Week 9 - very much hoping this is our last fortnight!

I really, really hope that this will be our last two weeks of all the various restrictions of lockdown. Even though it's looking unlikely

So for us, only two more weeks!

Here's the spreadsheet, as usual

Two more weeks left, so a good amount of time to still shed some unwanted pounds.

Possibly also a time to be specifically even more strict, given that it's the last two weeks?!

@WestIsBest21 no don’t name change! I get confused any way.

I got my name from when I used to travel home on the train going west and the sunsets were spectacular. Plus the local stadium has a ‘West Is Best’ stand

Week 9 - very much hoping this is our last fortnight!

Morning, just popping in to say hi and report half off. I won't be posting this week as far too much going on in real life that I can't talk about on a public forum.
Well done everyone and hope you all enjoyed the holidays.

Bestbees · 08/06/2021 07:06

@venusandmars those pictures are stunning. Seems you did a great job with the food.

Down 1.5lb overnight, nice to see the bloat reduce fast. Have a headache this morning so will go for some electrolyte drinks today and keep water high. Ended up with eating lots yesterday and had snacks but all on plan and I find that the best way for getting back into it.
Plan for today
L tomato and mozerella salad, Greek yog and rhurbarb
D pork chops in a creamy mushroom and leek sauce, green beans and braised cabbage
Will go for an evening swim which helps avoid snacking!

@ditavonteesed I hope your week goes ok

venusandmars · 08/06/2021 08:25

Looks like another nice day here (at last after all the cold weather in May!). I'm meeting a friend for lunch.

B - coffee without cream
L - thai restaurant so will have to avoid the worst of the carb / sugar culprits
D - green veg soup

BIWI · 08/06/2021 08:46

Hope you're OK @ditavonteesed - you know we're always here if we can help Flowers

I've been away visiting my mum who is a bit of a feeder so I'm feeling slightly podgier about the middle as a result. She tried to give me four pork escalopes for Sunday lunch! They were the tiny thin ones but four is still rather a lot. She also made six vegetables to go with them: potatoes, carrots, cauliflower rice, leeks, broccoli and mushrooms! So even though she's happy to cater to low carb it's just too much food. And there's never any space in the fridge for leftovers so it all has to be eaten at the mealtime. Still I got to see my mum for the first time in nearly a year so a little bit of overeating is a small price to pay.

ZiggZagg · 08/06/2021 13:34

Hello everyone (sneaks back in sheepishly) Grin

I've had a bit of a tough time, delayed grief over dad and DD has started to self harm which has completely floored me so have been reaching for all the carbs!

Now to add to my distress, I feel like a big fat piggy! Mental health is shit and just feel shit!

I'm trying my best to get back into the swing of things and have had a massive roast chicken with FLGV for dinner. Still have loads of chicken leftover so will have a chicken curry with cauliflower rice for tea.

I'm trying to be positive but if I'm honest, not too optimistic either!

pangolinfan · 08/06/2021 14:07

So sorry to see your post @ZiggZagg - I was wondering how you were doing. Self harming is a horrible additional thing to have to deal with at any time, never mind when you are grieving for your father. Do what you need to do: the low carb massive will be here to support you as you get back on it x

BestIsWest · 08/06/2021 14:34

@ZiggZagg so sorry, grief is an unpredictable thing. I lost my lovely dad suddenly last July and still haven’t processed it properly. I still think he’s popped out to get the papers to his lottery ticket and will be back shortly.
Sorry about your DD too.

Andi2020 · 08/06/2021 14:38

@ziggzagg and @ditavonteesed thinking on you both on your tough times
@stuntnun that's us mum we like to feed up our kids, my mum (rip) would never understand low carb always filled us up on potatoes.

prettybird · 08/06/2021 15:56

My mum would've loved this WoE - and as the main cook (and an excellent one at that), she'd have overcome my dad's ex farmer and ex doctor antipathy to the lack of carbs (or as he sees it: faddy eating Wink) Grin He probably wouldn't even have realised she was doing it Smile

Random789 · 08/06/2021 17:43

Sending you love, ZiggZagg as you go through your grief at the loss of your father, and try to deal with your DD's self harm. Flowers

ElasticFirecracker · 08/06/2021 18:21

@BIWI and anybody else with ideas.

I like making these Involtini from Nigella FEAST in the summer.

For the stuffing I'll omit the breadcrumbs and raisins, but wonder if there's something that would be a good substitution for raisins.

The recipe lists 2x 700g bottles of passata - this is way too much. I just use one generally and the Involtini just have a light covering of sauce and are not swimming in it.

@WestIsBest21 - welcome 👋

@ditavonteesed - sorry you’re having a tough week. Hope you’re ok.

@ZiggZagg - sounds like such a difficult time- grief comes in waves and can knock you sideways sometimes. Sorry your daughter is struggling at the moment - must be very hard to know she is self harming. Hope you can both get any support you need in real life - and post here too if it helps. Take care.

Like the look of the involtini recipe - not sure I get the raisins in it but at least they’re left out when low carbing!

Had good day today - lots of water, mushroom frittata & salad for lunch & chilli with spinach & broccoli for dinner. A few raspberries.

venusandmars · 08/06/2021 23:54

@ditavonteesed and @ZiggZagg so sorry you're having a turbulent time.

My dgs has broken his arm and is in hospital tonight so I took emergency food, toothbrush, phone charger etc to my dd. It's the same hospital as the one my that both my mum and dad were in and even though they died 7 and 8 years ago, there's something about those evening drives to the hospital that I will never forget. It could have been yesterday... Sad although more melancholy that actual sad

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 09/06/2021 07:57

Morning! Welcome to the new people, and several bunches of June ThanksThanks for @ZiggZagg.

Also, I've got some for @ditavonteesed & @venusandmars ThanksThanks

I'll have a look at that recipe in a bit @ElasticFirecracker & rack my brains. My eyes are too blurry this time in the morning!

I've not been terribly successful from a weight loss perspective this boot camp, but if hadn't been doing it I would almost certainly have gained weight. I'm 11 stone 8.8lbs (BMI 28.5ish), & my goal for the end of boot camp is to get to 11 stone seven. Seems very achievable & realistic!

Hope the sun is shining where you are ☀️

cheeseisthebest · 09/06/2021 09:09

Hugs for ziggzagg and dita.
After a terrible weekend I've been really focused, drunk all the water and 3lb down so back to 139lb. I would just like to be 133 by my birthday which is in 9 weeks. Feels achievable!

MrsKoala · 09/06/2021 10:34

Hi all. Sorry I've been absent. It's been a pretty shit week. H has lost his job. Not really sure what we are going to do in the short term till we can sell some stuff but we'll be okay. It's just a kick in the swingers and it means letting people down and things go that I had my heart set on. But we're healthy and have our house etc so I shan't complain. Going to have to really cut the food budget so it'll be a lot cheaper food for me - I hope I can stick to this woe though and not disappear back to the cheap white bread and past oblivion of the past.

Chunkymonkey123 · 09/06/2021 12:45

Really sorry to hear that @MrsKoala, I hope he finds something different soon.

I’m 4 pounds up after half term and my work trousers are tight! Back on it yesterday though but I’m having a little cheat here and there that needs to stop.

Did anyone watch the ‘what are we feeding our kids’ (sorry if I missed the chat while away). DH and I watched it last night and it’s really made me think about their diets. It basically confirms a lot of what is said in the ‘why we eat too much’ book. I feed us all the same LC dinner with added carbs for them but the rest of the day they do eat a lot of processed carb.
Anyone had success with changing their children’s diets? Mine are 4 and 2 and will eat peas, green beans and fruit but I do rely on sandwiches a lot and they refuse dinner and then eat processed yogurts instead.

ElasticFirecracker · 09/06/2021 13:03

@MrsKoala I'm so sorry to hear that.

Midlifemission · 09/06/2021 19:28

Evening all - I am so sorry to hear of all the real life issues affecting people @ZiggZagg so sorry grief is such a tough long road. @Venusandmars @ditavonteesed hope you are ok, and so sorry @MrsKoala DH and I have been through this too and it's truly awful !
💐 to all of you

I am enjoying being back on the straight and narrow and the scales have shown 2 of the holiday lbs gone so hopefully I can get back to my lower maintenance weight before the end of BC.

NSV today I wore an old summer dress I must have had approx 10 years but not worn for at least 5 . A lady on the school run stopped me and told me I look amazing ! I didn't start this WOE for the compliments but I must admit it does feel good !

@Chunkymonkey123 I didn't watch the programme but read some threads on here and really must take a look - my DC diet could really do with improvement.
I haven't yet managed to switch to LC meals that the whole family will eat so that's something I really need to think about longer term - currently we make them tea and then cook ours when they are in bed it's totally not sustainable as obviously as they get older we end up eating later and later ! My DS is quite fussy so it's going be a bit of a mission.

@WestIsBest21how are you getting on with getting to grips with the rules ?

MrsBertBibby · 09/06/2021 19:52

I'm so sorry Mrs Koala. I hope he gets something good soon.

Big hugs for you ZiggZagg.

I have managed to get out for an evening walk! Revolutionary stuff!

ZiggZagg · 09/06/2021 22:49

Sorry to hear that @MrsKoala, hopefully he will find something else soon! I'll have my fingers crossed for you!

Positives are DH surprised me with a hot tub so I have forgone my last couple of nights snacking for an hour boiling myself alive. Negatives are that I haven't been prepared and have eaten toast and biscuits.

Plan for tomorrow is chuck FLGV in the oven with sprinkles of chili and boiled eggs in the morning so I have that to snack on through the day rather than cake.

I haven't weighed myself because I'm already feeling low and it may push me over the cliff Wink I'm just going to concentrate on getting back fully on plan and judging by my clothes until next bootcamp.

I have drank all the water today!

Zofloramummy · 09/06/2021 23:07

Hi, I started low carb about a month ago and have lost half a stone. I’ve just been reading through the thread and I have to ask what is FLGV?

I have another stone and a half to lose, but I’ve been surprised at how easy this diet is to follow also I struggle with drinking the water.

ZiggZagg · 09/06/2021 23:08

@Zofloramummy it means fuck loads of green veg Grin
