Week 8 - Pre-Christmas 22 Boot Camp: the last week!

prettybird · 05/12/2022 08:34

Can't believe that it's the last week already Xmas Shock! It's been a pleasure to run this Boot Camp with you lovely lot. Xmas Smile

@FinallyHere will be along shortly with the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness Xmas Smile

There have been some great losses already and there is still time for a few more before Christmas Xmas Grin. I for one have lost over a stone (although I started a week early) but ideally would like to lose another 6lb by Christmas Xmas Shock (challenging I know and I won't beat myself up if I don't achieve it: 3lb to get under 12 stone would do me Xmas Wink)

This thread will keep going as an ongoing chat and support thread until the next Boot Camp Xmas Smile

It's difficult when the foods we supposedly believe are treats are also the ones which do us the most damage. Sad

I'm suffering right now, because having to cater for 8 other people has meant I've abandoned my usual eating, in order to cater for all their needs/likes/dislikes, and have had far too many carbs. Some of which I have, to be honest, really enjoyed. But my body isn't liking it or thanking me, and my IBS has flared up rampantly.

So it's all about changing your mindset @debka, and acknowledging that higher carb foods have a detrimental effect on us - whether that be weight gain or (possibly and) other ailments/conditions.

Most of the year I'm quite happy to accept that I won't eat bread or pasta or rice or pastry or low cocoa-content chocolate. I've become accustomed to it now, and no longer feel hard done-by if I don't have them. But there's something about Christmas that throws that all out the window! Had we not had these guests for a fortnight, I wouldn't eaten half of the stuff that I have - but I also know that part of my brain is using them being here as an excuse. You'd think I'd know better by now!

So when it comes to maintenance, you need to work out - for you - what you can/can't accommodate in your daily diet.

I'm also interested, though, that you say you're finding it hard to eat enough on this diet, and I'm wondering what you are eating, and why that might be?

debka · 09/12/2022 17:02

Thanks everyone for the wise words about maintenance. I think the discussion around what a treat is is very interesting and important. When I did keto before I was very much of that mindset and did continue for some time, but I slowly went back into old habits which lead to binging and sadness and seem almost inescapable.

@BIWI when I say I struggle to eat enough- I have a partner and 3 kids at home, plus a full time job and I'm studying as well. It's basically a situation where I don't think of myself. I'm too busy making sure everyone else is fed and happy and I just run out of energy when it comes to food for myself. I end up eating eggs, yoghurt and green veg and meat and when I get bored of that I just don't bother eating at all, then I get sad!

I know, I know, I need to put myself first and invest in some creative and interesting meals- I need to have a look at the recipe threads and just get on with it!

BIWI · 09/12/2022 18:22

Why aren't you cooking the same meals for all of you though @debka? There's really no need to cook separately for yourself!

debka · 10/12/2022 07:48

@BIWI I do try. I tend to make things like a roast, I'll have lots of veg and no roast potatoes. Or make spag Bol and again, I'll have veg instead of spaghetti. My partner is very supportive and when he cooks will always do something keto friendly for me. I think I'm tired and a bit under the water and feeling sorry for myself.

prettybird · 10/12/2022 09:09

@debka - sorry you're feeling sad and stressed Flowers. @BIWI has given you some wise words. Self care is so important - I'm sure so many eating problems are down to not looking after ourselves and then getting brought down with the "Fuck-its" Sad

With hindsight (as I didn't do it consciously Xmas Wink), my most important challenge this Boot Camp was to suggest a daily act of self-care. Mine was to get to bed before midnight every night. I'm pleased to say that I've achieved it so well that it's now become a routine Halo, so I really need to find something else to be my "self care" challenge. I'll need to have a ponder Xmas Hmm

@ditavonteesed - lovely your kitch decorations (as long as I'm not insulting you by calling them that Xmas Wink).

We're getting our tree on Monday and will decorate on Tuesday night. Looking forward to it. Xmas Smile

Like @FinallyHere, I'm a long way from maintenance - although I like @ditavonteesed's strategy of maintaining at interim weights to adjust the set weight downwards.

In good news, I've broken through the 12 stone barrierSmile: was 11st 13.5lb this morning. Grin Only another 4lb to go by Christmas to get to under 11 st 10lb (ie 3 digits). That's achievable, right? Xmas Wink

In an NSV, I realised last night that my favourite belt, which I'd been struggling to do up even in the first hole, I was no longer struggling to do up Xmas Grin

Glad to read that you have smashed another barrier. Gratters @prettybird

NotDonna · 10/12/2022 09:44

Well done prettybird I’ve been 155lbs (exactly 11 stone for a week or so now) and like you, I want to get into the next stone down. I did nudge it the other day at 154.8lbs but only for a day. 155lbs seems quite firm. That’s fine. It’s a 10lb loss this boot camp. Bizarrely I’ve no nsv’s other than my boobs, which weren’t big before. Nothing is looser on my waist. But it’ll come. Given we are away Tuesday for 3 weeks in Oz im going to try to maintain that 155lbs. I’ll doubt I’ll be able to weigh (various Airbnb’s) but I’ll stick to this woe much as possible. They’ll be lots of eating out so I need to be realistic in that I may not know how carby some dishes are but I’ll avoid obvious ones.
It’s our road’s Xmas party tonight. We all (about 50 of us) go to one house for starters (canapés, finger foods & drinks), then divide up into a number of houses for main, then all meet up again for desserts. Last year the main was a lasagne, year before a chicken chasseur type dish. I’ve no idea what it’ll be this year but praying it’s something with separate carbs. There’s normally wine or fruit juice. So I’m a bit worried although I could take a bottle of San pelligrono to drink at starters then ask for water at the main. I’m thinking of not going to the pudding house as there’ll be too much temptation.

Backstreets · 10/12/2022 15:50

Well done @prettybird !

I've been to two Christmas parties since I posted last and fit into a nice dress (which still fit by the end of the night!), so I'm chuffed.

I've been quite broke this December saving up for things, so I haven't spent as much on food as I should - especially recently, but I hope January will be better for this and I'd really like to experiment with that fathead stuff and the weird flours. I do really feel well doing this WoE, even if I'm not sure I need to lose all that much more.

NotDonna · 10/12/2022 16:41

@backstreets I’ve not tried the flours either. What is ‘fathead stuff’ please?

Backstreets · 10/12/2022 17:14

@NotDonna it's a dough recipe made of mozzarella cheese and almond flour, mainly used to make pizza crust, but I've seen some other experimental recipes around using it, too!

FinallyHere · 10/12/2022 20:08

We tried the fathead pizza

https://www.dietdoctor.com/recipes/fat-head-pizza

Delicious and very, very filling, unlike 'bread dough' pizza where I could eat slice after slice, fathead two slices were more than enough. We had a lot left over first time round.

FinallyHere · 10/12/2022 20:15

I've had SLC pizza in the freezer for ages now, not got around to even trying it yet. I'm guessing if it were all that great, there would be more mention of it on here

https://seriouslylowcarb.com/products/pepperoni-pizza-x3-multipack?pos=1&sid=1dbb66eac&_ss=r

Having checked the nutrition profile, I notice it's 5.1g carbs / 100g so not really on plan for bootcamp.

Apologies having typed this and done the links and everything, I'll post anyway. Please be aware this isn't really bootcamp compliant

Ducks as tbd big stick approaches.

ditavonteesed · 11/12/2022 07:17

@FinallyHere the reason I haven't tried the seriously low carb pizza is the price 😳 I would imagine it's lovely all there stuff is.
2 more nights out under the belt. 2lb up this morning but I am so bloated.

Ran 8k on the treadmill on Friday, need to go to decathalon today and buy some stuff to run outdoors. I am actually feeling like I might be able to achieve this half marathon.

debka · 11/12/2022 07:51

@ditavonteesed you absolutely can ruin it! My sister really got the running bug and will happily run a half marathon on her day off. She did a virtual marathon last year and is now training for Brighton. I remember when she started out running with couch to 5k and HATED it!

I keep meaning to get back into running- I've done a few 10ks but not for a good year or 2. I like my gym classes more now, but I do look at the runners out and about and miss it. Not enough to actually go out in the cold though, obviously!

I love a fat head pizza- I think I will make one today to have in the fridge for lunches.

Went out last night and had a burger without the bun and coleslaw on the side, I often go for this option and really enjoy it- the waiting staff don't turn a hair, I think low carb is definitely more mainstream now.

debka · 11/12/2022 07:51

@ditavonteesed RUN it not ruin it 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

ditavonteesed · 11/12/2022 07:56

@debka I don't know ruin it sounds more realistic 😂 dh just came down and opened the curtains down we have snow!!!! Yay Christmas 🎄

NotDonna · 11/12/2022 15:49

I’m going to give the fathead pizza a go when we get back. Sounds like a good lunch option and something the whole family would eat. I’ve never been a runner and really admire those that do AND ENJOY IT! I’ve signed up for a Pilates class in the new year but need to do something else too as it’s getting a bit cold and icy for tennis. Albeit when it is warmer I should play more often.
Our road’s Xmas party was good last night but I’m annoyed with myself as I drank too much red wine and went to the dessert house. And stupidly (not mindfully at all) ate some pavlova! Makes no sense when I avoided all the carby canapés and mash etc for the main. I’ve not dared weigh this morning. But I’ll no doubt see the damage tomorrow. Im going to go tea total again, I’m not very good at just having a couple of glasses.

BIWI · 11/12/2022 18:12

I've tried very hard to get into running. I've done C25K three times, and last year did the 'run 60 miles in September' challenge for Cancer Research. But I really don't enjoy it.

Backstreets · 11/12/2022 18:17

Can't stand running either but I'm taking it up when the snow clears as I got convinced to sign up for a marathon in May back in September. Seemed ages away then and I was taken in by the idea of the pint after :|

NotDonna · 12/12/2022 06:43

Morning campers! How are we all doing this snowy morning. Hope we had toasty weekends. We’ve a decent sprinkling of snow here. A half pound loss for me this morning which is not deserved given the antics of Saturday night. I’m now 11st 0.4lbs so very very close to the next stone bracket. We fly to Oz tomorrow but I’m KOKO with mindful treats. I’m going tea total and will avoid desserts (my main problem would be desserts, I’m not a rice, pasta bread girl anyway).

StuntNun · 12/12/2022 06:58

I've tried the Seriously Low Carb Pizzas. They are perfect for if you want to keep them in the freezer for a low key easy dinner, especially if you have kids that will want frozen pizza and you can cook it alongside theirs. However, they are very poor value for money and they aren't particularly nice. If you're a huge pizza fan then I suggest buying the bases and making your own topping.
