

Can't keep Greek yoghurt sort in the fridge as I go dysfunctional around it. Cream has recently got out of hand too.

Day two of no cream! Big personal achievement and goal keeping- deffo thanks to the good chat and busyness of this thread throughout the day. Really appreciate it!!

So early night for me, I've joined a yoga meditation online thing to top the day off with good thoughts and a couple of oms Grin

TigerYiger · 10/01/2023 19:53

@QforCucumber - so with you there! In the past I'd have a teaspoon of something sweet in my chops and only then see the jar in my hand a deep down habits. Good luck, it's certainly possible to beat Star

SnailonaWhale · 10/01/2023 19:54

Thanks to those that suggested roasted sprouts! Just had some with a steak and cabbage fried in butter. Delicious.

That was tea. Had a chicken tikka salad for lunch, Greek yoghurt for breakfast and a babybel as a snack.

My favourite part of these threads is hearing what everyone had food wise - it's so helpful and gives me a lot more ideas.

FinallyHere · 10/01/2023 20:20

Love your way of tracking progress @Baystard via ever smaller sizes of jeans.

Isn't it amazing how wonderful fitting into a smaller size feels, while needing to size up is always painful.

Stokey · 10/01/2023 20:25

I'm a bit headachy this evening and am wondering if it's Keto flu. I was eating a lot of sugar and carbs over Christmas so wouldn't be surprised. Have ordered the electrolytes. I also wonder whether lunch was a bit light today. I was in the office and had to run an errand so grabbed the last salad in Pret which was their high protein one - bit of avo, smoked salmon & a boiled egg on spinach & edamame beans (these may not be ok). I'm going to try and be more organised tomorrow and then WFH rest of the week.

Breakfast - Greek yoghurt
Lunch - Pret salad
Snack - cheese
Dinner - prawns with creamy mushrooms, courgettes & cabbage

Baystard · 10/01/2023 20:47

@FinallyHere I love holding them up and automatically thinking "no chance!" and then actually finding that they nearly fit.

ZiggZagg · 10/01/2023 20:55

@Stokey Edamame beans are 6.5g per 100g and are on the orange list, so probably not with every meal, ok for one though, it does sound yummy!

I've had facon and eggs for dinner, it was all the energy I could muster!

ZiggZagg · 10/01/2023 20:56

Meant to post photo 🤣

Stokey · 10/01/2023 20:57

Thanks @ZiggZagg sorry I was too lazy to look myself!

AllTheBlackCoffee · 10/01/2023 21:20

Tried a great new to me product today, Iceland's multi green rice. It's a mix of broccoli, kale, courgette and seaweed and made a nice alternative to cauli rice with my chilli. Only 2g carbs too and all green veg.
