Just getting the opening of the thread started, as there's a lot I want to post before we get into tomorrow! Grin

Firstly, here's the all-important disclaimer:

I'm not a medic. I'm not a scientist, nutritionist or dietician. Everything that I write here is based on the reading I've done over the last 15 or so years. You sign up and take part in Bootcamp at your own risk - although I fervently hope there are no risks!

Please note, if you're taking any long-term medication, especially for hypertension or diabetes or high cholesterol, you should consult your GP; low carbing (for most people) will bring high blood pressure and cholesterol levels down, and will help regulate your blood sugar levels - so the dosage of your medication may need to be reviewed, if not reduced

A note about weighing

Each Monday I'll re-post the spreadsheet for you to add your weight. Weight is the most conventional way that we monitor progress, but it isn't the only way, and actually isn't always the most accurate way. It's not unknown for people to see no change on the scales, yet to know that they've lost weight as their clothes are fitting better.

You don't have to weigh (and nor do you need to be on the spreadsheet), but it is always helpful to know how you're progressing, as this helps to keep you focused. There are two other important ways to do this:

1 - take your measurements. Hips, waist and bust, as well as upper thigh and upper arms.

2 - find an article of clothing that currently just a little too tight - a pair of jeans, or a blouse - and try them on each week. This is the most tangible way to see how things are working for you.

You can do these as well as weighing of course!

............................................................................................................

Also, before we really get going, a plea for good thread etiquette!

The threads will move very quickly (especially in the first couple of weeks). But please, please, please read everything that's been posted. Use the bookmark facility so that you don't lose your place. Don't just jump on the thread to post your own stuff without bothering to read what others have posted

It is very wearing when we have to keep answering the same questions, because posters haven't bothered to read what's gone before!

I'm checking in with a 1.1kg loss this week, yahoo, very pleased and I'm on target for my goal (holiday).

Well done @Ulelia, that's brilliant and your shakshuka sounds lovely!

I can't remember who was struggling with not buying sparkling water. Have you considered buying a soda stream?

Lougle · 09/05/2022 06:45

I'm 1.9kg (4.2lbs) down this week. It's a good start.

I'm going to really have to make sure I drink my water if I'm not adding the tabs. I don't know what it is about water I find so hard. It's filtered, so not straight out the tap.

comfortablyfrumpy · 09/05/2022 07:15

I'll down this week for me. I'm really on week 3, did 7lb in 1st 2 weeks so happy ish.
Teaching today so water will be a challenge... 2.5 hrs at a time without any chance of loo break. :)

Rshard · 09/05/2022 07:18

Well done for all the losses! 4.5lbs down here so really happy and ready for week 2.

Good luck to those still to weigh in 🤞

Baystard · 09/05/2022 07:25

Fab losses everyone, well done!

My major victory today is more of a NSV - today I weigh around 1lb less than I did at the end of January bootcamp. I did put on a little bit afterwards but it was literally a few pounds and i lost it again v quickly when I started prep for this BC. Having been a bit of a yo-yo throughout my adult years that's a big step forward for me.

5lb down this week a combo of a big whoosh where I lost the water weight I was carrying after last weekends marathon landscaping work in the garden, which left me sore all over and, I'm sure, a bit of fat.

ditavonteesed · 09/05/2022 07:35

Great losses, I'm 2.2lb down which I'm very happy with as I'm going to the gym lots which ironically slows my weight loss down, however down lots on measurements.

A question for those with the renpho scales do you think they actually measure body fat? Mine just seems to go up and down exactly with the weight, wondering if they are just faulty and I should get another set or whether that is actually all they do.

meloncolic · 09/05/2022 07:59

3.6 off! Really pleased.

pinknsparkly · 09/05/2022 08:01

Morning all! I had a 0.5kg (1.1lb) loss this week which I'm pleased with as I started a day late and haven't been great on the water front😎

To the poster struggling to drunk water without the hi5 tablets... I weaned myself off sugar free squash by making it gradually more and more dilute. Can you break a tablet in half and make two bottles out of it? Or get 1 litre from a tablet instead of 750ml?

We ate out twice yesterday, for breakfast I had a full cooked late breakfast and wasn't even jealous of my toddlers pancakes. Then a burger for dinner loaded with avocado and salad, with my husband eating the bun. My toddler didn't eat any of her quesadilla so I also had the melty cheesy filling while she just ate the chips and strawberry milk! I do intermittent fasting so only two meals a day for me.

TheOnlyMrsW · 09/05/2022 08:16

Only down 1lb which I'm a tiny bit disappointed with but struggled with water over the weekend so I know to be mindful of that, although I have lost an inch off my waist and 2 off my hips.........really want to make a good start to BC as we've got festivals in week 6 and the final weekend and they will be difficult to deal with!!!
@heliosfountain it was me with the sparkling water, I do want a sodastream but in a tiny rented kitchen at the moment so no space.......once our house purchase goes through in the summer it's on the list of things to get asap.
Greek yoghurt for breakfast and a huge cup of peppermint tea (it's 500ml, I measured!!!), koko everyone!

glamourousindierockandroll · 09/05/2022 08:24

Only a pound off here, but I have had two days showing a 2-3lb loss so I'm trying not to be too disheartened. Like others, I've also returned to exercising (have done 2 spin classes over the weekend) so wondering if that is a factor too.

KOKO

Finmory · 09/05/2022 08:39

Morning all, good luck with the week 1 weigh-in.

I had a very difficult week with carb flu and constant headaches, seems to be lifting now thankfully. Only lost 2 lbs this week but I've done no exercise due to feeling awful, and definitely didn't hit my targets with water - that will be my focus this week.

I lost some inches though which is a nice surprise!

bella1426 · 09/05/2022 08:53

Morning everyone, well done on your losses! 3.8lb off for me which I'm delighted about as I do not lose easily! A lot of water weight I'm sure but hey I'll take it. Best part is all the delicious satisfying food I've been eating, and no bloody tracking! Hasn't felt like a 'diet' at all 🤗 insomnia a bit of a problem, which I believe is not uncommon when switching to this WoE, anyone else experiencing it? I've been doing the electrolytes, water, fats right I think...not sure if there is anything else I can change? Maybe I just need to weather it out which is not too bad, despite the crap sleep I'm managing the days ok as normally tirendness has me in a horrible cycle of carb/sugar fuelling and crashes and the steady state energy from LCHF is carrying me through
Onto week two 💪

bella1426 · 09/05/2022 08:56

On the weighing topic...I weigh daily but have set up a spreadsheet 🤓 to track and take a weekly average. It's the downward trend in weekly averages that is the number I pay closest attention to rather than give too much power to one moment in a week which could have other factors at play (digestion, water, time of the month etc)

Livelongandprosper · 09/05/2022 08:58

1.2 lbs off, I'm happy with that. The carb flu was hard to deal with while I was at work because I found it hard to concentrate. This week will be better Smile

BIWI · 09/05/2022 08:58

Apologies for the lateness, but here's this week's chat thread

I'm 2lb down after a week 😃

I've lost an inch on my measurements as well. It's a good start 😊

@Lougle Thank you, that really helped, as I found out there is a Jan2021 tab next to May 2022 but the weight on my name is completely different. I have the rest saved somewhere on the phone, need to figure out where (along with 100 other stuff that I am looking for after the move lol)

BIWI · 09/05/2022 11:20

Please RTFT @Newlease! We're on the week 2 chat thread now. Link above
